The surties though could deposit documents of properties that's what the amount or a bond. No be wetin we supposed de argue na. there is a lot of corruption in the judiciary, the surety deposits the money, the court invest the money for the duration of the case (say 4-5 years or more), the court returns the money back to the surety after the case without the interest. 1 Like |

Geist: Op is correct . the money for bail or its equivalent is used as a collateral in case the accused jumps bail. It's laughable that people think the money is paid cash 1 Like |

Re: What Bail Conditions Really Mean by mrmetoo1: 5:20pm On Jan 22, 2016 |
From what I know I think the money has to be paid. In the US for example Bail Bondsman is good businesses. What happens is you pay the bonds guy 10% of your bail which is non-refundable, while he in turn puts up the entire bail and pays to the court. Now, where the risk is, if the accused jumps bail then no refund for Bonds man. The profit comes from the 10% if the guy shows up to court, meaning bonds man will be refunded the bail money. Advantage to the accused is, all you have to do is come up with just 10% rather than going everywhere looking for the entire sum. Now with all these EFCC cases everywhere setting up a Bail Bonds agency might not be a bad idea. 4 Likes 1 Share |

soldierdollar:the money can be paid in whatever manner stated by the court. If it says cash, then cash it is. If it says properties, then properties it is. If it says cash but properties in like sum can be used in place, then that's it. The most important thing here is that the the court must be in possession of the money or property (whichever the case is) before the accused is released. 2 Likes 1 Share |
Re: What Bail Conditions Really Mean by Mynd44: 5:28pm On Jan 22, 2016 |
modath:Actually, the accused is supposed to deposit the bail money or CofO with the court before he is allowed to go. If he does not jump bail, he gets his money after the trial. If he jumps bail, you know the rest. 2 Likes |
