litgirl22: If Africans cannot even release themselves from the shackles of negative identities and concepts of self in the first place we can never be free.

I am African of a deep and melanated ebony color. Proud of a pure heritage that is not meddled with Euro-defined concepts of race.

I am not Black!

Its rather funny. I laugh it off. Interestingly, when I stayed in Egypt, when Arab Egyptians see us passing, especially their children, they call us Chkolata..... as in Chocolate man.

The world is strange place. Anyways, there is power in a spoken word. Connotation matters.

Awoofawo:

Ori e pee dada, I love your logic. What we as a race need to understand is that the most advance countries, are where they are today because of looking inward. China , Japan, German, Korea, even UAE etc their successes are/were base(d) on their wholeheartedly incorporating their culture in their quest for technology and national advancement.

Until we start using our mother tongues as medium of instructions , until we elevated our traditional mode of dressing to global acceptance, until we wholeheartedly embraced our oral traditions and religions.

Africa will forever remains in darkness of ignorance. Our collective duty should be in enlightening oursevle of the reality: the grand design of the white supremacy. :>

Very nice post. It is fundamental in nature. Sorry to say this, majority of Africans are lost in the wilderness. One who doesn't know their history cannot tell of their destiny.

I have heard from people on many occasion, when they see airplane in the sky, they LAMENT! "Ocha wu agbara".... which means that "White man is Spirit".

I try to tell them that come, if we put our heads together and have a real sense of purpose, we can do these things. They arrogantly shut you off by saying that, we "Blacks" are not wired that way. Quite surprisingly, you hear such degrading statements coming from graduates.

From culture to the real concept of beauty, we have all got it wrong in Africa. Our forefathers incorporated local cultures in their architectural works, making of dress, cooking utensils and so on. Where is that inspiration today? On the ground, we are trying to make people understand the significance and how far reaching such undertakings can go, but they look at you like you are insane. Out of touch with reality and call you a "Jew man"; whatever they mean by that. And I ask them: Are you living a reality? No! no! no! when the true Reality checks comes, they will know what it means to be realistic. Look around you, Africa is a very big plantation in the 21century. I don't need to go deeper on that, it won't contain here. But brother, organize a voluntary lecture in Logic and Critical thinking and see how many people will show up.

The African mind needs redemption from the bottom up. A mind is a terrible thing to waste. Just as Aristotle summed it up;

"A man's mind may be likened to a garden, which may be intelligently cultivated or allowed to run wild; but whether cultivated or neglected, it must, and will, bring forth. If no useful seeds are put into it, then an abundance of useless weed seeds will fall therein, and will continue to produce their kind". Aristotle.

Nevertheless, we have to continue spreading the message with tough love and objectivity.

The 1 billion naira food question is:

How do you cope as a non-conformist in a compromised value system and extremely materialistic society?

Dr. Umez's thoughts have historical proves.there is a document called d mandate dat was supposedly given to all d first african missionaries of the 1890s..and it was carelessly misplaved by one of d misionaries in kenya.........: d document in synopsis states:
1.teach them(africans) to read and not to reason.
2.teach them to focus and keep lookng unto the sky and neva into d ground
3. Teach them to believe in a supreme God and not their gods...
ETC etc
Inother words, d whites or colonial masters used religion to tactically get into d blackman land, they just taught our grand fore fathers to read, and dat was mainly the bible.they taught d 3Rs ...Read, Write and aRithmetics.....while our grandfore fathers exerted all their energies studyng the bible, d whites excerted all their energies developing scientifically.if u observe careful, most of the worlds invention were in d 1890 to the 1900s....
Til today, our schl curricum is built by them, evaluated by their methods and so on...and this is why there is a great difference bwteen our schls and theirs.

:::according to Phillips Emegwalli, his inventions are already been ascribed to a white, even though he is stil alive..then what happens in d next 50-100years when he's dead.

,this is not to say, d black race shud dye in d victim mentality, but these things will definately affect many of the blacks...and that's d point.

