Ighalo blames frustration for pulling shirt after goal https://africanfootball.com/bp_images/2015/12/Samm_26_February_1_580x473.jpg Ighalo by Samm Audu Nigeria striker Odion Ighalo has revealed he was frustrated before he netted his last-gasp goal for Watford at home against Norwich City and that was why he celebrated by pulling off his shirt when he finally scored. Watford won 2-0 on Saturday, but before then Ighalo missed several chances and even had a goal cancelled for offside even though television replays later showed that effort should have stood. The 26-year-old Ighalo celebrated by pulling his shirt and earning a yellow card with the Nigeria striker saying he did so because he was frustrated before the goal. “I was frustrated because I should have scored at least three goals before I did, including a good goal which was ruled out for offside,” he revealed. Ighalo has now scored nine goals for Watford in the English Premier League. africanfootball.com//news/591589/Ighalo-blames-frustration-for-pulling-shirt-after-goal |

The former Wigan Athletic forward suffered a hamstring injury on Saturday while in action for West Ham against Manchester United. "It's still too early [to tell with Moses], but it doesn't look good again. It's a hamstring - he felt it and we had to take him off,” said Bilic told the West Ham official website "It's a big blow for us, but we have to stay positive as some of the players maybe have a chance of being back for the Stoke game. If not Stoke, then Swansea." If Moses is ruled out for a considerable period of time, it will seriously weaken West Ham’s attacking options. africanfootball.com/news/591580/West-Ham-boss-laments-Victor-Moses-injury |

Nigeria: Two Attributes Will Lead Eagles to Russia 2018 - Abbey By Mansur Abubakar Former Super Eagles defender George Abbey has allayed the growing fears among Nigeria's football lovers of Super Eagles getting a tough draw in the final qualification draw for the Russia 2018 World Cup, saying respect for opponents and good preparations are the two elements that will see Sunday Oliseh's team through. FIFA is expected to make the draws mid next year but Nigerian fans, have foreseen a tough draw for the Eagles, based on the lowly ratings of the national team in the world rankings and African brackets, with five time African champions Egypt, three time winners Cameroun and defending victors Ivory Coast all mentioned as possible opponents. "The teams being mentioned all possess very good players and will all want to be at the World Cup. I don't think we should fear any of those teams, we should respect them and prepare accordingly. It doesn't matter who we come up against, it is going to be very tough but I believe we also have very good players who will rise to the occasion." The fitness coach told Fever Pitch yesterday. The African countries that successfully made it to the last round are Gabon, Zambia, Uganda, DR Congo, Morocco, Guinea, Libya, Cameroon, Ghana, Nigeria, Congo, Egypt, South Africa, Ivory Coast, Tunisia, Burkina Faso, Algeria, Cape Verde, Senegal and Mali. They are expected to be grouped into four teams of five groups. The teams will play home and away matches at the end of which a team will qualify for the World Cup from the each of the five groups. Pinnick, however, maintained that the NFF is not worried about the seeding for the last round of the qualifiers and won't lose sleep over who the opponents of the Eagles would be after the draws. "Our concern is to prepare the senior national team for the group stage of the qualifiers. We believe that all the 20 teams that made the last stage are African super powers who merited their qualifications. "So the best we can do is to prepare the Eagles for the task ahead and ensure that Nigeria qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup" Pinnick said while in Lagos recently. allafrica.com/stories/201512071670.html |

OLISEH NOT JOINING CHAN EAGLES IN NIGERIA - OFFICIAL https://africanfootball.com/bp_images/2015/12/Samm_22_November_4.jpg It can exclusively be revealed that Nigeria coach Sunday Oliseh will not be joining up with the team when they resume training camp for next year’s CHAN as he continues to recover from a virus infection. Gbolahan Salami leads league stars to CHAN camp Twenty six players of the home-based Eagles will resume training in Abuja on Monday, December 14, ahead of the CHAN in Rwanda in January. However, a top official informed Oliseh will only join up with the Eagles in South Africa when they set up training camp there later this month by which time he would have fully recovered. “Oliseh will not come to Nigeria as he is still recovering from illness in Belgium. He will now join the Eagles in South Africa when they begin training camp there,” disclosed the official. Oliseh himself has admitted he has not fully recovered from a virus infection, which has seen him lose weight dramatically. The illness forced him to miss the CHAN Eagles second leg qualifier in Burkina Faso. Assistant coach Salisu Yusuf is expected to lead the team in the absence of Oliseh as he did in Ouagadougou. http://africanfootball.com/news/592155/Oliseh-not-joining-CHAN-Eagles-in-Nigeria-official |

