It is. However it's not going to be cannibalised.

Chinese new WS-13 engine for JF-17 is almost ready. NAF has two choices of engines. JF-17 offers Nigeria technology transfer on how to build a 4th generation jet fighter, J-10 does not offer that. Tech transfer is priceless and a great reward.
grin grin grin grin grin grin

Industrial participation would be better as building jets is not for everyone. There's a reason why jet engines designed and produced by a handful countries.

It's unbelievable how you South-Africans think to be honest.
The reason you're acquiring that turkey is because of the warm relations between Pakistan and Nigeria. Is that what are saying?

Not doctrine, defence policy, operational requirements and costs.

We sure won't be struggling to raise 9 pilots for our fleet after 16 years.

We also won't be paying $65 million dollars a unit for planes which are essentially JF-17s, unlike a certain air force in Southern Africa.

That's the thing, in an ambush, they'll all die. The weather alone is enough to even break them.

The best vehicle i've seen is definitely the vehicle proforce is offering for it's Special Combat Vehicle category. My only problem is, there is no provision for a GPMG for the front passenger gunner.

The Gurza 2 from Azerbaijian is also nice, but it does provide enough protection.

Pound for pound, the Gurza 2 satisfies on all parameters and is the best SF vehicle I've ever seen.
They're unlikely to fall into ambushes. As they operate mostly outside the battlefield.

If they do those vehicles carry a heavy punch.

What did the Selous scouts use during Operation Eland?

- Prove the Aircraft Electronics in the Gripen are better than on the JF-17
- the JF-17 carries Air-to-Air, Air-to-Ground, Anti-Shipping missiles.
- Thrust in both Aircrafts are thesame.

A. Operates inferior weapons needs to be upgraded to use other weapons. Raising costs.

- Similar to your ipad or computer operating system you won't have certain features or use some applications if you're stack with a previous operating system. With that said to use say 5th generation missiles like the IRIS-T SRAAM you'll need "certain features" to use them. So your country will have to pay millions for this.

- Mostly which are inferior to what is available in the market. Like in terms of air to air weaponry it is limited to Chinse and a few Brazilian AAMs. Nothing impressing besides the PL-12.

- The RD-93 is just problem. One SA company fitted the original one the 33 on a Mirage.

- Gripen has better radar

- So do all modern jets, and lots of old ones

- Thrust of the JF-17 is 18,300lbf(8300kgf) according to the people who make the engine. Which is dramatically inferior to the Gripen. The JF-17 has to use emergency power just to get off the ground.

What a load of rubbish!

- The JF-17 features an open architecture and is designed to be very modular.

- It's primary weapons is the 70km range PL-12 Medium Range Air-to-Air missile. With a a fire-and-forget active guidance capability comparable to the modern U.S. AIM-120 AMRAAM.

- It carries a wide panolpy of advanced weapons, giving each airforce a large variety to choose from.

- Similar to any system, it can always be up-graded, if the a/B model of the JF-17 is similar in capabilities to the C/D model of the Gripen, the prospects of the C/D model of the JF-17 seem limitless.

- One SA company equals insignificant. What is important is the manufactures of the JF-17 are significantly satisfied with the performance of the RD-93.

- No it doesn't have a better radar

- According to the PAF which uses the RD-93, anywhere in the world the performance of the engine is brilliant. According to the stats, the Gripen engine and that of the JF-17 provide almost the same output.

7 Gripen crashes doesn't really show an engine that's better.

- I said it was inevitable. The Jet has a performance that matches the Gripen, and we are talking about the block 1.

- the stats are flawed according to you. The manufacturer says otherwise.

1. Yes, but the "architecture" is not readily compatible with other "operating systems" (using generic terms)

2. Not even Pakistan operate the PL-12
http://defence.pk/threads/pakistan-air-force-weapon-system.42231/

3. So do lots of platforms... problem is that it is not cleared for any western weapons

4. There is no evidence whatsoever to claim that it is comparable to the Gripen C/D. Any aversions to comparability are due to Nigerian obsession with claiming dominance in SSA.

1. 70km range for a RCS of 3m...

2. No, according to the manufacturer its performance only matches the Gripen in Emergency Power mode.

3. How many Grip crashes due to the Engine?

4. Facts are facts, RD-33 burns out quickly.

Dude, why must everything be a competition? If you just said "we got the JF-17, it is a good jet, we are happy" no one would disagree. But if you start trying to compare it to the Grip we will shoot you down... because it is not comparabale to the Grip. The only thing the two platforms have in common is that they are single engine... not even the same class of jet, one is an interceptor with multi-role tendancies and the other is a swing-role fighter.

1. No, the performance does not match the Grip. I find it to be quite indicative of your motivations to be comparing it to the Grip

1a. You literally just told us you purchased it because of relations with Pakistan.... how do you know it is the best for your needs without competition? UAE has excellent relations with the US, but they held open competition for their new IFV and guess what... BMP3 was found to be the best for their needs.

2. Yes, the manufacturer says the stats are wrong.

Yes, this is a thread for photographs, not wild unsubstantiated claims.

But I know you, if you could have backed up what you said with a citation you would have.

And asking for some concrete information is not arguing - it is questioning.

The South-Africans bought a JF-17 for $67 million a unit, now they are pissed off. I mean....... i won't blame them, even i would be pissed.

Hence you see them making completely ridiculous comments like the JF-17 is an interceptor with multi-role tendencies, while the Gripen is a Swing-role fighter. ............. South-African delusion at it's finest.

They've struggled to raise common 9 pilots for their 26 Gripens in the last 16 years.

JF-17: a 3rd gen day-time interceptor (according to the Chinese and Janes):
Pakistan is offering the JF-17 for a low price ($25 million in the cheapest configuration) and touts the fact that this is a third the price of an F-16. But this is comparing apples and oranges. The low end JF-17 is little more than a day time interceptor.

With Pakistani prime minister Nawaz Sharif scheduled to visit Sri Lanka in the first week of January 2016, efforts to secure an agreement in principle for the sale of the JF-17 Thunder - a third-generation fighter
http://www.janes.com/article/56924/pakistan-pushes-for-jf-17-sale-to-sri-lanka

While the Gripen is a 4th gen swing-role fighter
The Gripen is described as a 4th generation swing-role fighter aircraft.
http://www.af.mil.za/equip/aircraft/gripen.htm

Facts are that not even China want to buy your "$25 million Gripen" and Argentina chose the 1970s Kfir over the JF-17.
