Orkpekyandega:Well, I have heard this name on some few ocassions.Truth is i dnt follow d MLS. Only time i watched an MLS game I was at the BBVA stadium in Houston-Texas to watch Houston Dynamos vs One other club(forgotten) that featured Ghanaian-American Freddy Adu. The league doesnt look competitive to me. But thanks to people like Orkpekyandega(got it right this time) hu take d pains to show-case our talents from all parts of the world. I dnt know how old this Ardi guy is. If he is below 25 I see a bright future for him.But note dat not every player will play for d Super Eagles. |

Orkpekyandega:Haba! Bros, You should know that we have a lot of strikers doing very well in top European leagues now. So, it's normal people don't talk about him. Although, I wish Oliseh will give him a chance to prove himself. |

forgiveness: The Publicity am talking about is not of invitation to the national team. I know for sure that we have so many striking options plying their trade in quality leagues that are better than the MLS. For some body to score 19 goals in a foreign league and also win the league should attrack a lot of fame and publicity. I expect him to be the talk of the town you know. For national team call up, he may be considered, but cementing a place is another thing due to the several options we have. Do you know that even among Sports pundits, his name still sounds new and strange? #TeamCelebrateFanendoAdi# |

Orkpekyandega:There was a time Fanendo-adi fame went viral on social media. That was when he was bought by Metalurh Donestsk from Trecin and was later loaned to Dynamo Kyvi but unfortunately he couldn't break into those teams and was later sold to a lesser team. In fact, his fame got him an invitation to play for either the under 20 or the under 23 but he could not make the cut too. From that point, I personally lost interest in his progress. |

Orkpekyandega:That will take time, Nigerians don't rate the Mls too high but his recent call up shows his good work didn't go unnoticed. If the trend of Mls players being unappreciated should stop he has to cement a spot on the super eagles thereby opening the door for the rest. |

forgiveness: Some of these Clubs are not after raising and nurturing players with bright talent. How I wish they were a bit patient with his progress. Do you know he later played for Copenhagen Fc of Denmark? He even played the Champions League match against Real Madrid of Spain where they lost 4:1 to Madrid. |