Yet, this is not what ds thread is about, its abt an educatnal system that is designed to make d receivers half-baked and has made many nigerian graduates ''graduates of History, and that's why they're not employbale in d local market not to mention d global market....nigerian don't knw contextual violatn and exaptation, so tell me how we can re-engineer what has been engineered........for those of u quoting eleanor rossevette ''no one can make u feel inferior without ur permison''let me ask u ds questn...''can ur house maid be equal to u in ur home setting? Ie in all of ur parents benevolence, can they treat ur maid as they'll treat u their child?
agree with u;they credited hippocrates(greek) rather than imhotep as the father of medicine.i heard black doctors swear to hippocrates' oath.if this is true we have a long way to go

fellis: ^That isn't just a theory. Black people are actually covertly being taught to believe that they are inferior mostly through the use of mass media. How many times have you actually seen any of these major foreign television stations potray Africa in a good light? It is always one depressing story or another. If they are not broadcasting news about the wars in some African countries then they are showing images or footage of starving and dying poor Africans.
Even when it comes to giving awards for literary work, you would notice that it is mostly the African authors that write on the darker sides of their countries that get international renown ( Chimamanda for instance). There are deliberate attempts to keep Africans down by downplaying their successes and highlighting their failures, that is the truth it is not a theory.

Well said

Afam4eva: Why won't they feel inferior when they're been taught something that's not yours. So, you would ordinary feel inferior to those who own what you're learning.

You're wrong. Miseducation means incomplete knowledge. For instance you were educated to know that the industrial revolution began in Europe. But you were not educated to know that black African Moors were responsible for bringing Europe to an appreciable level of civilization to initiate the industrial revolution. You were educated to know that a white man invented a car. But you were not educated to know that a black man invented metallurgy, discovered the mining of minerals without which a car would have been impossible. You were taught that the white man explored the world. But you were not taught that Africans and Asians were the first to engage in international trade, long before the white man emerged from his caves. You were taught that the white man built the Empire state building, but you were not taught that the black man built the pyramids and great temples of Nubia and Egypt, or the Eredo Earthworks in Ijebu Ode, or the Benin rampart - a 16,000 kilometre structure that remains till date, the largest single construction ever undertaken by man, utilizing more material in its construction than was used for the Great pyramid of Kufu in Giza, Egypt. Your mis-education means that although this rampart, visible from outer space, sits in your backyard, it is neglected and left to weeds and the elements, while you busy yourself worshipping the white man's history. That Benin rampart, if we were not mis-educated to feel inferior, would have had untold millions of dollars devoted to its restoration and preparation for massive tourist influx. But we just pretend it doesn't exist. We know more about Stonehenge, a tiny collection of rocks in Britain, than we know, or care to know about our own vaster achievements, such as the Eredo earthworks and the Benin rampart. That's part of the mis-education we're talking about.

X-factoria:

In Brooklyn, NYC for example, the streets are always littered with dirts just like you would find in Ibadan, Nigeria even when there are empty waste baskets everywhere and the people love it. They are cool with it.

Is this the truth? Brooklyn is not as clean as it should be mainly because of the system. Not empty thrash cans but overflowing thrash cans...why? How many times a day are the cans cleared in Brooklyn? In Manhattan and where many Whites live they are cleared even before they are filled. How often do they sweep the streets? How quickly do they remove the snow? How often do they resurface the streets? Resources are always quickly available when it comes to areas where Whites live and almost never in minority areas.Did you Mr Observer ever noticed when the Whites begin to move into Black neighbourhoods that the side walks are dug up and redone?...the streets are repaved and all street lights work? Stop giving the world the wrong impression about people in Brooklyn... that this is the way Black people live...and love living this way. Stop this your miseducation.

Guys we don't even need to go that far to understand that western education is propaganda mixed with misdirection wrapped in social engineering. The primary focus of this mix of garbage is to keep your focus firmly fixed upon their 'achievements' whilst at the same time making you feel sorry for your lack of contribution.

It is by design that history is always taught from their perspective and not ours, it is by design that they re-write the achievements of others to fit within their grand design. It does nothing to their narrative to acknowledge that Africa is the birthplace of civilization, it does not help their narrative to teach the fact that the oldest empires filled with learning, commerce, social discourse, philosophical exploits come from other races. What they had was bronze and copper and iron.

When we begin to fully grasp this and to grasp just how far and for how long that this has been going on, maybe then we can start to engage ourselves properly and start to ask some fundamental questions. That is when you understand that Nigeria and by extension Nigerians is a white mans construct, the lines that you see on the African map demarcating us are abitrary and work solely in their favor and not ours. That is when you realize that there really is no such thing as Ghana or Cameroon or Congo or all these other places, but that the WHOLE thing belongs to ALL OF US.

