Engine Overhauling Center In Nigeria??? by alatbaba1(op): 11:50pm On Dec 14, 2015
I'm an engineering student about to graduate. I did some work on aircraft engines both piston and jet engines. Both engine can be overhauled. Especially piston engines. I saw an overhauling center. Although the center was closed due to most aircraft uses jet engines now. Just light trainer aircraft that uses piston engines and some military aircraft. I was made to understand that a piston engine can be overhauled and restored to near company standard or even company standard. I was thinking of having a center like that where i can overhaul car engines instead of buying new or second hand engines. @siena, @Ikenna351, @ seu.n

nice concept, best for tractors and bigger trucks. but I won't overhaul any car engine for two reasons in Nigeria
1. 99.9 % fake autoparts in open markets.
2. even if original parts available, the cost is almost 70% of tokunbo engine(most cars) with lesser risk.

To me ooo, the cost of overhauling an engine is not almost 70% the cost of tokunbo engine, depending on the heavy parts that may need to be brought in from overseas via courier or shipping agents, the cost is usually several times the cost of tokunbo engines.

But honest to goodness with that sort of experience, i would love to have your contacts because who knows, maybe you are the kind of guy with the sort of experience I have been looking for, am sending you a PM

Some engine are might not require full overhaul. It might be valve, rings, or cam shaft timing or the accessories end. Hence might not require huge money to fix. Instead of dumping the engine. Some engine are expensive to get tokunbo and sometime they might not fit in perfectly on the engine seat. But I totally agree with you on 99.9% of autoparts are fake. But that is not an issue. I can always import original parts.

Nice initiatives ,dont let anybody discourage out of your dream ,every skill has it own market.
Skilled professional engine overhauling center is virtually non-existence in this part of this world ,it is another sector of automobile repair industry that remained untapped . i will even advice that you guide your dream jealously.
Your market is not the common cars (toyotas ,hondas etc ) on the street but the high ends ones and the classics ,also you will have to invest in specials tools
Call my number @ my signature ,let rub minds .I also also have equipment to showcase

Some engines can be over hauled , the trick is to find a competent mechanic who can do the job, they are becoming fewer by the day>

I owned a 1989 Nissan bluebird years ago whose engine was smoking, I decided to ring it, I met a good mechanic to do the job, I bought new set of rings, main bearings, the crankshaft was cut from standard to a smaller gauge and my cylinders were re-bored.
Had run the engine for a week for the parts to smoothen up after a a month the car was ok, water even came out of the exhaust like a new engine.

Not all engines accept rings, the new generation of nissan products arent easy to ring and may not last, I also notice that cast iron engines are easier to overhaul than aluminum engines.

You will have to do research on finding a good mechanic to do your overhauling, overhauling can be the only option if you cant find a replacement engine in the market.

I disagree with that ascertion on newer Nissan Engines. My 2000 nissan Almera engine was over hauled and I can tell you, a perfect Job was done in zaria. Cost me an arm and a leg took it for a 300+km journey straight up and it performed like a bugatti without leash. Doesn't smoke and doesn't short Oil. The key is to find an expert with experience.
