The army according to the video I saw did better than tear gas and rubber bullets, they were practically begging them to disperse.
Boko haram is killing them and some fools are blocking their way and wielding machetes in their faces where in the whole planet is this acceptable?
According to the video I saw, the Shi'ite did not make any attempt to use sticks or throw any projectile at the army, they only refuse to leave the road. That is civil disobedience and genocide should not be the penalty, to the extent of going to destroy their base after the initial confrontation. Human rights is dead in this country. Our commander in chief must make a statement in person on this issue, he shouldn't dare use a spokesman cos we did not elect a spokesman for president.

bro how do u people reason? Did u take time to watch the video? Didn't u see the machetes those guys were holding? How on earth will u call them unarmed protesters? Who even gave them right to block a fg road?
bro how do u people accept killings of over 500 people undecided
Did you watch the other part where there are running but the soldiers are chasing them and kill and shooting anybody that they see on the street and even went to the extent of burning homes and destroying properties undecided

How did the white people deal with protest like this and let you will hear minimum amount of casualty!

Bros not everything will result in killings.

In a war! Unless the person shoot or even hit a soldier, that's where you will engage, but the sect didn't hit or do anything that require that amount of killing

Don't think barbaric

I think the person below me; that reply my comment was way below my understanding and how things run! Needless to argue with you based on this issue; Go watch the video that is trendy and make an objective stand. i ask yu this salient question; if yur family is murdered with cold blood yu will understand the scenario better than now because obviously yu are blinded or yu chose to be blinded either of the two bro....
My family wouldn't dare the army. We wouldn't wield weapons in challenge against the army. We will not rise against the army of a sovereign nation especially on matters as trivial as right of way on a road built buy the government; a public road.
Be reasonable and critical, stop thinking within the box - open up your mind.

The army to carry rubber bullets. So if they run into an ambush they would fire rubber bullets while their attackers would be firing live bullets.
This makes a lot of sense

So they ATEMPTEDto assassinate the chief of army staff ?
But the video on this issue only show the COAS himself arguing with those protesters who were shouting allahu. Akbar and non of them ( in the video ) possed anything above sticks ..IIt would not have remove anything from Buratai if he simply direct his convoy to turn and take a different route as Zaria has very many short cuts to navigate to his destination
Truth is that our soldiers of today are Facebook soldiers they get scared at the least provocation they are mainly peopled by cowards no doubt !
They had machetes in the video! Go watch the video again. Also the video I watched did not show why soldiers started shooting. Eye witnesses said a gunshot was heard and the soldiers started shooting them. That was why NA claimed assassination attempt. Someone must be on a suicide mission to confront Nigerian Army with any kind of weapon.

WHAT THE VIDEO SHOWS CLEARLY

People have been sending me the video of the road incident between the Army and the Shia group and i want to say thanks, i have since seen it.

The facts in this video are:

1. There was NO attempt to assassinate the COAS. In short there were extensive discuss between those who unlawfully blocked the road and himself and the spokesman both of whom were very humble but later lost their temper understandably.

2. Up until the video magically jumped to when the road was clear, no one tried to lay hand on the Chief of Army Staff or any of his men. The assassination attempt just did not happen in the video. Why will the military cut the actual attempt to reach the COAS when that is their argument exactly?

Or is it that argument and shouting of slogans that is termed assassination attempt on a Generalhuh?

3. As soon as the Spokesman came down to pacify the youths some soldiers were already positioning to take shots and the man had to scream on top of his voice "don't shot, don't shot. we just want to pass".

4. There was no gun in sight from the protesters. The only people holding guns, and rightfully so, was the army.

5. Unlike the picture of "they attacked me" being created there was no stoning, no attack, just blocking of the road (which of course was wrong and illegal).

6. Just as the Army Chief told his boys "don't shot". One of the leader of the protesters is seen turning back and gesturing that everyone calms down. The picture of they were out to kill the soldier is just a lie. This was a disagreement during which the youths were unruly and lawless just like the student union when they block federal roads.

