I went to service my car today and I had about two litres of TOTAL 9000 motor oil which was the left over of the last service about 6 months ago and I equally bought a fresh 5 litres. So, I did not want the old one to waste, I gave it to the service engineer to pour it in first before using the new one, but some guys objected to it telling me that since I have left it unused for along time, it would have got spoilt. They also insisted that motor oil expire over a period of time, but the engineer countered them by saying unused motor oil does not expire or spoilt in any way. He even gave an instance about how inscription of expiry dates on their motor oil almost became a bad market for mobil motor oil, which made the company to stop the practice of inscribing dates of expiration on their motor oil. Any one in the house with true position whether motor/engine expires?

I think 6 months or 3,000 km is what is recommended or which ever that came first. I hope am on point

Even when it is tightly closed?

I use quartz 9000 on one of my vehicles. It does 7,500km or 1 year, which ever comes first. It never gets to 7,500km so every year oil is drained. Been like this for car is on its 3rd year.

The way I see it, worst case scenario you have 6months left on that engine oil.

okay, GAZZUZZ, but you skipped the main issue, i.e if motor oil expires?

It should but my guess would be a lot longer than 2years.