DEENEY AND I CAN KEEP WATFORD UP - IGHALO https://africanfootball.com/bp_images/2015/12/Samm_10_September_1.jpg Nigeria international Odion Ighalo has said he believes been fit alongside strike partner Troy Deeney will keep Watford afloat in the EPL this season. The former Udinese striker reckoned his blossoming partnership with the team captain is one of the reasons for the club's performance. The two strikers have 14 goals between them this season, Ighalo with nine goals and Deeney with five goals as both scored 41 goals last season to take the team up to EPL. "We played with each other in the Championship last season and we were great. I scored 20 and he scored 21. We've been working hard every day and I know we've been causing defenders serious problems. We know if we keep fit and doing this we'll stay up," he told London Evening Express. “The coach is giving me belief and he is happy with the work-rate I am putting into the game. “I’ve scored nine now but I don’t want to stop there. I want to keep on working hard and scoring goals.” http://africanfootball.com/news/591981/Deeney-and-I-can-keep-Watford-up-Ighalo |

Nigerian Fanendo Adi Earns MLS Cup Crown By Peter Pedroncell https://d22atgph1ebwrd.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/sites/21/2015/12/Fanendo-Adi-620x350.jpg Fanendo Adi - mlssoccer.com Nigerian attacker Fanendo Adi represented Africa with pride over the weekend as his Portland Timbers side beat Columbus Crew 2-1 in the final to secure the Major League Soccer (MLS) Cup 2015 title. The win ensured that the Portland Timbers become the first Pacific Northwest team to win the MLS Cup, entering the feat into the record books. The Nigerian striker did not manage to get on the scoresheet in the encounter, but he had two excellent opportunities saved by Columbus Crew goalkeeper Steve Clark in the 70th and 90th minutes. Thankfully, however, his contribution was an important one, and his team-mates capitalised on their chances. A first minute strike from Diego Valeri was followed up by a goal from Rodney Wallace in the seventh minute, ensuring that the Timbers enjoyed a 2-0 lead early on. Columbus Crew would find a first half goal to put pressure on the Timbers, as Sierra Leone talent Kai Kamara scored in the 18th minute, but it would prove nothing more than a consolation goal for Kamara’s side, as the Timbers lifted the cup. Adi is not a well-known striker in his homeland, but excellent performances at his MLS club ensure that this fact will no doubt change over the course of the next year, with the physically imposing 25-year-old already making a name for himself in the American top flight. http://afkinsider.com/107968/nigerian-fanendo-adi-earns-mls-cup-crown/ |

Nigeria: Musa Laments Goal Drought for Club, Country Super Eagles captain, Ahmed Musa said that his inability to find the back of the net in 15 games for club and country is worrisome. He told his club CSKA Moscow website that it was a shame that his goal scoring has deserted him. He has played 11 games before yesterday's Championships League clash against PSV and four games for the Super Eagles without scoring. "I am no longer a scorer, it's a pretty painful subject. I have nothing to say. Myself, it's a shame that so many matches I can not score," says Musa to CSKA Moscow's official website, pfc - cska.com. "But it's not that I do not want to score or go all out on the field. I am doing everything possible, just that the ball does not go into the net." Madu ecstatic over first Nigeria call by George Akpayen https://images.supersport.com/2015/12/Christian-Madu.jpg Enugu Rangers midfielder Christian Madu is over the moon following his debut call by Nigeria to prepare for the 2016 Chan in Rwanda. It was a mixture of delight and surprise for Madu when got the call to join the Nigerian men's national team, the Super Eagles. However, he quickly picked himself up from the unexpected news to recognise that though the good news is coming just days before Christmas, the national selectors are no Santa Claus. "To be honest I am so happy with the news" said Madu to supersport.com. "It is not that I don't see myself good enough to make the team but I am a bit surprised by it. Right now I know it is going to be serious work when the camp opens. So I must work very hard to impress the coaches." The 22-year-old midfielder is ready to forfeit the festive holidays to honour the national call. He also recognises that it will be a combination of battling for a place in the Chan squad and a learning curve from the Super Eagles coaches. "It will be an opportunity for me to be part of the camp, and I hope I can impress because there are so many good players in the squad. I will also go there with the mind to learn," he said. Madu does have quite an impressive list of midfielders to compete against when the camp opens next week Monday. Paul Onobi, Ifeanyi Matthew, Usman Mohammed, Bature Yaro, Osas Okoro, Ikechukwu Ibenegbu, Julius Ubido and Ibrahim Salawu are the other midfielders named in Nigeria's preliminary squad for the African Nations Championship (Chan). http://www.supersport.com/football/super-eagles/news/151208/Madu_ecstatic_over_first_Nigeria_call |

