Floyd45:Your suggestion is on point. We need a kinda critics board for our own opinions not the "mans" opinion. I wanted to do something like imdb in 2007 when the internet was becoming popular in Nigeria only for me on first trial to bump into imdb. Imagine my shock. Lol. I gave up then. We should start a critics thread. Where trusted members of this thread can give sound opinions on movies. Better yet we can start it on this thread. |

armadeo:I read up the IIMDB dude, man he has been in the game for a while FAM, nice suggestion you made also. I wanted and still want to own a plattform like Imdb, although i know it isnt a stroll in the park. I'm thinking looking inward you know? I mean locally. You have to admit we have taken some really bold steps in upping our movies.. |

Floyd45:It starts small. Maltin started a long time ago now he's a reknown film critic. I don't think we have such here in Nigeria concerning our own home grown movies. What should be done is to open a thread strictly for home videos and take it from there. |

Revenant. Am curious, how hard does a bear have to knock someone to a tree before breaking his spine, and stomping on his back repeatedly? Even that slash to his throat is a knock out to dead men's world. It reminds me of Grey starring Liam Neeson and one other cowboy movie by Pierce Bronsnan. |

blublahd:Glass is one tough sonofabitch. The bear attack can be divided into 3 parts. - The first was when the grizzly came hurtling at him from behind the tree, knocked him to the ground, then pawed at him with it's giant claws. Glass, being a veteran hunter, knew what to do, so played dead while the hungry grizzly manhandles his limb body. After some futile attempt to get a response from Glass, the brown bear lumbered away. - The grizzly returned, and seeing a sign of life on Glass charged again. Glass, able to retrieve his gun, fired off a shot, but only managed to enrage the grizzly as the 2nd part of the attack kicked off at that moment. The grizzly was much more aggressive this time around as he clawed at Glass' throat and back, even torso, trailing a bloody mess at it's wake. Again, somehow, Glass found the will to play dead, although I suspect this time, it didn't take him too much of an effort since he was rapidly fading away from the mortal injuries sustained from the prolonged mauling. Then, the bear left him alone as Glass successfully conned it again. - But it was only for a moment as the grizzly turned around to attack him for the 3rd successive time after spying Glass' limb body shift, but Glass was really ready for it this time as he stabbed the bear on the head repeatedly with his hunting knife. The grizzly died instantly. Now, that's my personal take on what transpired. A lesser man wouldn't have survived, but Glass was a survivor - a man with an ironclad will to live. |

What do you guys think of 'The Hateful 8'? |

koice:Come on man! This guy na Bruce Banner? It's a man's body we talking about here na, with the force of a bear. I admire his zeal, in any case you have no other options.. But haba? Or does zeal prevent the claw of a bear on a man's throat, lesser man or not? I just couldn't shake that part off, who comes back from a slit in the throat not to talk of a bears claws? And how convenient for the red Indians to start missing gunshots and arrows before he went off the cliff. In reality,, no man can survive that, abeg!. |

Watching "The Intern". So far so good, loving it. |
| Re: What Movie Are You Watching Now? by Nobody: 1:17pm On Jan 01, 2016 |
blublahd:Well, I guess that's why it's called fiction. If they went for realism and he died from the attack, there wouldn't be a story, no? |
| Re: What Movie Are You Watching Now? by Nobody: 1:24pm On Jan 01, 2016 |
koice:The ending was kinda dull to me, I was expecting someone to eventually come in at the end and reap the bounty. But there were some subtlety in that movie. Notice how Samuel L was called a nigga repeatedly by that woman and how he shot the general son making him suck his cocck? Samuel L eventually gets shot in the cocck by a dude that could also pass as the generals son but of course Samuel killed him too. Notice that place where the English man was all through polite and at the same time made a pass at Americans not turning down an opportunity for war even if the other party is willing to surrender. And at the end it was the same two antagonizing each other who remained the last survivors because they put their head together and forgot about their differences. And that the white man who hates niggas saves the life of a nigga at the end. It has a lot of political or social undertones. |

koice:Of course it's fiction. But there would be a story,, as a skilled Hunter you should know what a bear's domain would look like. And to evade immediately after sighting it's cub and not pointing a gun at it. |

