Watford star striker Odion Ighalo

by Samm Audu
Watford striker Odion Ighalo has unanimously won the Premier League's African Player award for the month of December.

In a release put out by award organisers, New African Soccer, Nigeria international Ighalo was so overwhelming in his performance and reviews that there was "very little need for a shortlist to be announced".

Award director Tunde Adelakun said in the statement, "Ighalo spent December scoring goals for his team. He scored in all six games played in a packed December schedule of fixtures, including games against Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham. This is a very remarkable feat."

Adelakun went on to confirm that in the short lifespan of the New African Soccer awards, Ighalo becomes the first player who has won the monthly award twice in a season.
It will be recalled that he also won the October award.

Brown Ideye : I Was Arrested By Police For Gambling

https://www.allnigeriasoccer.com/football_pics/1289Ideye.jpg
Olympiakos striker Brown Ideye has admitted that he had a difficult childhood and was often in trouble with the Nigerian Police in his teenage years.

Ideye and his friends that he played soccer with engaged themselves in vices just to earn some extra money and his parents never wanted him to become a footballer due to his bad boy ways.

“It was my friends from school. I played football with them, played cards and gambled with them . It was very common in the neighborhood where I grew up, to do anything to earn money,”
Ideye was quoted as saying by gazzetta.gr.

“I played poker, gambled, played various games with these groups, which were my same friends with whom I played football.

“Overall, we were the bad boys of the neighborhood and that is why my parents did not want me to play football.

“One day, we played cards the police came and arrested us and of course my parents were furious.”

In his own right, the former Dynamo Kiev and Sochaux attacker can now claim to be a successful footballer, having played in the Fifa Under 20 World Cup, Confederations Cup, Champions League and African Cup of Nations.

The God of Soccer don hear your prayer abi?

Can't just forgive Ighalo for those 2 clear chance he missed. Also can't also understand why he prefers to stay at Watfort even when a big Club like Athletico Madrid is coming for him.

Igjalo move joor.

I think he should stay at Watford. There is no need making a jump and risking flopping. He has an understanding with the players at Watford, especially Deeney.

Going to Atletico Madrid will mean facing competition with Torres and Jackson Martinez. It will also reduce his playing time. A new language and a new style of play can also slow him down.

Let him stay with Watford and grow with them. He is a big man there and he is respected and loved by the club.

Ighalo can continue his goal rain next week.

Ighalo made the right decision not to leave Watford when a more juicy offer came from the Chinese league after their promotion to the EPL.

It will also be a nice idea, if he stays till the end of the season to reap the fruits of his labour.

I just pray they reach top four, atleast Europa League qualification with his Club. From there a move to better Club with a higher market value would be ideal.

2016 CHAN: Adeniji Eager To Twinkle Like Star In Rwanda

https://d1bez7r3o7wd77.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/image-7.jpeg
By Adeboye Amosu:
Home-based Eagles forward, Tunde Adeniji is ready to shoulder the team's goalscoring responsibilities in the absence of skipper of the side, Gbolahan Salami.

Salami opted out of the squad to facilitate a move to Europe, and won't be with the team in Rwanda, leaving the likes of Adeniji and Chikatara as main strikers in the side, Comple tesportsnigeria.comreports.

The Sunshine Stars forward insists that he, along with other strikers in the team, are looking forward to doing well in the competition.

"It's unfortunate that Salami (Gbolahan) will not be with us in Rwanda, but I'm ready to shoulder the goal scoring responsibilities for the team," Adeniji told Comple tesportsnigeria.com at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport Lagos Saturday morning moments before flying to South Africa with the team for a training camp.
"There are other good strikers in the team and together we can make things happen for the team.
"Our target is to do better than we did two years ago in South Africa.

"We know it's going to be tough out there in Rwanda, but we are ready for the task out there."

Man City End Ighalo Streak, Pip Watford

https://d1bez7r3o7wd77.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/IMG_20160102_202758.jpg
By James Agberebi:
Manchester City prevented Odion Ighalo from scoring in a record seventh straight match when they came from behind to beat Watford 2-1 in Saturday’s late kick-off in the Premier League.

The Nigerian scored in six straight PL matches before Saturday’s clash at Vicarage Road, but it was the visitors who stole the show.

