Look for another job. The owners of company do not owe you a life time job opportunity. Some were retained and the people they don't need were relieved of their duty. Nobody sacks a productive worker and if a productive worker gets sacked, another job awaits them. As for those screaming CHANGE bla bla. Crude oil is less that $40, Corruption is being reduced. There will definitely be some impact on Oil and Gas companies. This is common sense though i quite agree that it can not be found with any GEJ's supporter. |

pikapizy:So you can't own a business but a business owner must retain you against all odd whether you are adding to his bottom line or not? |

After reading the publication and comments here, I think it is necessary to cut the crap and avoid people getting this wrong. I have been following the Oil and Gas industry for a while and I can take you that Oando has funding issues. The company made huge investment last year before the drop in Oil prices (poor strategic decision). In order to address this concern, they divested their stake in their Downstream sector (red flag when a company is having financing issues). Recently, the company is proposing a Right Issue to existing shareholders, they are also proposing to divest further and concentrate more on Upstream (a huge financing red flag). Also, the company has a net cash deficit of over N69 billion and made a loss of over N47 billion in its recently released quarterly financial results (September 2015). The Oil & Gas industry is not finding it rosy and this trend will continue. Employees should have seen the signs and begin to plan their exit. Oando must survive and it must trim its cost to address the external pressure it is currently facing. It's huge staff expense has to go down, hence the layoffs. Oando is not the only oil and gas company facing this challenge. The multinationals are also experiencing the same thing. Layoffs are currently ongoing in America. I may sound a bit harsh, but the staff members complaining are unfair. Except they are ignorant of the financial position of their Company. I informed a friend that in 30 years, the Oil and Gas industry may be history because of technology. Consumer preference is shifting towards alternative energy. Vehicles may begin to run on solar or electric power, homeowners and manufacturing companies may decide to use solar power to reduce their huge energy cost. I also advised a Youth Corper to avoid applying for Oil and Gas vacancies. This is not the best time. On the other hand, Banks are going to find it hard next year in view of the stringent economic reform plans a.k.a BUHARINOMICS. However, this sector may bounce back from 2017. Let me conclude by requesting that employees should study the financial statements of their companies. It will educate you and help you plan better. |

osazeeblue01:Sir, this is a poor comment. What is affecting these people is a global situation and not country specific. Buhari economic plans cannot change the Oil & Gas industry. The industry is just going through phase one of its downtime. There is phase two, which will completely eradicate the industry and make it obsolete. An illustration is what Musical CD plate did to Vinyl and what Online Streaming is doing to CD plate now. This phase two period may not come soon, but it is unavoided. Investors are spending huge money to develop alternative energy because it is cheaper and environmentally friendly. Ever heard of Elon Musk? He is a South African-American Billionaire. The man has dedicated his life in making groundbreaking inventions. His car, Tesla, an electric premium car, won the best car of the year twice in a roll. He is also creating a tube that can get people to their destination in seconds and his passion is alternative energy. |

according to rich dad poor dad... I WILL PREFER TO SPEND THE FIRST 10YRS OF MY LIFE BUILDING A BUSINESS THAT GIVES ME INCOME THAT I CAN CONTROL THAN TO WORK FOR EARNED INCOME WHERE I HAVE NO CONTROL... In paid employment especially in naija where NLC/TLC/Pengassan is only interested in political kick back money; weather Oil & gas; banking; civil service etc u dont have control u can b sacked one day... why not buildup ur business full time or part time and be free from sack letter in future |

deebsman1:It was the governors forum that kept pressuring Mr. President to share oil money in the Excess Crude Account. And this wicked insensitive pressure group was headed by one of your champions Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi. Imagine Nigeria still had $40bn in ECA, will all this noise come up ? If Nigerians allowed Jonathan to cancel subsidy in January 2013, will we be here ? I guess NOT GEJ is actually a visionary leader but too diplomatic and democratic. He saw all that we are currently passing through. As President, i would not have shared a DIME from the Excess Crude Account to Nigerian governors once every state gets its monthly allocation from the federation account. |

amazingspiderma:Sir, it is better not to comment when you have little knowledge on an issue. Oando and Honeywell, two companies operating in different industries, are not companies that suddenly appeared from thin air a.k.a Shell companies. These are publicly owned companies, trading in the Nigeria Stock Exchange. |

MadCow1:I work in the industry too and it is not looking good at the moment. My company is doing better than the completion mainly because the bulk of our clients are based in the Middle East where production costs are lower and investments are still being made (at a reduced level). Even so they are laying off some admin staff. |

@ op, I doubt Pengassan can be of any help since you are not her members. I wonder why you guys failed to join Pengassan as soon as you formed the required quorum. I bet you were all enjoying the good pay without realizing that capitalists are the same everywhere. It is a bitter way to learn a lesson on solidarity. I wish you the best. |

dustydee:It's bad everywhere. Luckily the company I work for just got about 4 new projects for 2016 and they still have a couple more undergoing the bid process still. I even just got a sort of promotion today sef to mid management as one the leads on one of the projects. Infact we would be recruiting a few experienced hands to work on these upcoming projects for next year.Alot of jobs would prop up in the servicing industry next year. The big IOC's would be outsourcing a large chunk of their works and departments. IT especially. This period would pass for sure. Just prep yourself to exploit it when the time comes. |

When a ceo comes to say nobody will be sacked, it means opposite. Why should a company like oando empties its vault to political campaign in anticipation for ministerial position. Nigerian businessmen sha. Power and Greed. |