7. The persons who blocked the road were not exceptionally big and armed. They were youths without body built who carried mostly sticks, with fewer catapults and i only spotted one or two with machete and they never came close to any officer. If they did i am sure the military would not edit out that part of the video.

8. Until the video miraculously jumps, the
road was full but THERE WAS NO ATTACK OR THREAT OF IT. Just a "you will not pass" blockade. If there was more than this please why will the video taken and released by the Army not show ithuh?

NB: I insist that the military does not open fire on civilians who have not attack them.

Not even a threat of attack is good enough for fire from the military to be opened on civilians. With due respect to my friends in the military, if we all remove the sentiment of these persons being Shia we will see that we cannot have a community where whoever blocks the road from the military to pass is shot dead even before he tries to attack.

Added to this i recognized that things may have been different on the ground, but at least i am saying Nigerians should not cheer you up but ask why you shot fellow Nigerians and if your explanations are good then we accept it. But not this game of they wanted to assassinate COAS or COAS is too big to be stopped. If students were protesting and they become this unruly will they also be shot dead?

Was there no other option to prevent this security challenge we have all entered?

How about re-enforcing to remove these boys to the barrack even if for thorough beating? How about forcing your way through?

Even in the process someone is killed that is different from opening fire on people so much so that your video jumped from an argument (in which you were right though) to a clear road made clear by your bullets.

And after all these why the continued onslaught and propaganda that they wanted to kill your COAS? These are my issues with the military not that anyone who blocks the road is right. Everybody agrees that blocking the road even if COAS is not there is wrong. BUT YOU DON'T HANDLE THE SITUATION LIKE THIS.

Nigerians who celebrate this action today may be the victim tomorrow because the military will not realise that opening fire on civilians no matter how unruly is not an option except you actually fear for your life which the video never showed.

The Army should have handled their operations covertly without them getting involved. This is where espionage and proper planning comes into play. They can even eliminate the Sect Leader without anyone linking it back to the Army.
You have a point. However, there are always unforseen circumstances when half educated dudes are managing affairs.
We are practically being managed by dull heads in Nigeria. Corruption was the bases for the last election, nothing else. If not, we have better experienced educated people who knows a lot about intelligence, technology, economy and security in this country who can handle our affairs.

I have no doubt Buhari will fight corruption, which is very good. However I have doubts he knows what it takes to grow our economy. There are limits to what an adviser can tell you. Egocentric leaders like him would never allow someone else ideas to manifest unless the entire glory is guaranteed to go to him.
This has been in existence since the time of Bible down to Ceaser, Napoleon etc.

In summary, Nigeria is not heading anywhere economic wise in the next 8 years.
I said 8 years, not because Buhari will win the next election but because, it will take nearly another four years to clear the economic mess he will leave behind.

...and that's if we are lucky to get it right in the next election.

The Nigerian Army in its crude form, Buratai can simply direct his convoy to take a different route in Zaria to get to his destination.

If the Nigerian Army need to deal with the Sect, conduct a covert operation and pick up the Sect leader without linking it to the Army, this will not attract bloodshed and unnecessary global attention.
You expect the CHIEF of ARMY Staff to yield ground to a mob?!!!!! The whole COAS!!!!! How can he blame soldiers if they run away from battle field?

Look, I'm a Muslim if you care to know. It's not as if I'm happy about this, but my Jihad does not tell me to go and block the convoy of a Sovereign Nation's Army, it doesn't work that way... it is suicidal! What would it have cost them to just allow the Army go their way?
The video showed 9 minutes. They really spent more than 30 minutes begging them

Small time now they'll be complaining that they don't have the arms and ammunitions to prosecute the war against Boko Haram, yet they have the weapons to shoot indiscriminately at defenseless citizens.

BTW, what are they doing in Zaria when a war is going on in Sambisa forest?

For more than five years, they've taken more than 20% of our national budget with little or nothing to show for it.

I am not disputing ur claims, but please as "the wise and smart one" give us few examples of how a handful of soldiers would have cleared a path blocked by up to a thousand Islamic mob chanting and yelling "alahu ahkbar"

Many of us just come here to say rubbish with the intent of pushing blame on a specific government we despise. That is the real problem of Nigerians. Only few of us are transparent and unbiased in our reasoning.