Nwofor, Umar On Target; Ikeme Can’t Stop Forest https://i1.wp.com/www.completesportsnigeria.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/ikeme.jpg?w=900 By James Agberebi: Nigerian forward Uche Nwofor scored his first league goal for Boavista in their 1-1 home draw against Estoril who had Anderson Esiti on the bench. Nwofor, whose Nigerian team-mates Gabriel Reuben and Michael Uchebo did not feature in the game, struck in the 25th minute to put Boavista 1-0 up. He was later replaced by Emmanuel Hackman in the 37th minute. In Turkey, Nigerian striker Aminu Umar also opened his goal account for Osmanlispor who beat Bursaspor 4-0 away from home. Umar scored with six minutes remaining to make it 4-0 for Osmanlispor. Other scorers for Osmanlispor were Alioune Ndiaye (brace) and Raul Andrei Rusescu. In the English Championship, Super Eagles keeper Carl Ikeme was in goal for Wolverhampton Wanderers but failed to keep a clean sheet as they played 1-1 against visiting Nottingham Forest. Ethan Ebanks-Landell gave Wolves the lead on 15 minutes before Dexter Blackstock equalized for Forest with 10 minutes left. At Ewood Park, Nigerian midfielder Hope Akpan made an appearance for Blackburn who beat Rotherham United 1-0. A Luke Hyam 30th minute own-goal, sealed the win for Blackburn. And in Belgium, Nigerian defender Wilfred Ndidi was on for 90 minutes as Genk held homers Westerlo to a 0-0 draw. Christian Obi: Oliseh Not Ripe for Super Eagles’ Job https://cdn.akamai.thisdaylive.com/0bef99d6-acf5-4e2c-9779-8fa02ba3fcd4/assets/Christian-Obi-2010.jpg?maxwidth=400&maxheight=540 To followers of the round leather game in the 80s and early 90s, the name Christian Obi was a house hold name as he stood between the sticks for the defunct Julius Berger football club of Lagos for a number of years. The former Super Eagles goalkeeper and Taraba FC goalkeeper trainer in this interview with Kunle Adewale analysed the just concluded Nigeria Premier League season, the choice of Sunday Oliseh as Super Eagles coach, his five-star performance that gave the country its first medal at the 1985 U-21 World Youth Championship and other salient issues concerning Nigerian football Sunday Oliseh might have been in charge of the Super Eagles for going to six months now, but his choice would still continue to generate discussions in the football circle for a long time and one of Oliseh’s teammates in both the national team and Julius Berger-Christian Obi had added his voice to his choice. “Oliseh was my junior at Julius Berger and the national and he was a very nice guy, but I think the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF erred in appointing him head coach of the senior national team. He should have started with any of the age grade team so as to garner experience. At best, the federation should have looked for a more experienced coach to assist him before finally taking full responsibility,” Obi noted. Many observers have praised the League Management Company, LMC, for its effort at sanitizing the Nigeria Premier League and the goalkeeper trainer of FC Taraba, also have some kind words for the Shehu Dikko-led LMC. “There has been little improvement on the side of officiating, and if the innovations introduced by the LMC could be sustained, the league would be better for it. Suspension of referees that were found wanting had helped grown the league tremendously and clubs now have the confidence to play away and win. That was why more away wins were recorded in the just concluded season than in previous seasons. It has really helped the growth of the game and it should be sustained,” the former Heartland of Owerri goalkeeper trainer said. Despite throwing open the gates of the Teslim Balogun Stadium during the recent Federation Cup final between Akwa United and Lobi Stars, the stadium was still just half filled, a thing which Obi attributed to the craze for European football by Nigerians. “Anytime the timing of European matches coincides with our local games fans will sit back in their homes to watch their favourite European games. Football administrators in this country should therefore take pain to educate and enlighten fans on the need to back their local clubs and try as-much-as possible not to fix matches such as the Federation Cup final to coincide with European league matches." Obi almost single-handedly gave Nigeria her first medal at the 1985 FIFA Under 21 World Youth Championship when he stood between the then Soviet Union and victory at the Moscow edition of the championship. He denied the Soviets a third place win by not only stopping close range shots during the course of the game but in the eventual penalty shootouts after a scoreless 120 minutes. The five feet six inches tall shot stopper saved three out of the five penalty kicks of the host to give the Flying Eagles a memorable victory. However, that feat was not the greatest memory in the footballing career of the former Adewale Bridge Boys safe hands. According to him, his greatest moment was in December of 1992 when he found the Lord. “My parents, especially my father did not want me to have anything to do with football. They would rather prefer that I face my studies squarely but I resisted all his efforts to stop me from playing the round leather game. However, I did not get to the peak of my football career before the Lord called me. "Yes, denying the Soviets of victory in the third place match of the world U-21 championship and stopping three penalties was a big moment in my football career but giving my life to Christ as a footballer was the greatest moment of my life. I gave my life to Christ in 1992 but the Lord finally arrested me in 1993. Though I tried to resist it because of the love I had for the game but it was to no avail,” he explained. When reminded that he could have as well combined the two like some players do, notably among whom is Brazilian star, Ricardo Izecson, better known as Kaka, a smiling Obi