Nigerian Champions League starlet would be perfect for Tottenhamby Rucker Haringey Follow @@RuckerHaringey Tottenham is reported to be scouring Gent striker Laurent Depoitre, but they should also be looking at his teammate Moses Simon I tuned in to the Champions League clash pitting Gent versus Zenit with the express purpose to watch rumored Tottenham striker target Laurent Depoitre. As I watched, my eyes were increasingly drawn towards one of his teammates. Speedy Nigerian winger Moses Simon seems like a perfect fit for Mauricio Pochettino. Most in the media believe that Tottenham scouts were in attendance for Gent’s match today in order to further evaluate Depoitreas a potential striker alternative to Harry Kane. I certainly can see the attraction in the six-foot, four-inch striker who can really bother opposing defenses as a target man. I’m sure Pochettino was happy that his scouts were there to see the hulking Belgian but I don’t think it was their central mission. Their central mission was much more likely to be Simon. He is only 20-years-old and better fits the model that Pochettino has applied to Tottenham transfer policy during his tenure as manager. Against Zenit, he showcased electrifying pace and really good quality in the final third. He created significant width for Gent and gave Depoitre good service. In short, he’s the prototypical winger that Tottenham lacks at the moment. He’s really everything Spurs wish that Andros Townsend would be. He’s fast, has a strong work rate and can put in a wicked cross. Townsend obviously hasn’t found a way to harness his talent on the field and seems destined for a ticket out of North London. If he goes, the young Nigerian would be an ideal replacement. Tottenham has been reported to have interest in the lightning fast winger previously as well. Back in October, the Mirror reportedthat Tottenham had a longstanding interest in Simon and were simply monitoring Depoitre. It’s funny that just a few months later similar media sources now report that it’s the opposite. Let me be clear, I wouldn’t mind having Depoitre as well. He would give us a qualified backup option at striker and his game is different enough from Harry Kane’s to serve as a true plan B. He’s skillful both with his head and feet and could be a real tough customer for opposing Premier League defenders. The downside to him is that he’s already 27-years-old which doesn’t exactly fit with Tottenham’s transfer policy as of late. Under Pochettino, Spurs have clearly committed to buying youth players and bringing them into the first team. It would be very easy to see him sanctioning a purchase for Simon and integrating him immediately into the senior squad. NFF condole Keshi on wife's death https://africanfootball.com//bp_images/2015/12/Stephen_Keshi_Nigeria.jpg Stephen Keshi-Bereaved The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) have condoled the country’s former coach Stephen Keshi on the death of his wife Kate. NFF president Amaju Pinnick spoke at length with Keshi over the phone on Thursday afternoon, as news of the tragic incident filtered into the public space. It was confirmed on Thursday that Kate, 54, died on Wednesday night in far away United States of America, after a brief illness. “This is devastating. To lose a spouse is the equivalent of a tragedy. I pray that Almighty God will give you and the children the fortitude to bear this huge loss,” Pinnick told Keshi over the phone. The ‘Big Boss,’ who captained Nigeria for over 10 years, in the process winning the Africa Cup of Nations gold, silver and bronze, coached the squad to a third African title in South Africa early 2013. He was in charge of the Super Eagles between November 2011 and June 2015, during which he also led the team to the Round of 16 at the FIFA World Cup finals in Brazil. “Keshi is a Nigerian hero and we mourn deeply with him at this time. This has come like a big blow, but we pray that he receives divine strength to cope with the situation, and we also pray that the Almighty God will grant the departed eternal rest,” Pinnick added. http://africanfootball.com/news/592715/NFF-condole-Keshi-on-wife-s-death |