Why do you think Pan-Africanism is ridiculed and so much money is spent by the west making sure we have in place all these fools who have little understanding of how to govern themselves let alone a whole country. It is sad and the work is long and hard and I will be honest and say that time is running out, I would be even more honest by admitting that it is too late to do anything about it.

You are quite right..though i believe it is not too late yet. in fact now is the right time, If Africa can get hold of its resources and unite as Europe and North America is in economic mess we can literally pull them down if we are coordinated. the problem is that as you stated the Black man and especially Nigerians are too confused to make any move in the right direction.
Re: Blacks Are Educated To Feel Inferior - Dr Bedford Umez by Ugosample(m): 12:53pm On Oct 04, 2013
You see, this is the problem we have in Africa. Theree is no need to blame the white minority who misled their people into believing that they are superior becaause what has happened has happened. What we need to do is to forge ahead, desensitise yourself into believing that you can do it. Blacks or do I say Africans that determined that they can achieve surmounted the challenges and succeeded. Ben Carson is a worthy example. About our culture, I think it hhas to do with presentation. South korea among other asian countries are idol worshipers because of their presentation. Their shrines are proper buildings built with traditiional architecture and it is also very clean. Can thee same be said o our shrinnes? It is protrayed as dirty by our own media because in actual fact, it's dirty and unattractive. I we had proper buildings with traditional design it will be more appreciated.

Pull them down? You must be joking. Don't you know that if you pull them downn the ripple effeect would be disastrous to the African continent? Instead of working out a frame work that will integrate western technology with locaal innovations and intellegence, as the Asian tigers are doing, to gain the respect of the world and to be seen as equals and not beggars, you are advocating for pull down? Think!

African as a continent with its resources and population does not have to be affected by any economic disaster anywhere else apart from Africa.
And yess we can pull them down if we are coordinated and we want to.It could be as devastating as we want it to be. if we want half of their populations to starve we can do it easily if we have the coordination.

Do you think Africa feeds the world? That's a joke! The Western countries are developing synthetic substitutes to our major cash crop exports. If Africa wants to develop, we have to improve Intra regional trade in Africa, Diversify our economies, and be united. If these are lacking, NO DEVELOPMENT.

It is now obvious that you don't know what tilts national economies and the structure which those economies feeds on.

Nobody says that Africa is going to stop feeding somebody here but I will like to give you a clue so maybe you can understand REAL economics more better.

The USA produces enough food to feed twice its population and still have more to give away, now can you tell us why there are so many poor starving people in USA and they have to resort to food stamps ?
If they are in abundance why is the food stamps itself being threatened? Why can't they just give away food. Why are many homeless and why are many complaining ?

Mind you we are not talking about food but real economics, I just want you to research and learn some useful things for yourself.

A few tweaks here and there and some nations will cry, all Africa needs is co-ordination.

i think its possible to organize, our collective interest if we as a people realize that we need to get ahead. It would take people o have aa appropriate mindset and world leaders with a shared mindset..if those leaders in the right countries(with folks that are black.) Thy would sit and lectur in different countries, to show and teach people to have pride and care about blacks collectively...if we think collectively black people would be happier.....and a lot things would change...

There is no miseducation.

We have just experienced value systems that have tended to reinforce an inferiority complex (for instance, our cultures naturally place premium on foreign cultures). In fact a few of our systems actually encourage a superiority complex but a failure to be able to express this into English or demonstrate superior economic management and science in political economy is what is largely undermining whatever sense of superiority might have been achieved.

Also even in systems with obvious problems, the elites in any black society are not usually willing to give way to competent people to drive their community's greatness. In fact during the early independence years in AFRICA, such people were eliminated by imprisonment and left to die in sickness and neglect (with largely the exception of Mandela and a few others under twisted circumstances).

Africans have not evolved from the illusion of the absoluteness of their leaders, which the whites, Asians and recently, some Arab nations have emerged from.

It will take a combination of education and common interests that go beyond our ethnic and religious barriers for now. Until then, the transition continues.

N.B Note that Obama is not a product of this system. This made it easy for him to be easily accepted and for him to de-emphasise the victimist mentality that continues to plague most black Americans.

Wonderful submission

2.teach them to focus and keep lookng unto the sky and neva into d ground
3. Teach them to believe in a supreme God and not their gods...
ETC etc
