Ighalo: Team Work, Deeney Connection Gave Us Victory Over Liverpool https://www.completesportsnigeria.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/image-11.jpeg Super Eagles striker Odion Ighalo has attributed their 3-0 win over Liverpool on Sunday to team work and not just individual brilliance. Ighalo scored a brace against the Kops before he was substituted in the 87th minute and the former Udinese and Granada spoke on what helped the Hornets who rose to the 7th position after the game. Ighalo made it 12 goals for the season and 28 for the calendar year with a brace at Vicarage Road, the first of which was set up by his captain. The duo have created more goalscoring chances for each other than any other combination in the Premier League this season, and Ighalo acknowledged that they are working well together. "From the first minute you could see that we were after the first goal. We had no fear," Ighalo told Sky Sports News. "I just make runs in behind and I know that Troy can find me. We have a connection." "From the start its a team effort, you can see the way we got the goals. Its a great team performance from the start to the finish," the striker admitted. Ighalo also commented about his box of dribbling skills in the opposition half. "Its something I practise a lot. I know many defenders will take note of that and start making me," the Eagles striker said with a smile. Watford's other goal was scored by youngster Nathan Ake. Ighalo had 33 touches of the ball with a pass accuracy of 53.3%. www.completesportsnigeria.com/sand-eagles-are-copa-second-best-team-again/ |

Madu, one of the new faces in the team, has been struggling with injury for the past few days and Completesportsnigeria.com learnt he won’t be able to recover in time for the competition. Gbadebo was part of the team that qualified for the competition edging out Burkina Faso 2-0 on aggregate. The centre-back however failed to make the preliminary 26- man list for the pre- tournament camping exercise which started in Abuja last Monday. He was a regular member of the Lobi Stars side that lost 2-1 to Akwa United in the final of the Federation Cup. Rwanda will host the competition from January 16 to February 7. Anyansi said football was a game that is not predictable but with hard work and appropriate preparations, one can boast of reaching the semi-final. “Though no one can rule out destiny when it gets to that stage. But reaching the semi-final and final without the trophy shows that the team has played well. He also confirmed that his committee approved the choice of camping in Pretoria, South Africa due to similar weather condition with Kigal, Rwanda, the venue of the CHAN competition schedule for early January, 2016. “Apart from camping in South Africa, the team will play quality friendly matches before departing for the competition, Anyansi confirmed. Meanwhile, the home-based Super Eagles is to go on two days Christmas break – December 24, 25. The break may be optional for the players as the team will resume training on the 26th by 4 p.m. Sportinglife gathered that the Chief Coach, Sunday Ogochukwu Oliseh is in constant touch with the team daily and may join the team in Pretoria, South Africa. The team will depart for the training tour first week of January, 2016. http://thenationonlineng.net/chan-eagles-can-lift-the-trophy-anyansi/ |

Stat shows Odion Ighalo is better than Aguero, Costa, Vardy in 2015 Imhons Erons The Lagos-born Watford striker has taken the premier League by storm. After five years on loan at different clubs in Spain and Italy, the 6ft 2in tall forward as found a stable home in England and is already a terror to the League’s best defenders. SoccerNet Nigeria looks at the stats and figures that make Odion Ighalo a striking sensation. Starting with his finest stat of all: Odion Ighalo has scored more league goals in England's top four tiers in 2015 than any other player. In other words, no one has scored more goals in England in 2015 than the Nigerian, all while playing for modest Watford. More than Sergio Aguero, Diego Costa and Jamie Vardy. After netting an amazing 20 goals in 38 appearances for the Hornets in the Championship, Ighalo quickly dispensed any talk of being a ‘one season wonder’ or ‘lower league striker’ once Watford made the step up to the elite division. It took Odion Ighalo only 9 minutes on the pitch to score his first Premier League goal in a 2-2 draw with Everton, restoring Watford’s lead with seven minutes of play left after he was introduced into the encounter as a 74th minute substitute. It was the newly promoted side’s first top-flight game since 2006-07. By the end of October, Odion Ighalo had become the highest scorer in Watford’s Premier League history on seven goals, overtaking Heidar Helguson and Hameur Bouazza on six. The Nigerian had netted again in Watford’s 2-0 trashing of West Ham at Vicarage Road, the first time Watford have scored more than once at home in a Premier League game since April 2007 (4-2 vs Portsmouth). That game was also West Ham’s first defeat at Vicarage Road since April 1985, having been unbeaten in 11 games at the ground since then (W8 D3). It was a sign of greater things to come. Ighalo’s brace at the weekend condemned Liverpool to their heaviest Premier League defeat to a promoted side since losing 3-0 to Newcastle United in November 1993. It also ensured that the weekend ended with all three promoted sides winning on the same match day for the first time since September 2011 (MD5). Odion Ighalo has now scored five goals in his last four Premier league appearances at Vicarage Road. The goals helping Watford win their first ever back-to-back home games in the Premier League. For anyone doubting how important the striker’s goals have been for the Hornets, Ighalo’s strikes have ensured that Watford have already equaled their entire points tally of 28 from their last Premier League season in 2006/07. With more than 20 matches still to play, don’t bet against Odion Ighalo chalking up more incredible stats this season. Watford finally have another legend in the making. http://www.soccernet.com.ng/2015/12/stat-shows-odion-ighalo-is-better-than.html |

