Enugu has one of the largest and highest growing residential estates in Nigeria. Can the Enugu government make an attempt to come with business districts especially in the proposed centenary city. We need to move away from building residential houses. We need l dot our skyline with skyscrapers or at least well thought out business buildings.

That has been on my mind and I am doing a proposal to the state government...The only small set back here is lack of constant power.. for the lifts as to go as high as 15 to 20 levels...But it is a good idea..

I am trying to obtain accurate data of how many estates we have in Enugu and how many houses in average. Our housing sector is supposed to be meeting the challenges of the future.

We need lots and lots more well-planned housing estates in Enugu right now.
Infact, the Emene and Ninth Mile zone should be opened up with roads for many more housing estates. All should be well planned like the Centenary city plan, slums should not be tolerated.

We have many in diaspora returning in the next 5-10 years and want to make Enugu their home.
Not to mention many of our people trapped in northern nigeria right now, that are desperate to have a home in Enugu and other parts of SE to escape the northern genocide being planned. New Owerri and Egbeada area, Awka, New Anam city around GRA-"33" Onitsha, Asaba are also important areas to open up.

We need to make more estates available so that all these categories of folks that want to come back home can have a chance to own a home in the safety of their homeland.

Hehehe! Afam's eyes have opened to what I've been referring to all along. Igbos need to start converting some of those Igbotic structures to glass houses and corporate buildings to give our cities real city looks. They could still be residential but with corporate looks.

Which one is igbotic structures again? By residential houses I'm referring to mostly duplexes that dot most residential estates and not those several storey residential building in SE towns. I was only suggesting that we start looking erecting office buildings or pent houses as opposed to the regular residential houses.

Yes, these estates are the ONLY HOPE for many of our people. They don't even know the name of their village in Igboland! I know a family living in the north, their parents are dead now and they never took them to the east as kids when they were alive.

These kids speak hausa fluently and even one is married to a fulani girl. but because their surname is Igbo, the northerners regard them as igbo.I used to think they didn't want to leave the north because they speak hausa, until i found out they are actually desperate to relocate to the SE, but don't even know the hassles involved in buying land, and they can't really speak Igbo, so they are in trouble. so these estates are their ONLY HOPE or they will be slaughtered someday in northern nigeria.

those guys should look towards abakiliki, aba and maybe nsukka...enugu and owerri would probably be more expensive for them since on the average cost of living is cheaper in the north they are used to than Enugu or owerri

Forget about account balance, even my uncle who lives in the north affirmed that southerners are trying. They in the north are not used to high costs of accommodation ranging from rent to cost of land

No new development. I don't know how much State government is contributing but from the look of things, the contractor; Private Estates, is not aggressive about the project. I was thinking that money generated from Land sale, which is quite high, is to be channelled into providing basic facilities in the city.

For development to have stopped with exit of Chime suggests State government has much input in the project.

Have seen this building before...Can be clearly seen from bush bar, it's quite big and beautiful.
It appears the building material market is still advancing, didn't turn out to be an abandoned project.

I heard the vehicles that sweep road work early in the morning? most of the roads are clean even as we are in dusty dry season.

Thanks for the photos.

The international airport, today.

The Kano terminal has been completely roofed and plastered. I will get the picture from a friend that took the picture last week.

Funny enough, Kano terminal was started almost one year after Enugu terminal started.

^^^It's this type of blatant cheating and wickedness that's made me give up on this farce of a country!

Some people believe Nigeria was created only for them, and everyone else has to wait till they've had their fill before we're allowed to settle for leftovers!

The useless elite Ndigbo have are also a big part of our problem! The fools are gullible, have no pan-Igbo outlook, and certainly don't know how to defend their own from being cheated!

I always suspected that with the coming of Buhari and his bigoted northern Igbo-hating kitchen cabinet, that Kano would be fast-tracked so they can be first to help themselves to any new opportunities/routes that would come with the extra capacity these new terminals would bring!

If Ndigbo did just half of what these wicked people are doing, by now they -together with their southern allies- would have been up in arms and burnt the entire country to the ground!

I can still recall vividly when it was being said during GEJ that Enugu terminal will be completed before others, am not sure but I think they said the same at beginning part of Buhari's administration. I can even dig out newspaper publications on this. Now what changed over night, that Kano terminal is being completed before that of Enugu.

