As the Christmas holiday draws nearer, lots and lots of people are making preparations on how best they will celebrate Christmas, some plan on travelling, some wants to celebrate with friends and loved ones at home etc.

What ever your plans are on how you will be celebrating Christmas, one thing is for sure, there will be increase in shopping activities. With so many things to buy, gifts, cards, clothes food items etc. So also scammers have patiently waited for this time of the year, they have also improved on their old tactics and formulated new ones in order to break security defenses.

consumers are often duped by a number of tactics employed by criminals to profit from a lack of security awareness. Although the ways that criminals attempt to steal your data are varied, creative and widespread. It's not easy to remain vigilant all of the time, but there are some tips and advice on what to look out for to avoid scams this holiday season.

People are likely to spend more than necessary in times like this. Ensure you have a budget that suits you, sometimes when we go out for shopping we end up buying more than we originally planned, and this might be as a result of so many factors. Do ensure you stick to your budget, number one way to really waste money is shopping without a list and talking about list, avoid too much gift list.

In some cases it is always advisable to resist the urge to 'act now' as scammers will want to pressure you into making quick decisions about money and investments without thinking twice.

You might also want to put away your credit cards as you would not want to accumulate debts which you have to settle with high interest after the holiday.

Advertisements offering unbelievable deals and discount on hot items, that seem too good to be true, need to be avoided, i.e. You need to stay away from such offers or shady deals. Scammers might try to entice people with such deals. In such cases ensure you are buying from a well recognized and reputable Shop. This is the time to avoid those roadside shopping. This does not mean you should not compare price of items before paying for them.

Even shopping online is not an exception, you are more likely to be scammed when shopping online than making a physical purchase. Booking for a hotel or a flight ticket on the internet has really made life easy, but scammers are all over the internet to lure and deceive people. You should be careful with the internet in this season, as you are more likely to be scammed online than physical.

If you must use your credit cards, ensure you do not use them or enter your personal information on website you are not sure it's genuine.

sometimes these scammers may disguise themselves by claiming to be representatives of some kind of charity organizations, or claim to be victims of a known natural disaster, and are likely to dupe people through solicitous emails and fake charity websites.

You can check if the website is safe by using the Google SafeBrowsing report by typing http://google.com/
safebrowsing/diagnostic?site=
into
your address bar with the website
address after the equals sign, and hit
enter.

Conclusion
It is not just enough to be vigilant only before and during Christmas, the day after Christmas may be busier than the days spent while shopping and preparing for Christmas. therefore you still ought to be at alert at all times.
