Nigerian own time for the churches is fast approaching. I can smell it.
Re: Pastor Chris Oyakhilome Faces JAIL In South Africa by manny4life(m): 2:57pm On Nov 26, 2015
Every church organization is subject to non-religious rules of the land. I don't see why he should be fighting this, I think we mistake custodianship with ownership. Pastor Oyakhilome should know he's the custodian and as such, he should comply with all the rules therein. The commission is not asking to diversify funds inappropriately, all they 're asking is to submit financial results. Heck in the U.S., churches must file paperwork with the IRS that classified than as a 501(c)(3) organization.

No doubt it is a spiritual organization, but the custodians of the principles of the organization are humans. Take this from an RCCG member, this shouldn't be an argument at all. In as long as the church organization is operating in the realm of the physical, they must follow the rules. I mean rules such as banking/finance rules, building safety and permit rules, noise emission rules, and the list is endless. We are the custodians of God's building, God will hold us accountable if we lapse in our duties.

The building structure is physical but the money in the account is spiritual?
Why do you guys like misquoting scripture? How does the scripture you just quoted relate to the issue at hand?

Bros you would have to bend 360 to proof that churches don't generate revenue when the reverse is obviously the case.

Check what constitutes an NGO.

There is nothing spiritual about church, it's the ritual practiced by people that has any spiritual significance.

Relax and stop eschewing IGNORANCE!

I am all for "war against corruption" be it from a religious body (Church, Mosque, e.t.c) but at the same time, l am all for fairness to EVERYONE.

1.) The Church is a "Charity organisation" and there are Laws governing the operation and filing of accounts of such Charities.
If the law says they are not to publish annual accounts, then there is nothing anyone can do.... except that law is changed

2.) Chris is the head of that Church... but he is also not the accountant!
In as much as l want to believe they all dip their hands into "God's Money"! grin
l also know that these "pimping, con-men" are not that stewpid as not to "insulate" themselves. So, the law needs to be smart in this regard.

3.) When you say "Hoodwinking", you probably are thinking the "Law" has an excuse for foolish people who willingly surrender their money to the Church?
NO!
As long as people are stewpid enough to part with their money (probably under the promise of going to heaven, which they know they dont even deserve ... "who is trying to hoodwink who here"?)... you cannot blame the love-vendor of a Pastor who collects the money!

Like most things with South Africans, they dont reason deeply and like to introduce "Bigotry" into their actions.
What they need to do is to educate their people to STOP being gullible and parting with their money.

And Pastor Chris is right (though l am no fan of his in anyway), if the enabling laws/Constitution does not empower this woman to ask the Church to bring their Accounts, trying to intimidate them would not work.
They have a right to seek redress in Court, where a competent JUDGE would examine the Constitution and determine whether she is going beyond her Powers or not.

No one should be afraid of going to court or being taken to court, as long as you abide by the law.
Just my humble take

Rubbish! You seem to be the ones with shallow mind and very sensitive attitude to law and order.

1) When an entity registers a business/NGO etc in any country it is an act of:

a) Announcement of your existence to the
government,
b) A promise to play by the rules ( Legality)
c) Subjecting the entity to scrutiny by the gvtal agencies if there's any suspicion of illegality or non compliance

2) Why would a church that registered decides it is now not bound by the laws of the land? It would be easy to have just not registered and do as it wills then.

3) SA LAW only exempts NGO's from paying tax but not from laws of the land, scrutiny from any suspicion etc.
It is the duty of the entity to ensure at all times that it is accountable to the government by running a blemish free establishment, with no complaints from the communities and members.

4) Tax is not the only reason the govt would scrutinize ones books there many other reasons e.g. Revoking the right to operate, changing the status of your operations etc.

5) If nairelanders were reading first before commenting you would notice a lot of SA churches that were mentioned and complied with the status request.

6) If Chris is not happy with sharing his financial secrets then he could just deregister and operate where such are not needed.

get your facts right. When did pastor Chris hypnotize people? when did he ask people to eat grass, snakes and drink petrol??

tithes and offerings are given "freely", not by hypnotism or compulsion..

No blames to the SA govt. These churches register with the corporate affairs commission as business organisations. As such, the govt reserves the right to probe such churches or biz orgs.

I concur with you a bit, but if their activities are against the law they should be prosecuted. You can't because, the church is a 'Charity Organisation', not probe the means with which donations are made or the people who make the donations if the need arises.
You can't rule out the fact that some of these churches are masked agencies of Money Laundering. Some General Overseers conspire with politicians and corrupt business men in shipping illegal money out the country in the name of public donation.

There should be thorough investigations of financial activities of every church in Nigeria. Our politicians are staunch churchgoers with no evidence, ie, their attitude negates the teachings of most churches and that alone is enough to doubt the honesty of both the church and the politicians.
Haven't you wondered why they public office holders make outrageous donations in religious places but deny the masses their right to basic amenities?
Don't you think they are just appreciating the religious leaders for helping them launder public funds meant for infrastructural development? If you sent your son, under mutual agreement, to study engineering but you see him all the time reading 'Things Fall Apart', would you hesitate to ask questions?

You don't fight which fùcking church?

If the church constitutes public nuisance or disobeys the law, the law enforcement agencies pull it down.
The church is not the only public gathering body, it deserves no preferential treatment.
Moreover, Chris is not a church, he's just a coordinator who must abide by the law or face a lengthy jail term for hoodwinking the public and failing to declare how much he made from the fraud.

How dare you call My Man of God a fraud?
Don't involve in cheap disussions. Somethings are too high for you to talk about because you lack the knowledge or understanding of them, especially of spiritual things.

I'll continue by asking questions
1. Who do you give your tithes, offerings and first fruits to?
If your a christian and you understand the truth, your answer will be God almighty.
so why go disturb the man of God and not God? or is it because he's representing God here?
Don't let God fight you for touching His anointed.

2. Are the monies given to pastor Chris?
I bet you will say yes. But just to let you know, he doesn't even receive it, there are people who handles various departments where the monies are directed to. such monies meant for projects like taking care of the indigent hidden are dire ted there.
Those for sponsorship of Rhapsody Of Realities is dire ted there, etc.

3. Are the monies these people give already taxed?
Why would you ask for a tax from money's you've taxed before?

4. Are the money's used to build houses for Pastor Chris? How many personal jets does pastor Chris have? How many personal houses does he have?
Is the money helping and changing the lives of those that are less privileged? Sick? Lost? Broken hearted? Confused?

These guys are just threatened by the prosperity of the saints in Christ.
They haven't seen anything yet. We will continue to reign and dominate this earth till the return of Christ.
Gone re the days they use to refer to us (christians) as poor church rats.

We've come to know who we are.

They shouldn't think they can make money from the church by bringing up such threats.

Funny defence. The money is giving to God and not man. Then let the man that receives the money on behalf of God render account of the money on behalf of God too.

See if these monies are used appropriately, there ll not be any issue in showing the entire public how God's money is been spent.