said, “I really wanted to combine the two but the Lord wanted me to be a minister, which meant I had to dump football entirely as I had to attend ministerial classes and training and as such, there was no way I could have combined the two.” The former Green Eagles goalkeeper, however, believe the 1985 Moscow team deserved something better than the bronze they won, stressing that the team was unlucky in the semi-final against eventual winner, Brazil. "I thank God that we did not come home empty handed, at least we had a bronze to show for our effort at the end of the tournament but the fact remains that we were unlucky against Brazil in the semi-finals. We even lost a penalty in the course of the game. If we had edged out the South Americans we could have gone on to beat Spain in the final. I cannot forget the spirit in the players; it was nothing to be compared with players of these days. All of us were in very high spirits and we were one in our mission, which was to win. There was no discrimination or rancor in the team; we were one body and that is saying the least.” On how he felt on his return from Moscow after a very splendid performance, the Seoul '88 Olympian said: "I just thought if I could put up such performance in Moscow, I could as well improve on it. I felt there was still some talent that had not been fully tapped in me; I felt I needed to improve on my aerial ball, which though was my strength. Ironically, my height was even more of an advantage, because I was found to deal with aerial ball better than most tall goalkeepers like late Patrick Okala, Peter Rufai, David Ngodigha, Alloy Agu and the likes. No striker dare come near me in the box when the ball was in the air. In spite of my being only five feet, six inches tall, I made sure I cut off every pullout before the arrival of any striker no matter how fast the striker is.” Asked whether he made money as a player, he said: "We were earning N150, for a home wins and N300 for an away victory. We were not playing for money but for the passion we had for the game. Though, the value of the naira then was not what it is today, but then you cannot compare it to the $10,000 or more which players of today receive as their winning bonus. So, anybody can now deduce whether I made money from playing football or not, but all the same I’m still very proud that I served the nation passionately and to the best of my ability.” Obi combines his ministry with that of coaching after he joined Heartland of Owerri as an assistant coach in 2010. He paid tribute to former England goalkeeper, Peter Shilton, whom he said was his mentor. "I learnt a lot from Shilton. He is one athlete I have so much respect for, especially for his agility and the way he controlled the defence. To me, he is one of the best goalkeepers of all time,” he confessed. Obi however regretted not knowing God earlier in his playing career because of the evil activities in the camp then. "In those days, people are always afraid to go to camp. You can’t just leave your playing boots anyhow for fear of 'juju'. We were introduced to native doctors as a way of countering some of these things. But if I had Christ in me then, I would never have visited any native doctor. If it were possible for situations to be reversed, I would have accepted Christ earlier in life,” he said. The pastor of Sports Stars Christian Fellowship International charged upcoming players to be more focused in their career and shun the use of drugs and other vices. He claimed that through his ministry, a lot of players have given their lives to Christ. The former Julius Berger of Lagos safe-hands also faulted the recent trend of laying artificial turf in our different stadia saying it does not augur well for our football and the players. “My stand against artificial turf is 100 per cent. Players’ life span on artificial turf is shorter than their counterparts that use natural grass. If you have 10 years to play and you are playing on artificial turf, you might not last up to seven years because the floor is very hard but covered with artificial grass and this affects players’ knees and ankles and it slows the movement of the players,” he said. Asked how long he hopes to carry on with his coaching career, he said it was God that asked him to return to football after he had initially dumped it for full time ministry. “If God says ‘stop’, I’ll stop.” He however said his coaching career did not in any way affect his evangelical call but rather helps him propagate the gospel. “I use my life style to propagate God’s ministry because people emulate my ways of life, just as people idolise stars. So the young stars also want to end the way I ended my football career in Christ.” Obi called for the injection of more players from the local league into the Super Eagles team, while he dispelled the notion that the local league no longer boasts the array of gifted talents like it was the case during Clemence Westerhof’s era. “When Westerhof was technical adviser of the Super Eagles, he picked players from the local league, nurtured them and turned them into stars. What these home-based players really need is exposure and if they know that they have a future in the national team they will definitely improve on their game. The same talents are still much with us waiting to be tapped. Anyone that says we don’t have such talent again is not telling the truth,” he said. On challenges faced by goal-keepers, he said: “Each goalkeeper has his own challenge, which includes organising the defence. Goalkeeping position is the most subtle component of football because there is only one goalkeeper unlike other departments of the game that has more than one man manning it. When a defender makes a mistake, his partners cover up but in the case of a goalkeeper it is always a disaster when mistakes occur.” http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/christian-obi-oliseh-not-ripe-for-super-eagles-job/227791/ |

