Much ado about nothing from both the Igbo commenters and Seun on this thread.

The truth is, the inherent hate, bigotry and the glaring attempt at gagging the Igbos on this forum by Seun with this thread means nothing and will amount to nothing. Before Seun or NL was born, Biafra has been in existence and will continue to be in existence, no matter the act of hate by anybody. The Igbo commenters on this thread disappointed me with their agitation at Seun's bigotry coz for us the old members, we all know there's no freedom of speech on NL from the mods to the owner. Seun runs this place like a dictator since 2012 when I was a guest so this draconian rule didn't surprise me.

NL can't kill the messengers nor the message, it can only limit it to NL only, there are hundreds of dailies carrying the Biafra news and that allow people to speak their minds without fear of a ban, so why the tantrums from the Igbo NLers? Biafra will come to pass no matter the hate, it might
take years, but it'll come to fruition. It's a matter of when not how.

I was born a Biafran and will die one, so a rule on NL changes nothing for me or the millions of Igbos out there in the real world pursuing this movement. So y'all quit the
bytching and allow Seun to make his rules as he deems fit, it changes nothing about the Biafrans!!

Self determination is a right not a privilege. Irrespective of our own opinion, promotion of such right shouldn't be toyed with. Nairaland should be known as the site that allows people express themselves...

The right to self-determination is never illegitimate anywhere. In fact, it is illegitimate to deny a people such right. Biafra is not a terrorist group nor an outlawed group. It is a name that a group of people choose to call themselves. Several other groups of similar interest abound like the Catalunya, Western Sahara and even Palestine. Equating the concept of biafra with terrorists group is faulty.

That said, please do understand that some of us are AGAINST the methodology of IPOB for being inciteful and employing illegitimate tool. But that doesn't make Biafra as a concept illegitimate. Truly, I don't share in Biafra ideology but at the same time it doesn't make it illegitimate. Allow these people to express themselves but censor hateful and inciteful content. This is exactly what Youtube, Facebook, twitter and other social network are doing. You don't gag views because some promoters employ uncivilised tool.

I honestly look forward to the moment where I'll be opportuned to engage promoters of Biafra in healthy and intellectual debate. That's what a society need.

For the record, nobody is happy with the present structure of Nigeria. As a Niger Deltan from Rivers state, our demand for True Federalism and fiscal autonomy is yet to see the light of day. Every other groups have their own unmet demands and feel marginalised...Including the North

When Ojukwu declared Biafra, Nairaland or Internet was not in Nigeria, so I fail to understand why some people think a hateful rule against my tribe can change anything. There are hundreds of other media outlets out there so my fellow Biafrans and supporters of freedom of speech should take a chill pill. There's NEVER been freedom of speech on NL and there will NEVER be one. This is Seun's business and irrespective of his disgusting rule, he has the right to do so. It changes nothing coz Biafra don't exist on NL and hence can't be stopped by a bitter rule.


If more than 30 years after millions of Biafran children, fathers, mothers, brothers and sisters were killed in the Civil war, the Biafra flame burning brightly in the mind of the Igbos all over the globe couldn't be quenched, I wonder how a hateful rule on a forum can do that. Y'all take a chill pill and allow Seun run his business how he deems fit, it's his site and his right; at the end of the day, his hate for the Igbos' self-determination changes NOTHING, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!!

1. In many advanced democracies especially in nearly all of europe, they have laws on their books against hate and defamatory speech, incitement and promotion of violence which is what the lawless biafra agitators do on NL all day and everyday on NL.


2. FB is a global online platform, but they don't tolerate or allow hate speech and incitement on FB so why should NL allow you to promote such ugliness.?

3. In Canada, you get 2-14 years in prison for hate and incitement.

4. In South Africa, hate speech (along with incitement to violence and propaganda for war) is specifically excluded from protection of free speech in the Constitution.

5. Sweden prohibits hate speech, and defines it as publicly making statements that threaten or express disrespect for an ethnic group or similar group regarding their race, skin colour, national or ethnic origin, faith, or sexual orientation

6. In the United Kingdom, several statutes criminalize hate speech against several categories of persons. The statutes forbid communication which is hateful, threatening, abusive, or insulting and which targets a person on account of skin colour, race, disability, nationality (including citizenship), ethnic or national origin, religion, or sexual orientation. The penalties for hate speech include fines, imprisonment, or both.


Again, freedom of speech is not absolute and it doesn't arrogate to you the right to hate, incite and promote violence against other people.

Any rule that tramples on my human rights which the constitution is not even against, is a hateful rule to me, it's as simple as that. And can you show me where I was against Seun running his biz as he pleases? Did you read my post at all? Not all Igbos want Biafra and so what? trust me...a year ago, most of them could care less about a sovereign state. We are all agitated and disturbed by the current state of our country but we are at least trying to make it work....TOGETHER!.

Most of them oldies who genuinely had a thing for Ojukwu & his cronies aren't on NL. the nuisance we're facing here are mostly young adults who just find the notion of secession alluring.

I understand ur angle,along with TonyeBarcanista about freedom of speech and all but I'm honestly with seun on this one. It's his forum & he doesn't want it being used as a propaganda-spitting machine.....So he has every right to ban the promotion of a cause that might turn out to be a genuine threat to national security.
