I still don't understand the importance of this obas other than upholding incongruous culture & traditions.

They haven't brought about any progress or development in any shape or form whatsoever. They probably lack ideas. Most of them are divisive figures and political arse lickers, the reason they are pawns in the hands of robber politicians in the scheme of things.

Corrupt Obas.

I believe the Yoruba culture & tradition require an upgrade, I mean a facelift in order to be attractive to our generation.

You should know that parts of our culture/tradition are repressive & there's no room for such in our modern day society.

Shikena:

It depends on the version of history that you believe. The Yoruba land of today is not the Yoruba land of 300 or 400 years ago. It is a new civilization. Let the Ooni uphold and promote what Ooni stands for and let the Alaafin do the same with the institution of the Alaafin.
This new development ushered in by Ooni Enitan should be cherished and promoted! Long live the Alaafin and the Ooni.

Honestly if you want to go by history, Ooni has ever been superior than any Alaafin. The so called strive started between this immediate past Ooni and the current Alaafin and I believe the strive was just a personal beef between those two. In the image below, that's Oba Aderemi(Ooni) presenting the current Alaafin of Oyo(Adeyemi) a letter of right to the throne while Alaafin himself bowed down to collect it.

Micronut, if u don't know how to use the correct word in addressing a royalty i suggest u do a proper research. Addressing the Alaafin of Oyo as his imperial majesty only makes u sound pathetic, it is only an emperor ruling over an empire that is address as an imperial majesty. The Oyo empire collapse even before the colonial Era. Secondly an imperial majesty is subjected to no other authority but the alaafine of Oyo is subjected to an Authority even in his own DOMAIN (the governor of Oyo state), and he is also subjected to the office of the presidency. Pls choose ur words correctly next time

I am really impressed by this peace gesture from the Arole Oodua, he has clearly demonstrated that he is indeed a bridge builder and an excellent Youth Ambassador. We will be lucky to have more excellent youths in the mold of Ooni Ogunwusi in corridor of power.

Kade pe l'ori sir.

Before the advent of British colonialism, these obas were in total charge of their subjects. Criminals were rightly punished either directly by d kings or by invoking d wrath of d gods. Honesty was esteemed. Questionable wealth was disdained. Virgins were celebrated. Rape was a taboo. To me d only minus to their rule was d practice of human sacrifice. Despite their lack of formal education then they ruled so efficiently that Lord Lugard had to coopt them into his governance through his Indirect Rule System. Going by your moniker a derogatory statement such as u have above calls to question your right to go by such a moniker. Kabiyesi oo Oonirisa. kade pe Lori ki bata pe lese. Ki irukere o dokini. U just added another feather to your cap by this move.

However controversial my views may seem, it doesn't change the fact that parts of our culture & traditions are repressive and backward. I believe an upgrade is achievable only if we embrace modernization as a people...I hope you get my drift.

May I also use this opportunity to show you that I equally appreciate where your traditional dogma lies but things can only get better IMO.