Kate, 54, died after a battle with cancer in the United States of America on Wednesday. Emenike was part of Keshi’s successful term in the national team when he won the 2013 Nations Cup as coach and took the team to 2014 World Cup in Brazil. “I am deeply saddened by the loss of coach Stephen Keshi's wife,” said Emenike. “No one prays for this in his life time but God is the ultimate in everything. May he take comfort in the fact that he has an angel to watch over him now. “It’s obviously a tough time for him but I pray that my sympathy and heartfelt condolences bring him comfort." Lawal said Keshi should accept what has befallen him as God knows best why this happened to him. “It is really sad, but God is our creator and he knows why Keshi’s wife is no longer with us today. “I pray God will give him the courage to bear this massive loss.” http://mtnfootball.com/news/592952/Emenike-Garba-Lawal-mourn-Keshi-s-wife |

European Leagues: Top Nigerian stars to watch this weekend Imhons Erons After the highs and lows of the midweek games in the Champions League, depending on which club you retain affinity for, actions resume in the major leagues across Europe. And expectedly, several Nigerian players will be in the thick of events, chasing honours, targeting continental qualifications or attempting to avoid relegations with their various teams, as the case may be. Victor Moses is still sidelined due to injury while Victor Anichebe, Kelechi Iheanacho and John Obi Mikel are expected to continue to play bit part roles as their clubs go after their season’s objectives. Soccernet Nigeria focuses the light on the Nigerian stars considered key to their respective club’s ambitions. England, Premier League Odion Ighalo, Sunderland vs Watford The 26 year-old Nigerian striker has been involved in 11 goals (9 goals and 2 assists) in 15 games already (more than any other Hornets player in the history of the competition) and will be confident of adding to that tally this weekend when Watford travel to Sunderland. His deadly partnership with Troy Deeney upfront has yielded 42 league goals in 2015 (25 for Ighalo and 17 for Deeney), 10 more than Sunderland overall. Watford have enjoyed three away wins this campaign (a club record) and will look to the big Nigerian to help them continue that impressive form this weekend. Osaze Odemwiengie, West Ham vs. Stoke City The Nigerian international has been included in the Match Day squad by manager Mark Hughes against the 7th-placed Londoners and will expect to play some part as he continues to pick up game time after recovering from an injury that kept him out of action for several weeks. Forwards Afellay, Shaqiri, Bojan and Arnautovic were incredible in the 2-0 defeat of Manchester City last weekend and Mark Hughes is expected to keep faith with the same players that made the former champions look so ordinary. However, Osaze retains the confidence of the gaffer and will play a part at some point has Stoke seek West Ham’s scalp. Italy, Serie A Ogenyi Onazi, Lazio vs Sampdoria Lazio host Sampdoria in a late kick off on Monday hoping to bounce back after a clumsy 0-2 loss at home to defending champions Juventus in their last Serie A encounter. Onazi has only featured in five of Lazio’s fifteen games in the league but he has been ever present in Europe for the capital club, appearing six times, scoring a goal and helping them secure qualification to the knock out stages of the Europa League. 12th-placed Lazio will need the battling qualities of Ogenyi Onazi to overcome 14th-placed Sampdoria who are riding high and a mere three points adrift their hosts. France, Ligue 1 Vincent Enyeama, Lille vs Lorient On Saturday by 2pm, Vincent Enyeama’s Lille square up against FC Lorient in search of their fifth league win in 17 games. Now aged 33, the retired Nigerian goalkeeper has made 14 appearances and would have made more but for a red card he picked up earlier in the season. Lille are currently placed 13th in the league but have the third-best defence in Ligue 1 and are a whooping 25-points off top spot because of a stale attack that has only managed 11 goals all season, the worst in the top division aside bottom-placed Troyes. Belgium, Jupiler League Imoh Ezekiel, RSC Anderlecht vs KV Oostende The 22 year-old Nigerian, who was Belgian star man last year, is not having the best of times this season having only scored 2 goals in 15 league games and just the solitary strike in Europe. He would however be focused on improving his stats when RSC Anderlecht entertain KV Oostende on Sunday. It’s a battle between third and fourth (Anderlecht have played a game less), with the home side knowing a win will catapult them above the high-flying Oostende team that have secured more wins in the league than everyone else except Club Brugge. Simon Moses, St. Truidense VV vs. KAA Gent Champions League surprise package, KAA Gent return to league actions in an away tie with Truidense and will hope that the Nigerian repeat his successful midweek exploits. Simon Moses, 20, was instrumental in the Belgian side 2-1 defeat of Zenit St Petersburg and progress to the knockout phase of Europe’s biggest club competition at the expense of traditional European power horses, Valencia and Lyon. The Nigerian midfielder assisted both goals. KAA Gent are joint top of the Belgium Pro League having lost just once in 18 matches played so far. http://www.soccernet.com.ng/2015/12/european-leagues-top-nigerian-stars-to.html |