The whole film was crazy, I laughed my ass off throughout. It was pure comedy The N-word was thrown around quite liberally, mostly by while folks, few times by the Mexican Bob. blublahd:Actually, I find the ending a befitting climax to a movie with so many twists and intrigues. One scene left quite an impression: 2 men - A black major and redneck - quietly enjoying the painful suffering of a white woman they hanged together. Marquis Warren (Samuel Jackson) even said something during the process of the hanging that got me cracking "Hang on Daisy, I wanna watch!" Translation: Don't die yet Daisy, I wanna savour your slow demise properly. ![]() blublahd:He didn't actually shoot the general's son. It was a story he made up to provoke the general into reaching for a pistol he (S. Jackson) conveniently left at his - the general - side... and it worked. The general reached for the gun, and Warren (S. Jackson) shot him dead. blublahd:The man that shot Major Warren's cojones off wasn't the general's son, but Jody (Daisy's brother). Warren killed him out of pure spite cuz of what he (Jody) did to him (Warren). ![]() blublahd:Yeah, the british guy was very philosophical and even convinced me he was really who he claimed to be - a hangman. But as it turned out, he was in cohorts with Daisy and his real name was Pete Hicox, a wanted assassin. blublahd:This movie wasn't subtle at all. Subtlety ain't Tarantino's style. This western thriller-comedy is a middle finger to the United States corrupt government and racial bias. Believe it or not, the theme of the movie is on the blackman's side. |

blublahd:Glass was a skilled hunter and wasn't expecting to encounter a bear. Do you know why? Bears, especially grizzlies go on hibernation during winter seasons. So understandably he was shocked when he realized that a bear that should be in hibernation was stalking him instead, hence, he frozed, and didn't react as quickly as he would have on normal circumstances. |

koice:Yea it was quite funny. . He didn't actually shoot the general's son. It was a story he made up to provoke the general into reaching for a pistol he (S. Jackson) conveniently left at his - the general - side... and it worked. The general reached for the gun, and Warren (S. Jackson) shot him dead. How do you know he didn't kill the son? Remember Warren also has a bounty on his head he was talking about in the carriage where the would be sheriff brought it up. Talking about white boys never coming back, or some of them just dying off in the cold mountains. I think he just saw an opportunity to kill the general who was also responsible for the deaths of blacks in the war. The man that shot Major Warren's cojones off wasn't the general's son, but Jody (Daisy's brother). Warren killed him out of pure spite cuz of what he (Jody) did to him (Warren).I knew he wasn't his son, I was saying in a figurative manner seeing as Jody would have been the same age with the general's son. That's why I used the word 'pass'. , This movie wasn't subtle at all. Subtlety ain't Tarantino's style. This western thriller-comedy is a middle finger to the United States corrupt government and racial bias. Believe it or not, the theme of the movie is on the blackman's side.Well I guess your insight are sharper than I thought. And where did I imply it wasn't on the black man's side?... Warren was like the main character.,he had Lincoln's letter or supposedly. |
| Re: What Movie Are You Watching Now? by Nobody: 2:55pm On Jan 01, 2016 |
koice:Nope the bear wasn't stalking him. The bear's cub seemed to have wondered out about perhaps when the bear mom went looking for food.. Now she returns to seeing a man pointing something at her cub and charged.. He even turned to confirm the growling creature. He should have instinctively just abandon the vicinity to a more secure ground for himself. Wild life is not where you pause and think like you playing chess. He should have even called out, but he wanted to use a single shot barrel gun to take out a bear. |

blublahd:You seemed to forget that Glass knew the place very well. It wasn't his first picnic either, he hunts with his son all the time. Fact is he didn't expect to find a bear cub nor it's protective mother out and about in the middle of a winter season. Bear is not something you can outrun - it's deceptively fast and can run for miles, so trying to run away or call out was out of the the question. The only thing he would have done at the point in time was what he exactly did - stay and fight. Only he didn't do it properly, because he was caught by surprise. Aimed properly, a single barrel gun can kill a grizzly instantly, but the grizzly never gave Glass the chance. He missed on both attempts. |

blublahd:I really hope he does, that was his best acting in years. Almost certain that Tom Hardy would win something - 2 major movies last year, and commendable delivery on both. |
