The word "thrice" is old fashioned, outdated, antiquated and archaic. however does not exist in English again. the right word is 'three times" In addition to the above pointed listed, another thing point is prayer, which is the key point. if you apply the whole points in your study without prayer, it's hard to make your way out. |

Consistency is key as well. Map out time to study everyday (even if it's two hours) because somehow the brain needs to be active to function properly and that can only be done if you put it to work often. Reading today, till the next three days will not help. Been making that mistake but have been corrected and now I can virtually understand anything I read. Time management is another important point. If you don't control your time, you won't be able to read effectively. Tell your self the number of time you want to study for the day. Lets say six(6) hours. This is what you will do. Don't just read for the six hours without rest. Divide that six hours into three fractions of two (2) hours and allocate three different courses to each of the fractions and revolve it round till it covers all your courses and start over again in that order. Remembers to rest for about 10-15 minutes after each fraction of 2 hours elapses. Now to read, understand and recall effectively, read a sentence or a paragraph, paraphrase a question from what you have read and write the answer on a rough sheet of paper and it will register in your mind unknowingly. Watch your speed and do not be too in a hurry as this will impede your understanding. Take your time because every sentence you read carries an important point. It's a slow method of reading thats why you will need to read everyday to cover enough ground. When reading endeavour not to have anything of distraction by your side like phone or laptop because you can't do two things at the same time. When you follow this step, you will be surprise to recall effectively if any question is asked from the area you have read. I started this method recently and it's working wonders and the only regret I have is that I didn't discover early before now. If your have been reading before now and you've not been getting understanding, start all over from the scratch but endeavor to keep on scratching. Goodluck! |

moneyurch:hahaha ... I don't think this will work for science students. Abeg help me translate the following: 1) Hydrated iron(III)oxide (Fe2O3.H2O) 2) copper(II)tetraxosulphate(VI) 3) electromagnetic induction 4) propan 1, 2, 3 di - ol 5) alkane, alkanol, alkanals, 6) crystalloids 7) ions and molecules and so on ![]() I like your idea so much. In fact, i have thought about it, too. However, there's a great limit to the words one can translate. The problem is that, most of these scientific terms are words from other countries' languages; most of them don't even have English translations, talk less of yoruba, igbo or hausa translations. ![]() |

Different strokes for different folks. However, one thing everyone should have before reading to really understand is a calm, clear mind. |

Geofavor:you are right that most of them of latin and others, but i want to lookk at it from ths angle, ur(1) simply refers to iron, water and oxygen (2) na copa n sulphur (3) na when power wey de inside magnet de work, and so on so the basic thing is understanding it and making it fun, then to ur dialet, now for me i never had any issue with organic chm, or anytn chm as its just part of me, but i usually tell younger students to make a mental picture of structures, then just understand the use of terms to denote nature and number of bonds, and then family names and symbol, very interesting abi? |

moneyurch:yeah. Well, I get your point; that's how I study. I try as much as possible to understand in my own way: in my own words. So, I was thinking, have you ever seen a science textbook written in broken english? Someone once said, "the reason why the average Japanese are smarter than the average Nigerian is because the former read, study and learn in their native language, while the latter use a borrowed language".... |

Geofavor:smiles Geofavor i lv it to you to be the first to author a science text in pidgin, honestly that would make sense and funny, because that person who said it is right, happy reading |

I guess it's cos when u adopt the mind reading method, it's always easy for other Issues to. Filter into the mind and before u know it u are already thinking about several other things thereby disturbing the storage of the initial reading. But wen u read aloud other issues will find it difficult to creep in to the mind. I also guess u can easily learn more with group discussion where u will have to listen to some others thereby not hurting ur voice that much. #myownopinion inplay: |