Benue State-born Adi netted 19 goals this season for Portland to clinch a historic MLS triumph. “I am hopeful (I will be called up by Nigeria). I have talked with the coach and he has assured me I will get my time,” he said. Adi, who has also featured in Slovenia, was a few years ago called up by the Nigeria Olympic team. Speculations have linked him with a move to England, Italy or Mexico. “I have been hearing the rumours, but there is nothing official yet,” he said. “I still have contract with Portland Timbers, but we will look into any offers.” http://mtnfootball.com/news/592797/MLS-champion-Adi-Oliseh-has-assured-me-of-Eagles-chance CC: Forgiveness, Joseph1013, Icon4s, TheGoodJoe, Krattos, Mikron, Terzurum5, Why do we seem to give this guy less publicity after he has done so much in the MLS ![]() |

Fanendo Adi shines and shines https://mtnfootball.com/bp_images/2015/12/Samm_11_Dec_1_1.jpg MLS champion Adi - Proudly Nigerian Nigerian striker Fanendo Adi talks on his history-making MLS championship-winning season with Portland Timbers. The Interview: QUESTION: Congratulations on winning the MLS Cup, what does it mean to you? FANENDO ADI: Thank you. It means a lot to me, my family, the city of Portland, players and everybody who have one thing or the other to do with the club. Did you actually see your team winning against Columbus Crew when the final was about to start? Having beaten them in the league, we had the confidence that we could do it again. We knew it was going to be a tough and difficult game and was what we experienced in the game. We worked hard and got the goals. How was it when the final whistle was sounded and you won? It was a big win and big moment of our lives. We celebrated the feat overnight in Columbus. https://africanfootball.com//bp_images/2015/12/Samm_11_Dec_2.jpg Fanendo Adi goes for goal for Portland Timbers in the MLS. What can you say about the reception in Portland? On arrival at the airport on Tuesday, it was massive as we were welcomed by thousands of fans. I haven't witnessed such in my life. It was an unbelievable atmosphere. That was a moment the club will forever remember, it was an amazing feeling. Which moment do you cherished most in all of these? There were lots of crowd at the parade with lots of police preventing them from getting to us at some points. Seeing big fans following and appreciating us, got tears out of my eyes. What impact did the Timbers army make on match day? They made a big impact, they were so loud with their music, louder than the home fans. They confessed we have crazy fans, they kept singing and were heard throughout the game. What kept the team going throughout the season? Determination. The way the coach talked to us in the locker room motivated us in some games. He made us believe in ourselves that we can win it. He always let us know that he can't play on the pitch but we have to do that. Portland Timbers scored early goals against Columbus Crew, was that the plan? We watched their games, especially against New York City. We countered their play and it worked for us, the goals were scored and that was it. What can you say about the city of Portland? Portland is a beautiful city and a home for me. I love everything about this city. It's quiet and I love it that way. It's a lively city too with a lot of distractions but I make sure I am focused. It does rain here and I love rain. Above all the city has given me lots and my first trophy. What is the wildest thing you have witnessed on the street of Portland? There are lots - there was a day I was in my car and one guy came dressed in what I can't describe, he knocked at my door window and I laughed. I was scared. Where is your best restaurant? I hardly eat outside because my wife is the best cook. We have best food in Nigeria. The best food is pounded yam and Egusi soup. Where are you planning to have your vacation? I will go to Hawaii, then go to Nigeria to meet my family. You scored 19 goals in the just-ended season, any hope on national team call-up? I am hopeful. I have talked with the coach and he has assured me I will get my time. This is transfer time, there are rumours of interest from Italy, Mexico, England, what do you have to say on this? I have been hearing the rumours but there is nothing official yet. What's your preference for next season? I still have a contract with Portland Timbers, but we will look into any offers. What are you doing in College? I am studying computer science in college here. What or who inspired you to go to college? My grandmother inspired me to go to school for the future. http://mtnfootball.com/news/592896/Fanendo-Adi-shines-and-shines |

