• Kogi State is popularly known as the Confluence State because the confluence of River Niger and River Benue is at its capital, Lokoja, which is the first administrative capital of modern-day Nigeria.

• The state was created on the 27th of August 1991 from Kwara/Benue state. In 2005 an estimated 3,595,789 people live in kogi state.

• There are three main ethnic groups and languages in Kogi namely Igala, Ebira, and Okun (A Yoruba Group) with other minorities like Bassa, a small fraction of Nupe mainly in Lokoja, the Ogugu subgroup of the Igala, Gwari, Kakanda, Oworo people (A Yoruba Group),ogori magongo and the Eggan community under Lokoja Local Government.

• Kogi state is the only state in Nigeria which shares boundary with ten 10 other states. Adjacent States
Federal Capital Territory (Nigeria) – to the north
Nasarawa State – to the north east
Benue State – to the east
Enugu State – to the south east
Anambra State – to the south
Edo State – to the south west
Ondo State – to the west
Ekiti State – to the west
Kwara State – to the north west
Niger State – to the north

• Old buildings used by the Royal Niger Company when it had a royal charter over Nigeria.

• Tourist attractions in Kogi State include the colonial relics (such as Lord Lugard House)

• From Mount Patti in Lokoja one can see the confluence of River Niger and River Benue, also on the Mountain is Lord Lugard rest house

• Kogi State is also famous for “the Okene” cloth, woven with rich thread into exquisite styles of varying colours.

• The confluence of Rivers Niger and Benue is at Lokoja, Borgu Game Reserve.

• Important Festival: Ekuechi festival of the Ebirras.

• Kogi state is home to the (Federal University Lokoja), Kogi State University Ayingba, Federal Polytechnic Idah, Kogi State Polytechnic (Lokoja),Federal College of Education (Okene), College of Education (Ankpa), College of Agriculture Kabba, Kogi state college of education, technical (Kabba), federal university Lokoja and also the private Salem University. There are a college of nursing and midwifery in Obangede and School of health tech in Idah

• The NYSC Orientation Camp is at Asaya, Kabba-Bunu LGA (I served in Kogi State) Attached are some the pictures I took on Mount Patti, showing the confluence and Lugard Rest House.

Am wondering why Kogi State is trending these days... Should be awarded the Most under developed state in Nigeria... I pray next four years whosoever is the governor should work towards bringing development there cause the place is richly blessed with natural resources
