Ezechinwa:Oga .... Big lie .... There is difference between power generation, power transmission and power distribution.... Let out government stop deceiving people.... Nigerian power structure need a 100% reshape... Nuclear power plant could have done us better but we have lunatics of brothers in the north that can see that as a means of fire works |

easier said than done... many hope lifting promises are being made by our government year in and out so this isn't a surprise to me it's a normal game of tell em what they want to hear. looting goes on.... no doubt we gat good heads who can or had come up with great policies here in the zoo.. ooh sorry Nigeria but then the politics of these wonderful policies is where the NIGERIA problems lies. let's develop the attitude of being sincere and honest to our selves by this way Nigeria maybe better. |

Ezechinwa:Bro that is the corruption we out to fight, because it's not the masses that have those contracts of importing, gen production outside the country... they are the real sabotage of power supply in nigeria And the petroleum sector is not left out, you know that the amount of fuel both heavy duty being bought daily will reduce if their is constant power supply. So fall in sales(low profit for the ogas) Constant supply, can we have it in nigeria? |

Invite company that produces inverter and solar panels to produce for Nigerians at government subsidized price that it will within the reach of minimum wages earner. |

I'm not being pessimistic but I don't think this is possible, not with dropping oil prices. Solar energy though very durable, long lasting and delivers cheap energy but has a really high installation cost. |

elvisdaniels:Not really. Most solar projects are sited in rural areas because of the availability of land. I don't see any available lands in urban areas to arrange solar panels. Although, that's just the generating part of the project, distribution is a different ballgame. |

princejayboss:Why don't they sell Power banks , Generators , UPS in Europe? You think China are doing us a favour by producing Generators that they don't use in their country but export it directly to Nigeria? These guys are making money from our ignorance and believe me, they can spend or even bribe When we kick them out properly but gradually, then we can all focus on restructuring our POWER sector! |

Solar power in the United States includes utility-scale solar power plants as well as local distributed generation, mostly from rooftop photovoltaics. As of the fourth quarter of 2014, the U.S. has 18.3 gigawatts (GW) of installed photovoltaic capacity with an additional 1.7 GW of concentrated solar power.[1] In the twelve months through October 2015, utility scale solar power generated 25.3 terawatt-hours (TWh), 0.62% of total U.S. electricity.[2] At the same time, in 2015 (Jan-June), 39% of all new electricity generation capacity in the USA came from solar.[3] So says Wikipedia. |

princejayboss:I hate it when people recommend nuclear power plant in Africa where there is abundance of farm land, wind , coal, sun, water(hydrogen) e.t.c.. So u expect Africans to use nuclear at the expense of their farmland, ocean e.t.c. That's already been polluted by people.. You'll have no problem if Africa starts importing drinking water, food e.t.c |

Once we ban Generators, our industries and offices would collapse... most hours of the day, banks, companies and factories are running on generator... take that away and everywhere is grounded! Even the ATM that you withdraw money from is powered by Batteries that are usually charged by Generators. The government has to find a way to fix electricity problem without grounding the economy. Not a pessimist myself, but a realist. Morocco has the largest solar farm in the world, it generates just 504 MW. By 2020, it plans to build solar farms that would generate 2,000 MW at the cost of whooping 9 billion dollars. Solar power generation is the most expensive renewable energy source. This project is going to be financed by world bank and several other financial institutions. So, question is; where does our adorable minister intend to source the funds for this project from? Another attempt to tickle our emotions and fantasy. Not all nigerians live in dreamland. |

IGNORANCE IS A DISEASE, THIS IS WHAT WE HEAR WHEN NON ENGINEERS ARE APPOINTED INTO A TECHNICALLY SENSITIVE POSITION. WITH ALL OUR ABUNDANT FREE GAS AND OIL NIGERIA CAN ONLY BOOST OF ABOUT 4500 - 4800 MW OF ELECTRICITY. HOW DOES THE GOVERNMENT INTEND TO ACHIEVE 13000 MW IN LESS THAN FOUR YEARS TIME? EVEN IF ACHIEVABLE, HAVE THEY TAKEN TIME TO REVIEW THE BUDGET REQUIREMENT? IT IS ECONOMICALLY CHEAPER TO BUILD A THERMAL STATION OR HYDRO-ELECTRIC PROJECT OF SIMILAR POWER RANGE (MW) THAN A SOLAR POWERED SYSTEM. SOLAR POWER AND WIND POWERED GENERATION SHOULD BE USED FOR SMALLER SCALE PROJECTS IN THE NORTHERN PART OF NIGERIA PARTICULARLY IN THE AREAS OF AGRICULTURE, IRRIGATION, COMMUNICATION ETC. THE COST FOR SOLAR POWERED SYSTEM IS STILL RELATIVELY HIGH AND THE POWER GENERATED FROM IT IS STILL VERY SMALL COMPARED TO THE INITIAL CAPITAL COST. TO MEET OUR NATION POWER DEMAND WI'LL REQUIRE MORE INVESTMENT IN THERMAL, HYDROELECTRIC AND EVEN NUCLEAR POWERED ELECTRIC GENERATION. |

SmartMugu:From this comment I can deduce you've probably lived all your life in Lagos... Many people in Lagos already use solar panels on their roofs.. Go out of Lagos and see availability of land... Even Lagos can displace people just to build a solar plant. |

Ezechinwa:Lol.... Every country makes use of generator at some point and those developed countries still don't have power failure... We cannot have dependable power supply unless we restructure our electricity line system... From generation to the distribution |