After a goalless first half, Watford shot into the lead after Aleksandar Kolarov deflected a corner kick into his own goal in the 55th minute.

And after being frustrated for most of the second half, City finally found the breakthrough with eight minutes remaining through Yaya Toure.

Two minutes later, Sergio Aguero sealed the win for City after connecting with a header off a Bacary Sagna cross.

City now have 39 points in third position and are just three points off leaders Arsenal.

Home Eagles’ Bassey Eyes CHAN Trophy, Postpones European Ambition

https://d1bez7r3o7wd77.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/CHAN2.jpg
By Izuchukwu Okosi:
Super Eagles and Enyimba star Ezekiel Bassey is looking forward to a rewarding outing at the 2016 African Nations Championship in Rwanda and says his ambition is to be part of a winning team.

On the backdrop of some of his team-mates' ambitions to move abroad, Bassey insists that will be secondary for him.

"Moving abroad will be great but I'm going to Rwanda to be part of a winning team," Bassey told Comple tesportsnigeria.com as the squad jetted out to South Africa for a training camp.

"We (Super Eagles) won the 2013 African Cup of Nations and we also want to win the CHAN, beating the record of the team that won bronze in South Africa two years ago.

"I've not played in the CHAN before so I want to make history. I cannot say what will be the fate of some of my friends like Gbolahan Salami who did not make the team because of the deals they got in Europe.

"I want to move as well, it is the ambition of most home-based players but winning the CHAN comes first."

Bassey has been a mainstay in the home-based Super Eagles setup with big things expected from him in Rwanda.

"I will do my best. The trainings and friendlies we've played so far have been great. We are ready for the challenges ahead," Bassey said confidently.

The Eagles will begin a two-week training exercise in South Africa before the championship kicks off later in ther month.

Salisu Yusuf: Home Eagles Won’t Miss Salami

By Bamidele Boluwaji:
Home Eagles Coach Salisu Yusuf believes the team will not miss the services of Warri Wolves striker Gbolahan Salami who opted out of the 2016 Championship For African Nations (CHAN) in Rwanda, Completesportsnigeria.com can report.

Salami opted out of the tournament because of his plans to travel to Norway where he is expected to sign a new deal with a club.

Speaking before the team departed to South Africa on Saturday morning, Yusuf told Completesportsnigeria.com that despite Salami’s withdrawal, the technical crew led by Coach Sunday Oliseh has done enough work to put the team in perfect shape and will not in any way miss the services of the former Shooting Stars striker.

“There is no doubt about it that Salami is a quality player and experienced one but since we knew he was not going to be part of the team to Rwanda, we went into action by working on the players we have to make sure that the team is in perfect shape and from what we have done so far, I can tell you that we are not going to miss Salami in Rwanda,” Salisu stated.

“Salami says he is pursuing a career abroad and we are not going to stop him from achieving that. We have confidence in the players we have and I am sure that they are not going to disappoint."

The former Enyimba coach who is confident of achieving positive result in Rwanda, says the Home Eagles are ready to return with the trophy.

Salisu added, “We have a mission going to Rwanda and that is to win the trophy. The players have shown enough readiness while we are in Abuja and I am sure that going to South Africa for camping will help the team more."

The Home Eagles will play Niger, Angola and Guinea in the first round of the tournament in Rwanda.

Ibenegbu: Why Eagles Won’t Underrate Niger In CHAN Group C

https://d1bez7r3o7wd77.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/image-6.jpeg
By Izuchukwu Okosi:
The Mena of Niger could be regarded as the underdogs in the 2016 African Nations Championship but Super Eagles and Warri Wolves midfielder Bartholomew Ibenegbu is mindful of the threat the so-called minnows may cause.

Nigeria begins their CHAN campaign in Rwanda with a Group C game against their west African neighbours on January 18.

The Super Eagles star barred his mind to Completesportsnigeria.com just before he departed with the team on Saturday morning to their South Africa training camp.

"I've played against Niger and that was during the 2011 WAFU Cup in Abeokuta. We defeated them 4-0 then," Ibenegbu reckoned.