Chinese club Beijing Guoan interested in Mikel By Shemmy Sholabomi The Chelsea midfielder is being pursued by the Chinese giant and could earn a last big pay day if both parties reach financial agreement, Goal has learned Chinese Super League side Beijing Guoan have confirmed their interest in signing Chelsea’s John Obi Mikel, Goal has learned. It seems two other Chinese clubs are also competing for the services of the Nigeria midfielder. A senior management staff of the club, who preferred to remain anonymous, said that Mikel is eager to leave Stamford Bridge after seeing his playing time limited this season but would only do so at the right price. "The only problem we have now is his extra demand which the club could not approve at the moment," the official said. The Beijing club is offering Mikel 104,166 euros a week, a sum that is close to his current earnings at Stamford Bridge, which would bring his annual salary to five million euros. But the player, who seems to be angling for a big final pay day, is holding out for at least a million euros more. The Chelsea midfielder insists that for him to leave the Premier League club before his contract expires in 2017, he needs a weekly wage of 125, 000 euros per week and a bonus of 20,000 euros per match. Early this week, one of the brokers of the deal, player agent Jolly Okay Ogu was asked to give a final reply and also inform the midfielder of the club's decision that it would be difficult to increase his proposed salary by a million euros. Beijing Guoan already have six foreign players in their employ. The midfielders Mikel will compete against are Croatian Darko Matic, Argentine Pablo Batalla, and Korean Dac-Sung Ha. The other foreigners in the club are 25-year-old Brazilian striker Kleber, Dejan Damjanovic and Erton Fejzullahu of Sweden. With 10 games to end of the Chinese season, the club is ranked fourth having amassed 56 points from 30 matches. Their home game is played at the 66, 191 capacity Workers' Stadium. If both parties agree on financial details, the Chelsea midfielder is likely to move to China during the summer transfer window as Beijing Guoan are ready to buy off his contract with the Blues with a year left. However, Mikel’s manager John Shittu has told Goal that he does not know about the discussions with Beijing Guoan, or any other Chinese club side. “I’m not aware,” Shittu told Goal. “There will always be speculations about Mikel.” United Arab Emirates club Al Ahli tried to prise the midfielder away from Chelsea last summer but the move broke down after coach Jose Mourinho insisted he wanted Mikel as part of his squad. However, he has been finding it increasingly difficult to hold down a place in the team. http://www.goal.com/en-ng/news/4102/transfer-zone/2015/12/09/18167592/chinese-club-beijing-guoan-interested-in-mikel?ICID=HP_FA_3 |

The only thing is that I just decided not to go public with it.” His assistants Jean Louiscuito, Salisu Yusuf and Alloy Agu are yet to get their money for the past six months. One of his assistants said the Super Eagles B are being owed two match bonuses and claimed it could mar the team’s preparation for next year’s tournament in Rwanda. "If Oliseh is being owed three months and he's not talking who are we to complain about our own six months?” one of the assistants told CompleteSports. "The players are being owed two match bonuses and camping starts next week. With all this happening it won't help the team's preparations for the CHAN competition.” A top source of the NFF told Goal that there was no cause for alarm has the country’s football house has agreed to pay the national team coaches every three months. Victor Moses Out Till 2016 Biyi Akangbe West Ham winger Victor Moses have been ruled out until the New Year with hamstring injury. Moses picked up his injury in Saturday's 0-0 draw at Manchester United, and manager Slaven Bilic has ruled him out for four to six weeks. Also expected to be sidelined till the new year is defender Winston Reid who was injured in training on Wednesday and could be set for a long spell out, with the results of a scan expected on Friday. Both players injury are the latest additions to a growing casualty list at Upton Park. The Hammers have already lost summer signing Dimitri Payet and Diafra Sakho until February, while Manuel Lanzini is out for six weeks with a thigh problem suffered in training. Enner Valencia has been out for five weeks with an ankle injury but he could give Bilic a boost by being added to the squad to face Stoke on Saturday. Reacting to the news, West Ham coach Slaven Bilic, described Moses injury as a blow to the team. "Victor is out for four to six weeks. It's a blow, we have had six injuries since the Everton game. Before that we had a full squad, then Payet and Valencia were injured against Everton and now we have four muscle injuries," Bilic told reporters. "I am hoping Lanzini will be back for the Swansea game. Payet and Valencia are also looking good, we will have to wait and see." The former Croatian international called on the fit players in his squad to stick together and cover the absences. "We are now missing six very important players, but we can't complain," he said. "We need to get over it and do well with the players we do have. "We have a very good medical team here so hopefully some players will come back quicker than first expected. Of course it will be difficult without players like Lanzini, Payet and Sakho, but we played without all of them at Manchester United. "Now it is about the squad and the character of the players we have, it is time for them to step up and help the team." http://www.soccernet.com.ng/2015/12/victor-moses-out-till-2016.html |
