A40:oh! you were talking about Hazard, I see! U got me confused at first. Yeah...he'll score when the goal keepers can't save his shots, he had more than 2 sweet shots on target yesterday, the goal keeper did a great job. |

First part of the post Football's underappreciated genuises The game is rife with figures who have continued to confound fans and players alike with their ground-breaking and innovative works in tactics and management. Some like Pep Guardiola are celebrated and idolized the world over .Others remain in obscurity and continue to do their job , underappreciated and away from the spotlight. Here are my thoughts on Football’s most underappreciated geniuses. First up is the one they call El Loco, Marcelo Bielsa MARCELO BIELSA Fondly referred to as El Loco, the Argentine is something of a mad genius. Tactical innovations and attacking football are synonymous with this man. Pep Guardiola once referred to him as the ‘master’. His philosophy of attacking with six players and pressing are revered across the world of football. His style and blueprint have adopted by many managers notably Pep Guardiola, Jorge Sampaoli, his successor at the Chile national team. Most of the success enjoyed by the South American nation is as a result of the groundwork laid by Bielsa. He has also coached at Athletic Bilbao, where he led them to an Europa League final and Spanish cup finals. His signature formation is the 3-1-3-3/3-4-3 which Guardiola has toyed with this season at Bayern Munich Most players say he is difficult to work with while others praise him. His style has often been criticized for its physical demands and the toll it takes on players. But for all his great work and contribution to the game, major success has eluded him. He is yet to win the UEFA Champions league or any major competition. Ask most football fans today who Marcelo Bielsa is and all get is a blank expression. Truly an under appreciated great of the game. |

pkasso:How do we begin to take seriously someone who here saw Makelele as a regista in my post We might be dealing with a health issue here |

How\Why is Marcelo Bielsa a genius though? Are you discussing what you actually know or just regurgitating information from some hipster's blog? |

Claude makelele fits into my unappreciated genius category He started his playing as a more forward minded player in Nantes and later to Celta Vigo where he started to develop into a more defensive player He went to Madrid in 2000 and slotted into the midfield with the new president Fiorentino Perez starting his Galactico philosophy which he priortized paying huge amount for attacking talents like Figo, Zidane, Ronaldo, Beckham he ignored the defensive players and was of the opinion that anyone could play defence he called his philosophy the "Zidanes and Pavons" Unfortunately makelele was grouped among the "Pavons" limited players who were not worth much investment on them In 2004 makelele asked for an improve contract and Perez told him off that he can leave if he wishes. Perez came out openly to lash him saying He had average technique, He cannot pass the ball beyond a few meters and his passes are sideways and backwards making it sound like he was the ancestor of Mikel Obi Makelele duly left Madrid and to Chelsea. It would be noted that when he was in Chelsea, Madrid never went beyond the Second round and Chelsea in Makelele's time only failed to go beyond the second round just once His playing style simple in that he kept things simple. He was the middle man that gives assurance to the attackers to go out and do their job. When attacking he stays around the center line to break up any counter attack and promptly release it with his short and simple 3 yard passes |

raumdeuter:Your post is open to interpretation. What was i supposed to think. You didn't state which one you were going to pick so I naturally assumed you were referring to the Regista thingy. Nihilist:I discussed this earlier. His works have been adopted by several coaches and even some of these tacticians pay homage to him. As i said earlier on the Chelsea thread, i would not cheat. Everything i put up there was straight from my head and knowledge of the game. You fit carry charm come i go swear on top am . |

2. ZDENEK ZEMAN Most followers of the Italian game will remember this man for his crazy attacking tactics. He is a big proponent of the saying ‘attack is the best form of defense’. Zdenek Zeman’s teams were uber-attacking but terrible defensively. Neutrals would love to watch his team play. I particularly remember his days at Pescara back in Serie B where he helped them to Serie A promotion. It was under his tutelage that the trio of Marco Veratti, Lorenzo Insigne and Ciro Immobile rose to prominence. His time at Roma wasn’t so good and he was finally fired. He will never be revered as Arrigo Sacchi or Helenio Herrera but that still doesn’t take anything away from the fact that he helped introduced an attacking brand of football to a league formerly known for its ‘stiffness’ or boring football. Hats off to another unappreciated tactical great. |