Oshaniwa is was one of the four arrivals at the Tynecastle in the summer and has established himself as key member in the squad ahead home-grown defender Jordan McGhee at the club which is sitting third in the Scottish Premiership League log. “For all the players that have come in from abroad, it’s been a period of adapting to life in Scotland,” he said. “We’re still to see the best of them all. I expect Juwon to get better and I expect Blazej to get better." Neilson has no doubts that the Nigerian international will soon start to show why Hearts were so excited about the prospect of signing him in the summer. “I’ve been pleased with Juwon,” said the head coach. “He hit the ground running at first then we’ve had to manage him through it over the past few months. The last couple of weeks, when the weather’s been really bad, have been quite difficult for Juwon to adapt to. He’s come from Israel, where the football’s a lot slower and the weather’s a lot better. “Here he’s had to get used to the rough and tumble. The best is definitely still to come from him.” Neilson told Edinburgh News. Meanwhile, Oshaniwa has been picked by Neilson ahead of Saturday's Ladbrokes Premiership trip to Aberdeen. Ighalo hits goal no.10 as Iheanacho wins match for Man City In the lunchtime kickoff, Everton were held to a 1 - 1 draw by Norwich City at Carrow Road, with England international Ross Barkley suiting up for the Toffees for the 16th time this season. The midfielder got replaced in the 76th minute. Super Eagles strikers Victor Moses (West Ham ) and Peter Odemwingie (Stoke City) were not available for selection when their teams faced off at Boleyn Ground due to hamstring injuries. It ended goalless. Kelechi Iheanacho has now racked up 160 minutes of game time in the Premier League after he played the last six minutes of Manchester City’s 2 - 1 victory over Swansea City. He scored a last - minute winner for The Citizens. Odion Ighalo tallied his tenth goal of the season and Watford’s only goal in their 1 - 0 away win over Sunderland, their third straight victory in the EPL. The attacker, who found the net in the 4th minute, is the first Watford player to score 10 goals in the Premier League. http://www.soccernet.com.ng/2015/12/ighalo-hits-goal-no10-as-iheanacho-wins.html?m=1 |

Former Nigeria international Shola Ameobi was handed a starting berth for the sixth time this season by Bolton Wanderers coach Neil Lennon, whereas defender Derik Osede was an unused substitute. Nigerian striker to travel with Arsenal squad By Randy Osae Arsene Wenger is set to include Alex Iwobi in the squad which travels to Birmingham on Sunday for the clash with Aston Villa. Injuries to attacking options Alexis Sanchez, Santi Cazorla, Danny Welbeck, Jack Wilshere and Tomas Rosicky have forced the Arsenal boss to dip into the club’s youth ranks for cover this season. Youngsters Alex Iwobi, Jeff Reine-Adelaide, Krystian Bielik, Chris Willock, Julio Pleguezuelo, Donyell Malen, Kaylen Hinds, Stephy Mavididi and goalkeeper Matt Macey well all called up to train with the Gunners’ first team on Saturday ahead of the league clash with Aston Villa. Despite the returns of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Theo Walcott, Wenger is still short of forwards to be named on the bench on Sunday. Therefore, Alex Iwobi and Jeff Reine-Adelaide are again in contention to be included in the 18-man squad to visit Villa Park. Iwobi is tipped to travel with the first team while there is chance for Reine-Adelaide, a player currently regaining his fitness after returning from a head injury a week ago. A notable absentee during Saturday’s training session was Mesut Ozil who has now registered 12 assists in the Premier League this season. The German midfielder was allowed to have a rest as a precaution after showing signs of a calf problem ahead of the Olympiakos game earlier this week. www.redlondon.net/2015/12/nigerian-striker-to-travel-with-arsenal-squad/ |

