Nigerians living abroad should be taxed too. After all, United States citizens residing and working abroad pay taxes to the US govt |

austinvsb1:Yes you're right in that regard. All hands should be on deck to revive our economy. However, it's discouraging to know that the developmental levies have historically ended up in only some leaders' bank accounts and the common man that needs it most is still being ripped off in his dire state. |

Mr OP if a nigerian pays 23k for electricity, how much does he earn? |
| Re: Nigerians: You Live In A Paradise And Dont Even Know It! by Babe2sure(f): 7:01am On Jan 20, 2016 |
austinvsb1:I'm positive about this administration too. Yeah, I agree. People will have to contribute their own quota to national development through payment of taxes. It should be a joint effort. Government cannot do it alone. |
| Re: Nigerians: You Live In A Paradise And Dont Even Know It! by Abagworo(m): 7:05am On Jan 20, 2016 |
Nigerians lack the basic understanding of collective efforts. We see Government as aliens with mystic powers to provide everything we need without any personal contribution. People use garbage to fill up drainage and expect Government to come clear it for them or accuse Government of causing the resultant flooding. |
| Re: Nigerians: You Live In A Paradise And Dont Even Know It! by jameseva: 7:08am On Jan 20, 2016 |
Junior66:No one is asking you to pay 23k for electricity right now.. But if you want the economy to develop to the level where an average nigerian can afford to pay 23k comfortably, then you have to take the 50 naira taxes seriously now! Its simple!! |

jayfolarin:your post is flawed, total error, where you live, you are seeing what you pay for. in Nigeria, the ones we pay are being looted and stolen. We pay for light we don't use, sometimes Over estimated bills. let the government judiciously use the ones we have paying now, we will be glad to pay more. Not paying taxes and it ends in a politicians pocket. |

Abagworo:out of order, the government is incharge of enforcing laws, let them enforce it and defaulters prosecuted. eg, WAI, LAWMA, etc in Lagos |

Can someone push this to front page? Cc: lalasticlala @op u r right. Nigerians want the best but are not ready to pay for it. You get what you pay for. How do u think developed countries( especially those with out oil, etc) survive and can make life comfortable for their citizens? Stop being stingy: Pay your taxes Pay electricity bills Pay fines Pay the government what is theirs I believe under this dispensation Nigerians will feel safer giving their money to government. |

I really do understand where the OP is coming from. It feels like a lot of people think government has unlimited resources. People need to start thinking of contributing their quota. I saw a post that said until $1 equals N150, does this mean someone is actually waiting around, folding his arms for the government to wave a magic wand for that to happen? How do people not understand that we all have to contribute towards this happening. This is time for Nigerians to get creative not wait for government. Oil prices have caused devaluation of naira, nothing the government can do about that. Going back to op, while you made good points theta also some naivety in your comments. The problem is two fold, first is Nigerians don't want to pay, second is the government steals all they can. Second reason has made citizens distrust the government that they don't think that money they're paying will be put to good use. If the government can manage effectively what they have and build trust, I think it'll be easier to convince people to pay more. If you slap extra charges on something and I don't see any improvement, meanwhile it seems you're getting richer then I feel cheated and then don't want to pay anymore. End of the day, Nigerians have to have a mindset of contributing more towards the National purse, then most important government needs to build trust. |

Where would an aggregate Nigerian hey N23 000 from? Is not because of better social services that we have a government and we also pay taxes? |

This is a clear case of 'robbery'. If a government's minimum wage is low compared to what obtains in other countries, if a country is unable to reduce unemployment rate, if a country is unable make things relatively easy for her citizens then the sacrifices towards correcting these ills must begin with the government. Slash budgetary allocations to non-profit yielding things such as extravagant cars, feeding, govt house sports, animals etc. Slash salary of public officials to a larger extent. Reduce size of government - Senate & Reps na pure redundancy, cancel one and allocate the salaries and allowances to other things. Having set above examples and more then you can tax us to death, we will comply. The OP and his co-travellers, out of wanting to form 'exposed' or maybe out of being APC idi0ts have refused to face the realities with the Nigerian state. This is the FG's way of making the masses bear the weight of the 5,000 naira stipend since we won't let it go. ![]() @Jayfolarin |

austinvsb1:The problem is not the payung of taxes. The problem is the mechanism thay ensures that each indivdual pays his or her specificed tax as at when due.. that mechanism is missing and this is the reason i would clamour for a central database of the population with social security inclusive! |

@Op u are really very funny but let me ask you just one question, if Nigeria is to be your so called "paradise" why not relocate down here and enjoy it with us? Until our government wakes up to his responsibilities, all what u have stated up there is not really a BIG deal. |

jayfolarin The government has not accounted for the gazillions of dollars looted by successive governments since independence. Our oil has been used to enrich the elite while the masses remain impoverished. They had an opportunity to make a difference over the years but they failed to. In those civilized countries you speak of, government officials are accountable to the people. Even the misappropriation of one hundred dollars is enough for a government official to lose his job and face charges. The average Nigerian household is a local government on its own. The average Nigerian provides light for himself (generator), provides his own water (boreholes), etc. We provide for ourselves amenities that the government ought to provide for us. I'd rather pay a toll on a good road than pay Kazeem to fix my car which has been battered by the death traps we call roads. Nothing good comes for free, but the problem is that once the government starts obtaining more money from the citizenry, there is overwhelming evidence to show that the money will be embezzled as usual. They should first of all bring development (not with their personal money as you sarcastically stated) with budgeted funds, before having the moral right to ask for more. |

), Nigerians live on the cheap and want to keep up with the expensive! No! It doesn't work that way! You have to pay for developments that leads to a robust economy which in turn leads to higher standard of living (Job creation, Increment in Minimum wage, Good roads, healthcare facilities etc)..
