Christmas Made In Nigeria by Nobody: 7:27pm On Nov 27, 2015
The year is drawing to an end and the main thing on the mind is how to spend the Christmas and New Year holiday. Once we get into the New Year, everyone goes back to schedule – working almost all the time. Christmas break is a wonderful time to hang out with friends, get some things/ places off our bucket list and generally just relish the season. Christmas in Nigeria spells FUN. It is a time when families get together, homes filled with an assortment of drinks, rice and chicken and children getting gifts. You can literally taste the excitement in the air. With Jollof rice very plenty, this is not a time to be abroad. People naturally go home to be with families but if you don’t have anyone to go to, just get a room in any of the best hotels in Nigeria and experience a Christmas made in Nigeria. Here are some features of Christmas in Nigeria.

Family Gatherings

A lot of people travel back to their hometown to be with their extended families. Apart from travelling within the country, people who have been away from Nigeria for a long time, often come back too to spend the wonderful time at home. It is a special time to trade stories with long seen friends and families over a bowl of fufu. There is one party or the other everywhere and everyone greeting each other.

Nigerian Delicacies

What is a festivity without food? Food is at the heart of everything for obvious reasons. The famed Jollof rice, common in a number of African countries, is a delicacy you can’t miss around this time. Some other delicacies enjoyed in abundance include Fufu and Okro soup, rice and fried chicken, peanut soup and plenty of meat.

Decorations

From houses to trees, everything is made to look pretty for the season. Just like in the West, families decorate trees with multi-coloured nylon paper wrappers and light bulbs. Everywhere is kept clean and attractive. Children get to wear new cloths and adults don colourful attires – sometimes traditional.

Beach Time

The festive atmosphere dictates relaxation and the beach side is a perfect place for this. Around Christmas to New Year day, the beaches in Nigeria become the favourite destination for family picnic and fun time.
To ensure you have a wonderful time in Nigeria this coming festive period, start planning towards it now. If you are travelling, plan towards transportation and accommodation. You can take advantage of Christmas hotel discounts to book beach hotels in Lagos (http://www.jovago.com/en-gb/nigeria/o3724/eko-tourist-beach-resort-lagos) or any of the best hotels in Nigeria(http://www.jovago.com/en-gb/hotels/nigeria/136).