IKEME – ‘DON’T COMPARE ME WITH ENYAMA’ With four impressive games for Super Eagles of Nigeria, Carl Onuora Ikeme believes his renaissance as Wolverhampton Wanderers No 1, goalkeeper, is nearly a done deal. Born to Nigerian parents, he has lived in Sutton Coldfield, U.K as infant, and rose from Wolves academy to the senior team. Ikeme, 29, though, has kept clean slate in difficult matches against Tanzania and Swaziland playing for Nigeria; he has been kept on the bench by club manager, Kenny Jackett following injury and a drop in form. Reacting to query about his present state at his club, he said: “We are like a close-knit family and my colleagues have been wishing me well before and after national assignment in Nigeria. It is a good thing for me and it is influencing positively in my approach to training.” He added that it is a matter of time before coming back to full responsibility as top keeper for Wolves: “Jackett was responsible for the club’s turn around and he’s somebody that will tell you as it is; I’m picking up well and he has said if I respond well in training, he would give me my opportunity. I know it will come soon.” Ikeme speaks more on Super Eagles, coming back home more regularly and finding his groove again in this interview conducted via electronic mail with TAIWO ALIMI. Excerpts… Learning the rope at Wolverhampton Wanderers I guess I owe my career to Wolves. I have been here all my life. When I first came to the club at 14 or 15, Stowell was the goalkeeper coach at the time. Then I started to train with the pros, Matt Murray and Michael Oakes were in charge then and it was brilliant for me because I learnt so much off them. I learned a lot off Oaksey and worked closely with Matty who was a massive help. I used to really enjoy watching him play. He was someone I closely monitored. Then there’s Marcus Hahnemann and Wayne Hennessey – who’s obviously still here – and Dorus de Vries who has left. It’s incredible really that one club could have so many good keepers and I learnt something from all of them. Can I do as well as them? It’s in my hand. All I can do is what I’ve always done. Work hard and see where it takes me. Relationship with Coach Kenny Jackett Coach Jackett talked about how important it was to reconnect with our fans when he first arrived and at first, I wasn’t quite sure what he was on about, but now I can understand exactly what he meant. Our relationship had broken down over time for one reason or another but as long as fans see the young lads coming through they can be a little bit more forgiving because they can see that everyone is trying. Jackett helped us to get back the connection and it has been helping us. It was the clincher for the turnaround. They can see everyone is giving their all and giving their best for the team and the club. We are getting a response. On the pitch, we have set a platform for ourselves. We’ve played well so far and shown a lot of resolve. Growing to maturity I am 29 with wonderful wife and two kids. I feel young as a goalkeeper yet one of the senior members of the club. At times, it makes you stop and think. When you think of ‘senior pros’ I always think of the likes of Sam Ricketts even though he’s only a couple of years older than me. When you think about it, there’s me (born in June ’86), Richard Stearman, 28, Kevin Doyle, 32, and Sam Rickett, 34. We are the senior players in the changing room. I still feel pretty young but it has changed. It is good at the same time though because it has given me a sense of responsibility. I like helping the young lads. I like them to do well and progress. We’ve got some really good young lads coming through. I’ve been in their shoes trying to make it into the team, you want to see them flourish, and that’s what they’re doing at the minute. Losing his shirt to Hennessey Wolves have been blessed with great goalkeepers over time. At a time, Wayne Hennessey was favoured until he was loaned to Yeovil to get some games under his belt. I was doing fine until I broke my hand against Bristol City. I had my hand injury and for the first few weeks after coming back pre-season wasn’t particularly great for me. I was struggling a bit, to be honest. I got through that and worked hard. I don’t think anyone really knew that I was in pain at the time because I’d not really touched a ball since it happened. I would just mask it and put a bit of a brave face on. Everyone wants to play and it is just unfortunate that there is just the one (goalkeeper) position. I just have to keep my head down and work as hard as I could and as fit as I could. I’m picking up well and he (Jackett) said if I respond well in training, he would give me my opportunity. I know it will come soon’. Click the link below for more............ thenationonlineng.net/ikeme-dont-compare-me-with-enyama/ |

Emenike relishes new found scoring form AL Ain striker Emmanuel Emenike has said he has never doubted his ability to score goals despite criticisms. And the Fenerbahce loanee said he is looking forward to end the year on a higher note after scoring two goals against Al Shaab in a 4-2 win on Friday. The former Spartak Moscow striker has been criticised for going through a rough patch, but seems he has been able to block out the critics to concentrate on his performance and score goals after he returned from injury. “I always believe in what I can do most, I don’t doubt myself and it has always worked for me,” Emenike said.“My last goal at home against Al Ahli has really boosted my spirit and I am building on it with these two goals. “Scoring goals is my responsibility but my bigger priority is to contribute to the team. “We are playing well every week, it’s a sign of good form and hopefully working towards being champions again. But it’s not all about an individual but everybody in the team.” “Every game is important, we need more points before the year runs out, it will enable us to resume with high confidence to continue from where we stopped, and for me, I aim to end it on high and resume with more goals next year,” he noted. thenationonlineng.net/emenike-relishes-newfound-scoring-form/ |