When they attacked and killed some members of this same group about a year ago, I didn't feel it was just, but I felt the soldiers were pushed. I didn't blame the soldiers and neither did I blame GEJ for that incident. Why is it that all of a sudden, a similar and more antagonizing event occurs, and suddenly, some clowns come here to put d blame on the army and at dsame time gladly blame GMB?

If they had successfully mobbed and killed the COAS and his crew, these same goons would still come here and shout Buhari dis, Buhari that. Now the army were antagonized and they decided to fight the mob, these same group of e-goats are here talking.

Why must people carry weapons like machetes to confront d Army with all this happening in the nation??...if u think machetes are not weapons, go and read the history of atrocities it was used to carry out in Sierra Leone, Rwanda, etc. Just a few months ago, some rumors were circulating that hundreds of soldiers were killed in one single attack. If u have a family in the military or if u have lost some1 to this Islamic insurgency, I'm sure u wouldn't be saying this trash.

The rules of engagement ur talking about doesn't apply to only gun to gun situations. If u engage me with any weapon that can harm or kill me (machete, cutlass or molotov cocktail), I have a right to hit u with any weapon at my disposal (AK47, RPG grin) .... That is the rule of engagement.
my guy u are brilliant good one.

Somebody should please put me through here. So this group blocked the way of the military men, then the military men went on rampage and kill everything kill able, even a baby and raze their home and shrine, or is the shrine blocking the way too? Armoured vehicle was deployed to patrol the streets, chasing the civilians away..

There is more to this story than what is being told. I think its a premeditated plan to attack this sect.

I'm not a muslim, but I know what is wrong when I see one. This is wrong.
You are very correct. It was premeditated and it's not the first time this kind of crime is committed against the Shiites. But then, what does one do when they are slapped with an ill-considered December deadline to defeat Boko Haram, a Suni terrorist organization like all others (Al Qaeda, Al Nusra, Al Shibab, ISIL/ISIS) and you suddenly discover in December that Boko Haram is still standing and going nowhere? You look for low
hanging fruit and walkovers like the ever peaceful non-jihadist Shiites who take up arms only in self-defence or in support of the Palestinian cause. You massacre the Shiites who're participating in the procession. Just in case some have survived, you go to their homes and finish them off there. That way, at least, you can report that you achieved something. You have destroyed a sect which tried to kill the Chief of Staff and in any case, they were eventually going to transform themselves into a terrorist organization. Unfortunately, the plan wasn't a very good one. They messed up the communication and attempted assassination part of the plan. Everything they've done supports the allegation that this was a premeditated massacre. I hope they didn't forget that the authenticity of video footage is verifiable.

On point. Right to the matter. Am a Muslim, born and bred in the North. And I make no excuses. Those shiites where asking for it. It's these same set of people (hausa illiterate youths brain washed by religious fanatics) that killed those corpers in Bauchi during the 2011 post election violence. Any right thinking human being that watched that video and understood hausa could see how these Generals where begging these people. Begging o !!! shocked yes, the response of the army was unfair. But in their stupid imagination what did they think will happen. Did you guys even see the small girls where black and kneeling in the streets shouting Allah Akbar ? These bunch of fanatics where beyond reasoning with. They got what they deserved. They no born you well to dey taunt army and escape without getting scorched. He who plays with fire gets burned
if any sane man should watch that video, the Shiites got exactly what they deserved, they were just a ticking bomb waiting to explode at that moment, cuz some of their leaders kept pushing em back and trying to pacify them,I don't know why some group loves violence,it wouldn't cost em a dime to part the highway and let the vehicles go through, then they continue their procession,I think the military was diplomatic enough,a good look at the video depicts violence in the Shiites responses to the chief, there is nothing peaceful about that protest, though the killing wasn't totally cool, but they called for their death, who stands in front of an armed man with rifles, with nothing but sticks, bows, matchetes, and alahu Akbar chants, very foolish seta people.
