Unfortunately, history repeated itself, and the fax was one minute too late just like the late fax on the De Gea deal!! Looks like a trend...maybe they need better IT guys!

They cannot fail to act. Media is awash with the news. Everyone expects Madrid not to play second leg. If they didn't report, another group would do it. As a matter of facts, they have everything to gain by reporting. They get to scale to the next round without kicking a ball for another 90 mins.

Article 67 is very clear on the matter

The competition's regulations clearly state how Real Madrid will be punished for fielding an ineligible player, in this case, Chershev:

"Any club fielding a footballer who is ineligible or does not meet the regulatory requirements necessary to take part in a match, will forfeit said match, and the opponent will be declared the winner with a result of 3-0, unless they already won the game with a better score and the competition was to be decided on points, in which case the original score would stand. If it is a knockout competition the tie will be decided in the opponent's favour. If this isthe case, and there isstill a second leg to be played at the opponent's stadium, the guilty party will compensate the opposition to the sum of its average revenue over the past two cup campaigns".

Speaking to Canal Plus afterwards, Madrid's director of institutional relations, Emilio Butragueno, said: "Nobody informed us that Cheryshev was unable to play. I have spoken to the federation, but we will have to wait and see."

The news is unlikely to be good for Real - especially after Cadena SER published a fax sent to all clubs with a list of suspended players ahead of the latest round of Copa del Rey fixtures. 'Cheryshev (one match)' was clearly mentioned halfway down the list.

But the most recent and worst precedent for Madrid comes as recently as September this year, when Osasuna were eliminated after fielding an ineligible player in their Copa tie against Mirandes. If, as expected, the RFEF take the same line with Real later this week, they will be kicked out of the competition.
