BY SAHARAREPORTERS, NEW YORK DEC 15, 2015 A source at Kuje Prison in Abuja told SaharaReporters that detained owner of African Independent Television (AIT), Raymond Dokpesi, was being held in an office at the prison in order to avoid the possibility of his being assaulted by inmates at the facility. Mr. Dokpesi is being held at Kuje Prison pending the time he meets his bail conditions. “Chief Dokpesi arrived at Kuje Prison at 4.55 p.m. yesterday and was taken straight to the office of the officer in charge,” said our source. Justice Gabriel Kolawole had granted bail to the AIT proprietor, but ordered him remanded in prison until he meets bail conditions. The conditions include two sureties at N200 million each. Our source stated that inmates at the prison were expected when they learned that Mr. Dokpesi would be spending some time at the prison. “Upon sighting Chief Dokpesi, most of the inmates became anxious to see him,” said the source. He added: “But we decided to keep him in the office of the officer-in-charge to prevent the prisoners possibly hurting him. That’s why we are shielding him from [the inmates].” Our source disclosed that Mr. Dokpesi seemed downcast when he was brought into the prison. The AIT proprietor is standing trial on a six-count charge of money laundering and other fraud-related crimes. Prosecutors allege that he received N2.1 billion from former National Security Adviser (NSA), Sambo Dasuki, in order to air presidential campaign material for former President Goodluck Jonathan of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Mr. Dokpesi is standing trial alongside his firm, DAAR Investment and Holdings Ltd, corporate owners of AIT and Raypower FM, a radio station. http://saharareporters.com/2015/12/15/dokpesi-shielded-detention-avert-assault-inmates |

Like Madcow would say Jimoh and his friends are waiting to attend to his an.al cavity If Dokpesi has the audacity and confidence to personally take N2.1 Billion and counting that belongs to over 170 million people, how can you be scared of 170 prison inmates? Dokpesi is a strong man, he should use this opportunity to show us that he is the true son of his father and not a coward that has to stay in a prison office Waiting for Ekpas to defend the fat animal |

Who will be happier ? His workers whom he doesn't pay regularly or the toes he stepped on,or Jonathan who gave him money and yet he had the effontery to say PDP's greatest mistake was fielding him ? |

Government should be mindful how it plays the game of MANIPULATION it may BACKFIRE and the whole essence of the CHANGE would be lost. From the Op, reading in between the lines its clear nothing happened, however, its good we advise ourselves that the revelation that may come from an OPEN COURT trial may destroy the intelligence community, and we also pray that it does not shake the confidence of Nigerians. |

Okanokan:That was why the government wanted a secret trial because of the intelligence involved. But dasuki had other ideas. He wanted it in the full glare of the world so that confidence in our intelligence community should be lost and probably cause anarchy and choas in the process |

The officer in charge of that prison must be removed! What kind of preferential treatment is this? Who is better? Dokpesi who collected the money meant to save lives of Soldiers and civilian in the North East? Or the petty thieves and single murderers who are inside the prison? Imagine! putting him in an office? By doing that he is assuming he will not go to jail for his crimes. If he is sentenced to 10 years will he spend it in that same office? That officer has just subverted the course of the law because he has been bribed or promised a bribe. And that is corruption! |

koxyz:Go and tell that to Benny madoff in jail for 150 years. I'm sure if he is in nigeria, he would have been given an office in the prison to spend his 150yrs jail time. Nigerians just love to excuse their looters. And with this mindset, this country can never change, because the elite will never fear the justice system and the jail. They know an office is waiting for them there! Nonsense! |

If at all this is true, then it's a shame on whoever is in charge at Kuje prison. But then again, we need to look at the situation with all fairness and sincerity of heart, Dopkesi may not survive the attack or assault from prison mates if put in there with them. And we're very much interested in getting to the root of this matter than having these thieves die at this point. The EFCC is not done with Dokpesi and he knows this, let them give him all the preferential treatment till thy kingdom come, it will still go down into the record books that Dokpesi was remanded in prison in the 2015, when Buhari thumped Jonathan and the PDP. That Dokpesi is in prison is enough. Anywhere within the premises, and as long as he's not in the staff quarters (that's if they have one), then I'm comfortable. Dokpesi may celebrate his Christmas in that prison with the bail conditions. I don't see him coming out easily. |
| Re: Dokpesi Shielded In Detention To Avert Assault By Inmates by Sanchez01: 4:53am On Dec 16, 2015 |
Pangea:Madoff and Dokpesi are not the same yet, only a matter of time. He is only remanded and it's proper for him to be shielded since the inmates are calling for his butt-hole. To be candid, most of all would like to see Dokpesi and the other thieves suffer but I think it's better for us to just calm our frayed nerves and expect the worse for Dokpesi ![]() Joseph was the head of all the slaves in the house of Potiphar, never made him special; he was still a slave. And that Dokpesi sleeps in an office in Kuje prison does not make him any special; he's still in prison. |

This is an injustice! Why would he be treated differently? What's d difference between Raymond Dokpesi and other inmates? There should be no preferential treatment. A thief is a thief and must be treated as one. |

Sanchez01:You people still don't understand What is the essence of prison? It's to reform and to deter! Even if the prisoners are dangerous, Don't they have a solitary or something where they can put him? Putting him in that office is a big shame! If you are the one will they accord you thesame treatment? The law should never be seen as this obscenely selective! |
| Re: Dokpesi Shielded In Detention To Avert Assault By Inmates by Sanchez01: 5:15am On Dec 16, 2015 |
Pangea:Pangea, I understand where you're coming from but then again, we need to understand that he has not been sentenced yet but remanded and I'm sure you'd want to agree with me that they're not the same. Of a truth, a commoner would not be given the grace to enjoy an office like Dokpesi has been given. Don't be quick to point at the law here. The law played it's part, that some elements within the prison have deemed it fit to give him an office, does not make them the law. Take it or leave it, Dokpesi is a known personality and should not be brought to the bearest minimum just because he's remanded. We're fasting and praying for a lenthy prison time for him by the time the EFCC is done with him. I saw this coming and I'm not in any way surprised. Even the officials that have given him an office to sleep will soon complain and treat him as a common man when nobody comes forward to take his bail. It's only a matter of time. Perhaps government officials within the prison section may visit Kuje today to verify if the claim is true and if it is, the head or whoever call the shots at Kuje would be made to answer. Let's not submit the butt of one high chief into the hands of unrepentant inmates to play with yet, at least not for now. It's only a matter of time. |