Gotta run guys.I don't think i've spent so much time online as today. Running on a tight schedule. It was fun doing this but i will be back later. Just before i go. he called his philosophy the "Zidanes and Pavons" U I have a problem with this. Perez goal was to integrate world-class, renonwned stars with home grown products..Zidane from one side Pavon on the other. It had less to do with names or popularity. I am out! |

pkasso:Time to either fault your argument or fact check it Sampaoli wasnt the successor to Bialsa for the Chilean national team. The successor to Bielsa was Borghi. Any objection? Judges. How many points do we deduct |
| Re: Offical Bayern Munich Fan Thread: 6x Champions Of Europe by raumdeuter: 5:52pm On Dec 08, 2015 |
pkasso:There has been attacking football in Italy before Zeman. Actually Arrigo Sacchi played attacking football in Milan 2. Zeman was more known for his controversy in suggesting that Serie A especially Juventus players were using drugs which led to investigations and jailing |

SIRcumalot:I'm not being partial, but pkasso's post to me just looks likes the exact same romanticized content you find on a lot of these hipster football blogs like in bed with maradona and 8by8. The issue here is that his post is written from what looks like a journalistic viewpoint....and isn't consistent with the way most of us here consume our football - On TV. You can't be talking about his blue print and his legacy...especially given that most of the tactical intricacy cant even be seen on TV. Dayo too is just fooling himself talking about makelele. I've said this several times...the camera follows the ball on TV. Half the game you cannot even see makelele so the postulating and pontificating is just foolish. Both men are just trying to out-hipster the other. Dead boys ![]() |

pkasso:My reference to this policy was in their financial worth to the club not to where they came from Raul was a home grown player and I would say he was more of a Zidane than a Pavon. while a player like Geremi Njitap or Celades would be considered "Pavons" despite not being home grown |
| Re: Offical Bayern Munich Fan Thread: 6x Champions Of Europe by raumdeuter: 6:01pm On Dec 08, 2015 |
Nihilist:70% of the game you cannot see Neuer or Cortuois so how do you know they are good keepers or doing their job? You might not see Makelele on football camera most of the time but you can see the result for the team. when the opposition breaks and they are promptly dispossessed Matic plays in a role similar to Makelele now, How come pundits were able to note his influence on Chelsea last season vs this season |
| Re: Offical Bayern Munich Fan Thread: 6x Champions Of Europe by SIRcumalot: 6:08pm On Dec 08, 2015 |

Nihilist:He even lied as usual raumdeuter:In 2003/2004 while makelele was in chelsea, based on above real madrid did nt make it to quarter finals, right? That's how you lie up and down. You cant just do without it. I will always point out your lies and blunders and correct you, real madrid lost out to monaco in 2003/2004 ucl in the quarter finals. Put that in your brain. cc pataki, pkasso |
| Re: Offical Bayern Munich Fan Thread: 6x Champions Of Europe by Nihilist: 6:22pm On Dec 08, 2015 |
raumdeuter:The difference between a keeper and a midfielder is quite clear. Keeper's job is reactive in that his sole duty is to keep the ball out of the net. The keeper has to wait for the ball to come to him before he can do his job, and the camera always follows the ball. So even though we might only see the keeper for 30% of the time(If that), during the time we see him, we are seeing at least 70% of his total contribution to the game The DM like makelele wasnt generally involved in play. Win the ball and pass it off was his mantra. He didn't make runs. He always sat deep. The Camera follows the ball. Most of the time you cant actually see him. When you do see him, you may see him make an interception, or a tackle. But because you could not see how he positioned himself off camera to intercept the pass when the ball came to him, how can you tell that he was genius interceptor? All you could see was the tackle or the interception. The most logical conclusion you can make from that is that the guy might be good at intercepting and tackling....but do those two attributes make him a genius? This is where the pundits come in - armed with fancy technology, multiple camera angles and their personal experience of playing the game, they can see a lot more than we can, and then use their experience to interpret the plays for us based on their opinions. So if you say Makelele is genius, is that your unsubstantiated opinion? Or the regurgitated opinions of the TV pundits and press who are keen to call Makelele a genius? This is the reason why your argument with pkasso is nothing more than a dickwaving contest. But please...kontinu ![]() |
