AF Nigeria Nigeria Premier League 2015 Sunshine Stars Stephen Eze for suspended Obaroakpo as Oliseh picks winning Eagles by Samm Audu In the absence of suspended Austin Obaroakpo, Sunshine Stars defender Stephen Eze will play alongside Jamiu Alimi in the heart of the Super Eagles back four in CHAN clash against Niger on Monday. Obaroakpo, who coach Sunday Oliseh has likened to ‘Gentle Giant’ Uche Okechukwu, will miss the Niger game after he was booked in both legs of the qualifier against Burkina Faso. Eze has played in all the test matches leading up to this tournament and the delayed arrival of Lobi Stars defender Samson Gbadebo has further enhanced his chances of starting for the Eagles. Skipper Chima Akas and Orji Kalu will keep their places at left and right fullbacks respectively with Sunshine goalkeeper Ikechukwu Ezenwa in goal. The midfield will most likely have Paul Onobi, Bartholomew ‘Mosquito’ Ibenegbu, Ifeanyi Matthew with either Bature Yaro or Osas Okoro. Nigeria U23 star Usman Mohammed has lost his place to the more experienced ‘Mosquito’. Sunshine Stars striker Tunde Adeniji will lead the attack and he will most likely be partnered by Ezekiel Bassey from Enyimba. Possible Eagles starting XI Ikechukwu Ezenwa – Chima Akas (Skipper), Orji Kalu, Jamiu Alimi, Stephen Eze – Paul Onobi, Ifeanyi Matthew, Bature Yaro of Osas Okoro – Tunde Adeniji, Ezekiel Bassey africanfootball.com/news/602256/Stephen-Eze-for-suspended-Obaroakpo-as-Oliseh-picks-winning-Eagles |

NFF chiefs arrive Rwanda, urge Eagles to win CHAN https://africanfootball.com//bp_images/2016/01/Samm_22_October_1_580x473.jpg NFF President Amaju Pinnick Top NFF officials led by president Amaju Pinnick have tasked the Super Eagles to get off to a winning start in their opening match against Niger on their way to winning the 2016 CHAN. The powerful delegation included sports minister Solomon Dalung, Pinnick, vice-presidents Seyi Akinwunmi and Shehu Dikko as well as reappointed NFF technical committee chairman Chris Green. This further underlined the country’s determination to improve on a third-place finish two years ago in South Africa. The NFF boss addressed the squad at their Hill View Hotel in Kigali, assuring the team that all their allowances and bonuses are guaranteed and all they had to do now was to go all the way in Rwanda. http://africanfootball.com/news/602467/NFF-chiefs-arrive-Rwanda-urge-Eagles-to-win-CHAN |

The team is set up well and the boys are well coached. We can not fault Coach Oliseh's team selection or his tactics. Aggreh showed brilliance of the ball. Onobi and Ifeanyi Matthew have combined well. The defence have done well in keeping the opponent's attack quiet. The main problem we have is Adeniji and I hope Coach Oliseh sees this. When we have the ball most times, Adeniji makes runs to receive a through pass but the Niger team is playing a high line and he is caught offside. When we have the ball, Adeniji should fall back to meet the midfield and we exploit with the pace of Okoro and Aggreh. |

Onobi and Aggreh have played well but Ifeanyi Matthew have performed with Absolute class. Impressive passmaster and a true contender to break into the Super Eagles. Coach Oliseh should advise his attacking players to be more patient and trust their midfielders to get the ball to them when they make the right runs. |

Many should not think these lads are having an easy game. The Niger side is quite good. Their midfielders are fantastic with excellent long balls in their arsenal. Chikatara looks superb with his brace. Ifeanyi Matthew, Okoro killing it. Man of the match so far is Okoro. *** Chikatara wasted two good chances because of his selfishness. Coach Oliseh has to work on it. The Niger side is a good side and their play and tactics is top notch. These Niger boys play long balls like it is Moi Moi. *** This is impressive. Good performance from the Super Eagles. Fantastic coaching from Boss Oliseh and his crew. Chikatara is a finishing beast with well timed Runs. Brilliant Midfield performance and Man Of the Match Chikatara. *** What is most impressive about this win is that the Niger team did not play poorly. They were not good in the final third but their ball movement and game play was good. Boss Oliseh and his crew pulled off a good one here and I hope the lads and the Super Eagles perform better. |

TheGoodJoe:Chikatara scored 3goals and not a brace. I have always followed that guy, Chikatara from Abia warriors. I remember how he took d NPFL by storm during d 2013/2014 season when Abia warriors newly got promoted. Though he suffered a deep in form this jst concluded season. I expected him to b part of the U23 prio to mow. Nt jst bc of his performance today, I rate him higher than Junior Ajayi. Hey! The boy is 21! Hope Siasia is watching? Ifeanyi Mathew is one of the rising stars of the NPFL. I see that boy going places. For an 18yrs old u cannot bt applaud his every move and passes. When he was dropped from the U23 team, I raised a question: Is the U23 stronger than d the CHAN Eagles team. Mathew couldnt break into d U23 team and see him bossing d midfield in CHAN. I think Siasia should give him another opportunity bt he has Okechukwu Azubuike to compete with of which i feel d later is better. Ifeanyi Mathew is still eligible for U20. But again Azubuike Okechukwu and Kelechi Nwakali are also eligible. Twill b a tough competition for the lads. Prince Aggrey I think was also a member of the U23 bt was dropped along d line. |

Icon4s:I was posting the some comments I made on the Match thread. When I made that comment, Chikatara had not scored the third goal. |

In all seriousness this team can qualify us to the nations cup if we work with them, i see no obvious weeknesses. Shout out to my main man Prince Finidi Aggrey. |

TheGoodJoe:U see yourself, now u got me hungry for moi moi lol. How do u feel about Oliseh always pulling a player before half time? I think it might be making the others too nervous. |
| Re: Super Eagles Of Nigeria Thread: 2017 AFCON Qualifiers. by TheGoodJoe(m): 8:08pm On Jan 18, 2016 |
BascoVanVeli: I think that was an injury case today. If not, then maybe he sees it as a warning to motivate other players. "If you do not impress me, I will take you out." Different coaches have different philosophies. At the end if he perfects his philosophy, he will get results with it. |
| Re: Super Eagles Of Nigeria Thread: 2017 AFCON Qualifiers. by BascoVanVeli(m): 8:29pm On Jan 18, 2016 |
TheGoodJoe:He has too much of a penchant for this move. He did it against Chad and also in a friendly before this match. He took out a central back and lets be honest it literarily took a miracle for Niger to score, we even gifted them the ball one on one and their guy couldn't shoot with his right. Now imagine if we didn't score that first goal that sub might have ended up being needed. Anyhow sha to each his own i shall surport and pray Oliseh looks like a genius because then we would be winning. |

Interesting stat: Chisom Elvis Chikatara is the "SECOND" player to bag a hattrick in the history of the CHAN tournament since its first edition in 2009. The only other player to have achieved this feat is Given Singuluma of Zambia in a 3-0 win over the Ivory coast at Chan 2009. He went on to top-score with 5 goals as Zambia finished 3rd. |
