Just saw a documentary on an indeginous citizen of australia who spearheaded the call for self determination of his people as a nation on Aljazeera's "Eye witness" program. I was amazed how a high school graduate was able to channel his cause without anyone losing his or her life. Lesson for some people.

Oh really? 4 years after Lugard created Nigeria, Czechoslovakia broke away from the Austro-Hungarian empire in 1918 and became a sovereign nation. After many years, in 1992, the Czechs said to the Slovaks

'I want my own country'
The Slovaks replied 'no worries, let's shake hands and remain friends'

Both sides became the Czech Republic and The Republic of Slovakia on January 1st 1993.

There was no noise making.

In Africa, whenever someone says 'I want my own country'

you do have a point tho, partly maybe because none of us has ever tried breaking away, the notion sounds weird and you know, that means it's already a culture, a bond, it would really be hard for everyone to agree on it, i don't particularly see the big deal, the IGBOS have been fighting over this Biafra thing for a long time, my closest friends, 2 are ibos and they are so down to earth and cool, maybe it's the Lagos factor but they don't really do the Biafra talk, which ever ways, let's avoid blood shed, unless there is an ulterior motive behind all these, if they really want to go, let them go. we could still be brother countries but at least we would all be happy.