The Kehinde Fatai Snub: Should Nigeria chase the hitman? https://images.performgroup.com/di/library/Goal_Nigeria/0/8d/kehinde-fatai_189zjtnir74d31k7md81b60jq5.jpg?t=1662234585&w=620&h=430 Have the Super Eagles missed a trick in not moving for the Sparta Prague frontman, who looks destined for an international future with Romania? By James Ezimoha Securing top professional footballers for the national team has been an incredibly lopsided battle: Nigeriavs. the rest of the world https://static.goal.com/di/D3BCFD907822D79A46D5236C0EB450A6.jpg This war, as it were, has been optimized by brutally conflicting pledges—the unflinching selflessness of Victor Moses whose parents were murdered in the northern parts of Nigeria in 2002, set against the rather indulgent eyes of Gabriel Agbonlahor, for example—which has somberly seen the gains handsomely overclouded by the losses—from a Nigerian perspective, of course. From David Alaba, the Austrian left-back whose loss Nigeria will forever rue, to Italian defender Angelo Ogbonna, the narrative has left a lingering bitter taste, one that not even the captures of the aforementioned Moses or Alex Iwobi, for example, could quite pacify. And there is reasonable justification bellied under this grand fury. As reported by Goal in an exclusive story, former Flying Eagles forward Kehinde Fataiis in-line to switch his allegiance to The Tricolours of Romania, adding to the swelling list of footballers who have snubbed the Super Eagles to pursue international glory with other nations. In this article, we ask whether or not Nigeria fans should lose sleep over Fatai’s potential loss or would he be added to the list of those who got away but aren’t missed? The 25-year-old featured for the Nigeria U-20 in 2009, scoring goals for the then-Samson Siasia-led team. His final appearance in the colours of Nigeria would however come in the 2012 Olympic qualifiers against Tanzania, and since then, despite coming of age at club level, plus many European competition adventures, there’s been no contact from the Nigeria Football Federation or the current or previous national team coaches. https://static.goal.com/di/2956FFABF73AFDE3F0965F82F93A0FB7.jpg Fatai in action for Sparta Prague Currently on the books of Sparta Prague in Czech Republic’s top division, the Abuja-born forward has notched eight goals in 13 appearances this season—a commendable tally compared to some of the players who have been invited to the Super Eagles recently. Upon his departure from Nigeria in 2007, Fatai touched down in Romania and joined the youth team of third division side FC Farul Constanta. The following season, however, he was promoted to the senior team after scoring 11 goals in 20 games. “ From 2009/10 – 2014, he gained more exposure with Astra Giurgui and Belgian side Club Brugge before heading to the Generali Arena in May 2015. The former JUTH FC forward has featured in the UEFA Europa and Champions Leagues with Astra and Sparta Prague, making substantial appearances (21 in both competitions) and scoring a healthy number of goals (nine in both competitions). Picture Bayern Munich’s left-back Alaba, who has won the Austrian Footballer of The Year four times in a row, in the Green and White, and you’d understand why it is imperative Nigeria did some serious soul-searching before deeming this particular bird unworthy to be pursued. https://static.goal.com/di/B1768D1D84FC91B93C56AACC98615D34.jpg Will Fatai become like David Alaba, another Nigerian talent who 'got away'? The latest battle, and loss, was that of highly-rated Liverpool youngster Jordon Ibe (19), who, despite pleas from all and sundry, chose to follow Dele Alli (19) and others in chasing the Three Lions of England rather than soar on the back of the Super Eagles. However, those losses reflect a contrasting light to the situation of Fatai, with regards to the current needs of the national team. Sunday Oliseh’s undisputed number one striker Odion Ighalo, who took his goal haul to 10 over the weekend for Watford in the Premier League, but is struggling to replicate his goal-scoring form for the Eagles. And whilst his ability to find the back of the net has never been in doubt, Oliseh would be wise to find an equally lethal forward as back-up or competition for the 26-year-old. https://static.goal.com/di/F208386C4953CB779912436F5A69F20E.jpg Evidently, Fatai seems a ready-made option to take-up this role compared to Iwobi (19), who is still honing his trade at Arsenal, for example, or Obafemi Martins (31), who can’t have too much longer in the tank. Furthermore, to gain Fatai’s services, the NFF and coaches do not need to embark on a fierce do-or-die high-way chase for his signature, as was the case with Ibe, Alli and many others. He has confessed his readiness and ‘dream’ to play for his fatherland, with the only obstacle a lack of opportunity and faith in his abilities, hence the attraction from Romania. “It’s my dream since I was little, I really wanted to play for Nigeria,” he told Goal. https://static.goal.com/di/8BA72C9D7FA98D31BA450BDA3C03F125.jpg “I will not say I deserve (to play for Nigeria) or maybe they do not think I deserve it. But not all Nigerian football players playing in Europe play in these tournaments (Champions League and Europa League), and I’m not just present there, I’m playing very well there. So I think I deserve (a chance) maybe; I am not saying it is obligatory.” John Fashanu, perhaps, tops the lists of players of Nigerian origin who were, in the words of Rafiu Ladipo, “used and dumped”, by other nations, with little or nothing to show for their international football careers. To think that Nigeria may be at the end of such scorching mockery in future should not be discounted. “Why did we let Kehinde Fatai go?” we may ask in future, and bitterly, too. m.goal.com/x/en-ng/news/4079/features/2015/12/21/18491232/the-kehinde-fatai-snub-should-nigeria-chase-the-hitman CC: Icon4s, Forgiveness, Mikron, e.t.c............... |