Well, it's expected of Northern government. But from the events of the last election, I thought Buhari should pursue unity of this country.

Enugu is among the few cities in Nigeria that is relatively seriously about city planning. I say 'relatively' because they aren't yet anyway near standard as obtained in country serious with city development.

However, In the picture is a new layout, still developing, you won't find any bungalow. In GRA Enugu and some other residential layout, if your land is approved as residential, but you want to erect shops in the same land, you are only allowed to build a maximum of 3 shops.

The town planning authority is making some effort but it's not enough yet. For instance, in a lot of places people sell on the road, it's so funny how these people struggle Road with vehicles.

Igboland is not landlock.

There are many choices for Ndiigbo, the first is to dredge the river and build Obuaku Deep seaport in Abia.

The second is to follow the river out to the Ocean and as was done in Dubai, embark on land reclamation and then develop it to a massive deep seaport.

^^^The Obuaku option is preferable because the river concerned flows straight into Alaigbo and ends its journey there, unlike the River Niger that's shared by many other ethnicities and countries!

One thing am sure of is Alaigbo is not landlock, our politicians have not seriously embarked on building a massive deep seaport (if not the largest in Africa) for the eastern zone, once they do, we will definately have one.

I hope the Enugu state government helps the farmers to organize into cooperatives to source loans and farm input from government. most importantly, they have a functional rice mill in the area to bag their produce for the market.
One day, oil will finish in Nigeria so that we can finally concentrate in real sectors that produce jobs and true prosperity which oil could never do.

Great write up, yes agriculture can be the largest employment sector in the country, it can also be a major driver for the rest of the Nigeria economy including banking, logistics, infrastructure development, marketing and agro science research. It would really boost the economy of Nigeria but must be taken seriously by the government. Concrete and effective policies should be put in place, at least 20 schools of agriculture schools should be opened spread out across Nigeria. Various levels of education should be provided, these schools should not be aimed for people obtaining worthless paper degrees but should aim to provide people with the right practical and basic management skills to go out start farming. Coop farms should be set up and priority given to people trained from these schools. Instead of offering startup loans that people can't afford to pay back or discourage people to go into agriculture, coops should be setup and large tranches of land given to agriculture property management company who will through government grants build the infrastructure required including livestock buildings, storage facilities: purchase, manage and maintain equipment required for farming such as tractors, tillers, harvesters. Small farmers are then given an opportunity to work within this farming estate or become members of the coop and pay a rental fee for land, rental fee for hire of equipment, rental fee for storage etc and access to seeds and fertilizers.
Loans and grants should however be provided to farmers that are established and can prove they have been in a structured profitable agric business for at least 3 years. People should stop talking nonsense.

If Jonathan wasn't president, nobody would even consider building a new airport terminal in Enugu or even permitting international flights from there. Buhari and his fellow Northerners (Gowon, Murtala, Shagari, Babangida, Abacha and Abdulsalami) plus Obasanjo were in power for more than 40 years, how come none of them considered permitting international flights from Enugu?

If not for Stella Oduah, we won't even be talking about a new international terminal, let alone completing it. You don't know how these people think, they will tell you "after all, Port Harcourt is close to Enugu, they can use Port Harcourt".

Do you know the war that had to be fought before Ethiopian Airlines flew out of Enugu, do you those people are looking for an excuse to stop international flights from Enugu?

Secondly, Buhari has been in power for close to 7 months, within those months, the ministry of aviation (the Permanent Secretary was a woman from the North) probably told the Chinese to expedite action on the Kano terminal and go slow on the Enugu terminal. In fact, the only reason why this administration is considering any projects in the South East is because they want to counter the narrative of the Biafran agitators.

If you recall, Oshiomohle was trying to rubbish what Jonathan and Okonjo-Iweala had done on the Second Niger Bridge, but when APC realized that this would play into the hands of Biafran agitators, they are now keeping quiet.

Wait for Buhari's 4 years to elapse like I wrote earlier. The Owerri Airport has been added and is equally being upgraded and this was done by Buhari admin. Jonathan did nothing tangible to even defend him for. If you make a true assessment of our infrastructure you'll realize we got little or nothing.

Let me break this to you. Buhari is more interested in finding oil in Lake Chad (read the 2016 budget) - he allocated almost N30 billion for just that. Get that budget & look for the allocations to the South East, there is nothing.