Nigeria: I'll Step On Toes, Dalung Warns NFF https://nationalmirroronline.net/new/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/Minister-of-Youth-and-Sports-Mr.-Solomon-Dalong.jpg Youth and Sports minister Solomon Dalung has called on the Nigeria Football Federation to pay all outstanding salaries and allowances owed to coaches and players before the Christmas celebrations. The NFF recently declared itself broke and unable to meet its obligations to staff and the national teams under its scope. But Dalung who was speaking at the 71st congress of the Nigeria Football Federation in Abuja, stated that crisis should not be perpetual in Nigeria football administration. He noted that the successes brought by the Golden Eaglets and the Nigeria Under-23 team recently should be built upon so that crisis can be avoided. " I have heard series of complaints from players and coaches of how their salaries and allowances were not paid. From previous reports of crisis from the players camp, the issue has always been that officials took players money! Please pay them their money. An angel said to the three wise men behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy. This is Christmas season. Bring glad tidings to the players. Pay them all outstanding bonuses and allowances before Christmas". "However, I keep asking myself, after all the victories, what is behind the crisis in the NFF. " I want to borrow this phrase from Amaju. He said he will have to step on toes to move Nigeria's football forward. I will trample on toes . But crises should never be perpetual. The successes we are experiencing have erased these crises." Dalung, urged the Amaju Pinnick led board of NFF to work harder and take Nigeria football to new heights, and also continue to administer football with justice and fairness. Pinnick in his address gave kudos to the federal government under President Muhammadu Buhari for all the support it gave to the federation in the outgoing year. However, he said his board has recorded a lot of achievements despite the dwindling resources including the recent successes of the national U-17 and U-23 teams who won the FIFA cadet championship and the African championship respectively. He also stated that his board has further improved the standard of football in Nigeria with the numerous capacity building activities organized for the referees and coaches by the federation in conjunction with some of its partners. While reacting on the issue of allowances due to players and coaches, Pinnick said efforts are being made to pay them even as he argued that it is not a peculiar situation because of the prevailing economic reality in the country. http://allafrica.com/stories/201512170377.html |

NFF to build soccer houses in 36 states 0 https://sunnewsonline.com/new/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/Dalung-Pinnick-702x336.jpg THE congress of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) rose from its annual general assembly yesterday in Abuja with a resolve to build football houses in all the 36 states of the federation. The Amaju Pinnick-led soccer federation also vowed to protect the welfare of players plying their trade in the nation’s domestic league with the enactment of a new regulation. The NFF which reeled out a 10 point communiqué posted on its official website disclosed that Osun, Nasarawa and Jigawa states would be the first beneficiaries of her football house agenda tagged the NFF Goal Project. The communiqué read in part: “Congress approved the NFF Goal Project as proposed by the Executive Committee. The project will see the NFF build modest Football Houses for the State FAs, beginning with Jigawa, Osun and Nasarawa States. States that already have Football Houses would have their structures upgraded….In view of the unsavory situation of some Clubs perpetually owing players’ salaries and allowances in the just concluded League Season, Congress empowered the Executive Committee to enact regulations to protect the welfare of players and officials in the Nigeria League.” Apparently still basking in the euphoria of the country’s exploits in age grade soccer tournaments, the Congress moved to protect young Nigerian players as it empowered the executive committee to enact a regulation for the protection of players of age grade National Teams and the establishment of a Young Players Development Foundation. The body while thanking the nation’s number one citizen, President Muhammadu Buhari and sports minister Solomon Dalung for their support , passed a vote of confidence on the leadership of Nigeria Football Federation headed by Mr. Amaju Melvin Pinnick. Sports minister, Dalung while addressing the congress which took place at the Abuja Hilton hotel, said he hopes the crisis rocking Nigerian football would no longer rear its ugly head following the recent successes posted by the country at the international scene, even as he charged the NFF to ensure all the national coaches are paid before Christmas. “The crises in Nigeria football have all been erased by the recent successes, and I therefore earnestly urge you all to work in unity and for the good of Nigeria football and the Nigeria nation… I have received a Save our Soul (SOS) message from our coaches and players, appealing to me as a father to beg the federation to source for funds to settle their outstanding bonuses and allowances. I hope the NFFwill do so before Christmas. Help them to celebrate the Christmas in peace. Draw my attention to where there are challenges,” Dalung stated. http://sunnewsonline.com/new/nff-to-build-soccer-houses-in-36-states/? |