A close confidant of the Sparta Prague striker informed AfricanFootball.com that the Jos-born forward has been contacted by an agent for the deal and he directed them to his Czech Republic club. "Kehinde (Fatai) has attracted interest from a German Bundesliga team for a possible move in January,” disclosed the confidant. "He has been contacted by an agent who said the German team watch him against Schalke in the UEFA Europa League and they were convinced enough to have him, but Kehinde asked them to go talk to his club because he is under contract with them." Fatai has been a consistent goal scorer right from his days in JUTH FC of Jos to Romania before he joined Sparta Prague this summer. He also posted a brief stint at Belgian side Club Brugge on loan. The 25-year-old forward has scored 12 goals in all competitions this season - eight in the league, two in UEFA Champions League and two in UEFA Europa League. Fresh Ighalo fear grips Watford https://sunnewsonline.com/new/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/Odion-Ighalo-010.jpg • He’s going nowhere in January –Flores BY JOE APU THE rising profile of Nigerian striker Odion Ighalo with Watford in the English Premiership is fast becoming a cause for concern to the club with the striker’s performance catching the eyes of big teams. Ighalo’s goals have caught the attention of bigger Premier League clubs and there are already insinuations that he might leave in the January window but his coach, Quique Sanchez Flores insists that Super Eagles forward will stay at Watford at least until the end of the season. “I think Ighalo is completely clever, he chose five months ago the option to stay here with Wat- ford,” Sanchez told British media. The Nigerian striker joined Watford in July 2014 from Italian out- fit Udinese after spending a few seasons on loan with Granada in Spain. “It’s very clever, he knew perfectly it was the best option for him. I think he’ll finish the season with Watford, after that anybody knows,” Sanchez added. Ighalo showcased his finishing prowess with two goals in Wat- ford’s 3-0 win over Liverpool in the Premier League on Sunday, taking his tally this season to 12. His flourishing partnership up front with Troy Deeney, who has scored five goals in his last six league games, have propelled last season’s promoted side up to seventh place. sunnewsonline.com/new/fresh-ighalo-fear-grips-watford/ |

Orkpekyandega:Nigeria has so many players doing well presently in Europe. The only way we can "give everybody a chance" is if we have over 100 Super Eagles teams con-currently. How many games do the Super Eagles play in a year? And how many players can play at a time? Except u are suggesting we keep presenting a different set of 11 players in every of the Super Eagles games so that every Nigerian player will get to play. Obvious talents like Isaac Success and Imoh Ezekiel have not even gotten the chance to feature yet (Imoh jst 10mins of jst one pre-world cup friendly). That should tell u something: we have a large pool of players from which to chose from. Nobody is ruled out and every performing player will have his turn someday. |

What matters most is who is your god father and how close you are to the National coach or na my brother. They said the boy flopped when he was called but those saying so has forgotten Odion Ighalo also flopped in the age group competition. But where is he now? The man God has blessed no man can curse. Tomtoxic:Kehinde Fatai is not a Super Eagles material. Take that to the bank. Romania can have him if they want. We've got better players lined-up already waiting for their call-up. Don't you guys remember him from the 2009 Flying Eagles? Odion Ighalo was the main striker then and Kehinde only featured as a sub in our 3-2 lose to Germany in the second round. Person wey been no fit trap ball well sef. Odion Ighalo, Danny Uchechi (another flop) and Kehinde Fatai were the 3 centre forwards we paraded at the 2009 U20 World Cup. Only Ighalo managed to put up an average performance the other two (Fatai and Uchechi) were flops. It is good enough that we are getting updates on the progress of some of our Europe based players here. But not all of them are Super Eagles materials. |

Icon4s:true again, he was a flop then but so was ighalo, but today we re seeing a different ighalo altogether, like ighalo, kehinde too must have improved tremendously if d Romanian FA are thinking or making plans rather to cap him. Who knows, he might just be an instant hit in d super Eagles if given the chance. My thought though. |