"But they are now stronger than the time we played them in the WAFU Cup because most of their home-based players also play for their 'Grade A' national team."
Despite their low rating on the African continent, teams such as Niger could be the giant killers at major tournaments and Ibenegbu was quick to admit the widely held view that great teams can be punished for complacency against their supposedly lesser rivals.

He added, "Everybody is talking about Tunisia and Guinea but I want to believe that Niger will be difficult too.

"Recently we defeated them 2-0 in a friendly but what it was improved team I saw," Mosquito as the former Heartland star is fondly called told Completesportsnigeria.com."

The Eagles departed Lagos for Johannesburg on Saturday afternoonwhere they will hold a two-week camping exercise before the trip to Rwanda.

Exclusive By Adeboye Amosu: (pix by Ganiyu Yusuf)
Super Eagles assistant coach, Salisu Yusuf will take over as head coach of Glo Premier League champions, Enyimba after his engagement with the home- based Eagles in Rwanda,

Completesportsnigeria.com can exclusively report.
Yusuf, Completesportsnigeria.com also scooped, will be joined in the Peoples Elephant technical crew by ex- international, Tijani Babangida.

Talks between Yusuf and the management of the Aba- based oufit had stalled over his request to be paid the N4m he was owed during his first stint at the club.

It appears both parties have now reached an agreement, and Yusuf will now link up with the two- time African champions as soon as he is through with his assignment with the home- Eagles in Rwanda.

Enyimba failed to renew the contract of Kadiri Ikhana, the man who led them to a seventh title last season.
Newly appointed assistant coach of the side, Aminu Musa is in temporary charge of the team.

Alimi: We’ll Win CHAN And Make Name For Ourselves

https://d1bez7r3o7wd77.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/image-13.jpeg
By Johnny Edward:
Super Eagles defender Jamiu Alimi is confident the Home Eagles will surpass their debut feat in‎ fort-coming Championship for African Nations to be held in Rwanda.

The home Eagles finished third in the competition in 2014 under former coach, Stephen Keshi, and the Shooting Stars defender who is one of the players expected to make their debut in the competition is banking on the team's collective will to succeed in Rwanda.

"No big names here. We just want to make names for ourselves and that will also make us do the extra and fight for each other to win the championship."

"We are not here to make up the numbers and ‎I believe we can go a step further in this competition by getting to the final," Alimi told Completesportsnigeria.com.

Alimi who is expected to partner Austin Oboarapko in the heart of the Eagles defence also added that the arrival of coach Sunday Oliseh in their Pretoria camp has further boosted the confidence of the players.

"Also the fact that the coach was already here before us has boosted the team further."

The Home Eagles arrived in South Africa on Saturday, and will play two pre-tournament friendlies against Angola and Cote d’ Ivoire.

They are in group C along with Tunisia, Niger Republic and Guinea‎.

Good to hear that from you Sir, at times you have to understand the politics that goes with players' selection in these Clubs before you outrightly bash the bench warmers, especially the Blacks.

That was one of the major reasons why Stephen Keshi kept faith with Mikel Obi and some of the not too impressive players who were not featured regularly in their Clubs.

Congratulations Mikel Obi.

Mikel Shines As Chelsea Spank Palace For Hiddink’s First Win

https://d1bez7r3o7wd77.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/IMG_20160103_163433.jpg
Mikel Obi posted a fine display on Saturday as Chelsea defeated Crystal Palace 3-0 in a Premier League clash at Selhurst Park.

The win was Guus Hiddink’s first of his second spell in charge of Chelsea.

Super Eagles star Mikel was solid in the Chelsea midfield and started the move that led to Oscar’s opening goal in the first half.

Mikel had 96% pass accuracy, won three tackles, had two blocks and one interception and was one of Chelsea’s outstanding players.

The Blues went into the match on a seven-game winless streak on the road, but goals from Oscar, Willian and Diego Costa ensured that they got 2016 off to an encouraging start in the first Premier League London derby of the year.

Eden Hazard was forced off early with an injury but that did not stop Chelsea from putting up a dominant performance.

Chelsea took the lead shortly before the half-hour mark, however, as Cesc Fabregas’s pass sent Diego Costa through down the right channel and the striker cut the ball back for Oscar to slide a simple finish into an unguarded net.

Ighalo can continue his goal rain next week.
i agreed he shall remain in watford