Anthony Ujah https://thesetpieces.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/ujah.png By Archie Rhind-Tutt Werder Bremen striker Anthony Ujah says that he’s the real victim of the row between his new club and his former side Cologne. The Nigerian had been a cult hero in Cologne before he left under a cloud last summer. English fans might even remember his famed celebrations last season with the club’s goat mascot, Hennes VIII, but his subsequent move to fellow Bremen angered Cologne’s fans. Ujah is adamant that the premature release of a picture by Werder Bremen, a month before the end of the season and with Cologne still not assured of their place in the Bundesliga, aggravated the situation. On the club’s Instagram account, the striker was pictured standing under a sign that read with “100% Werder”. “I know I cannot turn back the hands of time and I cannot change anything but it all started with this picture,” says Ujah. “[It] put me in a very difficult scene which is not my decision. If I had the power, I can change it but I cannot change it now, so I can understand that they [the Cologne fans] have to direct their anger to someone and I am the only one who’s in the middle – I’m the victim in this.” Ujah continues: “I just have to accept it and take it as it comes but deep down in my heart, I have no intention of disrespecting the fans or the public of Cologne.” The striker also admits that the two games against Cologne since his departure in July haven’t helped. Ujah scored the winner in their second round DFB Cup match in October and last weekend, they met once again. With the game at 1-0, he won a contentious penalty for Werder Bremen – a spot kick that Ujah then took and had saved by his ex-colleague Timo Horn. The game finished 1-1 but the controversy from that penalty has continued with another former teammate, Dominic Maroh. Speaking to Cologne tabloid EXPRESS, Maroh said Ujah had told him that he would have admitted it was not a penalty, had the referee asked him. Ujah though denied this on Saturday and the argument with Maroh has carried on in the German press ever since. Yet, it is the breakdown in his rapport with Cologne that disappoints Ujah the most. “It hurts so badly to know that my relationship with Cologne is broken. Everyone who knows me very well and is close to me knows how much it hurts. There are players who make a move that don’t care what the people think.” Ujah explains: “It matters to me but things keep happening and putting me in a more difficult position. Like with the goal against them in the cup and with the situation last weekend about the penalty and everything – this is nothing I ever wished for.” Now, the Nigerian striker says at Werder Bremen, he’s the happiest he’s been in his football career. It showed too on Wednesday night as he scored his tenth goal of the season in their surprise 4-3 victory at Gladbach in the DFB-Cup. “The trainer team, my team-mates, the fans – they all trust me. That for me is very, very important.” The team’s form in the Bundesliga has been poor though with Bremen just a point above the bottom three after two wins in their last twelve games. Still, Ujah has defended coach Viktor Skripnik, saying he that has the backing of all the players in the dressing room. “He’s the reason why I’m here. I had a talk with him and [he has] everything I always wanted from a trainer which is the trust and to understand the way I play because I still have a lot to learn.” As for his own situation, Ujah is now keen to move on with his career at the club. “I just need to look forward and just keep going. I knew the day I made the decision to leave Cologne that there would be a lot of anger and disappointment because I know how much they loved me there. At the moment, they seem very angry but I’m under contract here and I’m going to have do my job.” thesetpieces.com/interviews/anthony-ujah-interview/ |

Etebo, Daniel good enough for Eagles – Chukwu, Erico Idris Adesina Christian Chukwu and Joe Erico have said Warri Wolves forward, Oghenekaro Etebo, and Enugu Rangers goalkeeper, Emmanuel Daniel, will help the Super Eagles if they are included in the Rwanda 2016 Championship of African Nations squad. Etebo was the highest goalscorer at the 2015 CAF Under-23 Africa Cup of Nations in Senegal. Etebo was celebrated for his performance in each game at the tournament. Chukwu told our correspondent, “He is a player that has good ability on the ball and I believe he will make an impact if he is given a chance. “I know that coach Sunday Oliseh watched the Under-23 team’s performance at the tournament in Senegal and would have noted down players for invitation to the Super Eagles. If he can invite Etebo, it will be good for the team.” Former Eagles assistant coach Erico said Daniel could break into the senior national team if given a chance to play. He said, “Daniel has sharp reflexes and a good sense of ball judgment. Being a goalkeeper behind a leaky defence is a big task and he did the job well. “He was a part of the reason why Nigeria won the Under- 23 tournament in Senegal. He will be a good addition to the Eagles if he is invited.” Chukwu also praised the team’s resilience, saying they were worthy winners of the trophy. He said, “The team have the character of champions. They learned from their mistakes and got better with each match. “They will challenge for Olympic gold if some changes are made to their weak areas and the squad strengthened.” www.punchng.com/etebo-daniel-good-enough-for-eagles-chukwu-erico/ |
