You Have Earned The Bragging Right. by verlossing(op):
I detest ethnic bashing which has made me to avoid threads that has any ethnic connotation but after reading the Joe Igbokwe thread I am forced to open this. What I am about to say I am sure that many people won't like it and some are going to call me names but for your information do not waste your time because I won't respond.

I am calling out everyone on NL and elsewhere who will turn every thread and every single discussion into Igbo bashing and name calling, read my lips : THE IGBOS HAVE EARNED THE BRAGGING RIGHT.

To all Igbos out there read this:

If you have traveled to Lagos just with the clothe on your back, and ended up setting up a successful business no matter how small it is, as long as you don't take handout from anyone or do panhandling, you pay your bills and do not depend on government money YOU HAVE EARNED A BRAGGING RIGHT. It is not easy to leave your home go to an 'alien' land set up business and make something out of it.
If the 'Lagosians' and the 'haters' think it is easy they should try running their lace, ewa and bread and whatever business they do in Onitsha main market or Ogbete market. If and when they have left their hideout and went down to the east and compete successfully with the traders down there then they can brag or else they should keep still. Any Igbo trader in Ladipo, Oshodi wherever in Lagos doing genuine business YOU HAVE EARNED YOUR BRAGGING RIGHT.

Any Igbo man doing business in Kano who has lost his/her business at one point in time in Kano, but still prevail, YOU HAVE EARNED A BRAGGING RIGHT. Any business man that had faced obstacles in running his/her business up North but did not give in and went ahead to run a success business YOU HAVE EARNED A BRAGGING RIGHT.

To any Igbo man/woman doing business in the remote down of Fika, Machina or Mongonou or any other remote areas in the North or anywhere else in Nigeria, and has been doing fine, picking your bills without waiting for government handout or for someone to create employment for you, YOU HAVE EARNED A BRAGGING RIGHT.

To those who think the Igbos are greedy, domineering and arrogant, that is your problem. As history has taught us and as life as shown us, life gives no one nothing, you have to take it.
So we will keep taking from life we will keep squeezing it from life, whenever and wherever we find it. Been it in the lagoon, we gonna get it! Be it in the most remote part of China, we gonna get it! Be it in Osogbo, Ogun, Akure, Lagos, Maiduguri, Yobe, Sokoto , Zamfara we will look for it and we will take it. So WE HAVE EARNED THE BRAGGING RIGHT and the RIGHT TO DOMINATE whatever and wherever we conquer.

If you lot are contented with what life has dole out to you and you expect the Igbos to be as well, then sorry to disappoint you, we are not and we will never be until we take as much as we can from life. That is our motto! Waiting for the Igbos to become complacent or accept being kicked around by life while waiting for federal allocation is like waiting for the Lion to stop feeding on flesh and start feeding on grass. No matter how bad the situation is a lion can not become herbivorous to please its prey the worst is that it will prey on the biggest and baddest prey there is in the wild no matter their size or numbers.

So as long as you guys keep making life difficult for my brothers and sisters who are doing genuine businesses all around Nigeria, they will continue to rise and conquer and that earns them A BRAGGING RIGHT.
If you think demolishing, burning their shops branding them 'lovers' of money will deter them, them you are dreaming.

Gone are the days of free education and government employment immediately after graduation, now the figures are begging to align in terms who is taking life my the balls. To our parents who lost everything after the civil war but has worked hard to ensure we catch up, over take and become something in life, YOU ALL HAVE EARNED THE BRAGGING RIGHT. And the kids that have made their parents and ala-Igbo proud, YOU HAVE EARNED THE BRAGGING RIGHT.

To all my Igbo brothers and sisters doing genuine business in every corner of world and who has made something out of their life no matter how small you have EARNED A BRAGGING RIGHT for not waiting on your asses for the government or some sort of miracle to happen before venturing out. Umu Igbo keep rising, keep succeeding, and keep being Nwa Igbo and let them know you have come all the way from the East to conquer and to take as much as you can from life. We are raised to conquer not to be owned, we are raised to be free not to be in chains and we are raised like the lions, only the strong survives, for that we have EARNED A BRAGGING RIGHT.

If standing up for ourselves, taking a position and speaking our mind irrespective who's horse is gored makes us arrogant, them we have EARNED THE RIGHT TO BE ARROGANT as well.

Today I want to tell every Igbo and every hater on NL that the Igbos have EARNED THE RIGHT TO BRAG and going forward I am not going to explain myself to you again why we brag and why it is our right to brag and why it is your right to keep hating.

Chukwu gozie umu-Igbo! God bless Nigeria!

One thing I love about igbos is there determining spirit to excel. My grand father once marvelled att there abilities. For instance, after the civil war, a lot of came to warri with nothing. Usually they will come in twos or three to one room apart and survive mostly through minial Jobs like night soil men, obioma, and so on. Gradually they raised money and went into trade. Time was in warri, when ever u want to buy anything cloths, u go to Igbo market apart from kingsway . they have a knack for controlling any kind of business from spare parts to building materials, to electrical etc. If u come to macdemott road in the time past, theirs no kind of oil and gas equipments u don't see them selling. From having nothing after the war, a lot of them prospered and became millionaires. The likes of bonsue, popular, chumatec, donasulu, charlesco etc all came with nothing but all ended up as multimillionaires.many from living in room apart started buying lands and moving into their own apartments.
In most places I have met Igbos, its almost the same story. From, kano,Kaduna, jos, Lagos, abuja, angola, south Africa to China its the same story. I met an Igbo man in lekki Lagos who told me the drug business is over 30 billion USD a year business and the their cartel controls over 5 billion USD of it. The info I got from him is not the kind of stuff one presents here. I was in china in 2010 for business and I was shocked to discover Igbo are building factories in China. From electronics to apparels. I met one ifeanyi guy that owns a candle factory in China and he supplies candle world over. His workers run shift night and day. In angola , apart from Nigerian expertrate that work for the oil majors, I met the Igbo man on ground and they are already occupying business space there. They have spread all over Africa and they are doing great. I believe other Nigerians have a lot to learn from these guys that's if pride will let us. The can smell opportunities a million miles away.

If only we could all learn from every tribe Nigeria would be great but for some unknown reason people just focus on the negatives.

Well, I just hope YOUR BRAGGING RIGHTS will not draw you back to square 1 as experienced by your ancestors in 1967.

If you must brag, just make sure you do it in your closet! grin

What marveled me is that they don't see it as a crime but as a business. They don't do drugs but only supplies to the users. The dude in question, u will never believe he is into drigs , how much more a Barron. He pays his tithe regularly and according to him in dollars. He was willing to raise me 10 million USD cash in buying a dp2 anchor handling vessel. But I quietly avoided his offer after he opened up to me.
