This man sacked almost 3000 workers about three weeks ago and yet came here to complain that the state is broke.

Rochas is a thief! stop calling a spade, fork. call a spade a spade.

Ebonyi state that doesn't receive the same revenue like IMO is getting transformed and workers salaries are paid as and when due yet this IMO thief is busy talking trash that there is no money.

Well....he is certainly corrupt....but that is for the courts.

But....thief or no thief...the price of Nigeria's major earner...oil...has fallen.Back when oil price was as high as $112....no one bothered about corruption. Now that it is at $32....we are all bothered.

Thing is....we may have to investigate how Imo has been run since Rochas took over. We also have to face the cold fact that things are going to get a lot tighter...unless you have a means of persuading the Saudis to increase oil prices again....not that that is going to happen.

I could call Rochas corrupt....and by the way....I am not his fan,and never was.

But that does not change the fact that our state system is broken....the payroll is overloaded....and the treasury is broke. We were never a rich nation to begin with. Even if we saved during GEJ time...we would at best reach $100bn in the treasury......not much compared to Saudi's 724BN dollars....124bn of which has gone.

Right now in Iraq....government workers are now being paid every six weeks. I won't be surprised if Nigeria follows suit. We are broke...because since we got independent....most of you Nigerians have preferred to sell raw materials...and share the money. Developing an industrial economy you won't do because you don't want to.

His level of cluelesssness in governance is high up there in the 3rd heaven..no developmental plan for the state at all; he just come on screen and say whatever get to his imagination. Pls God take this plague away from our state.

The governor suspended 3000 workers without pay for no singular reason.
Issued a directive that there shall be no more employment
Has incapacitated the general Hospital after instructing medical personnel to go home
Oweing workers over 6 months salary..pensioners are the worst

Infact.. the whole state has been crippled and everyone is suffering. Other governors are working yet he keeps looking for excuses. it's a pity for ndi-imo

It's ironical that this same Rochas who offered scholarships at all levels of education will come out to complain about lack of funds to run the state. Meanwhile, he has been wasting public funds on buildings that he will never complete in the name of building university at Obiohia junction, building hotels close to the river in Ogboko where he hails from, building hospitals without equipping the existing ones. Most people who served in his government as PAs & SAs are building hotels and exquisite duplexes yet he has the guts to come out to complain. Indeed, a big shame.

EFCC should probe his activities as a governor.
Only a select few built houses and hotels. Most appointees didn't get anything off the scammer. In his first tenure he was chanting rescue mission while he was rescuing his pockets and his families. He was paying his appointees pea nuts compare to theit counterparts in every other states. The man deserves to hang for corruption.

Oh my heart goes out to imo people. We warned them. The entire igbo group warned them and they allowed those people that never care for Igbo to decieve them. You see it. Even Ebonyi is moving forward, the only state in igboland that is comatose is that APC runned IMO state. Una see it. You're broke and overly in debt. That okorohausa have put not this generation of IMO state but the generations coming after him in huge debt they have to pay. Oya see am. See am.

APC STAY THE HELL AWAY FROM DELTA STATE. Don't ever come near my state at all. I rather a known corrupt PDP rule us to infinity than a severe corrupt APC pretending to be saints touch my own state. In fact, if PDP do not want to rule anymore or get tired, I rather APGA rule, shit I'll even take any north party but definitely not those APC devils. Stay away!!!

Was this man asleep some weeks ago when he was touring the globe? Did he just realise that the state is poor? On whose account was he touring some weeks ago? This man shouldn't have been a leader in the first place. He lacks every quality of a leader. My brothers in that state will have to bear his ineptitude for the next 3yrs

I will keep on saying it, Okorocha the governor of Imo state is a criminal! He just bought a big 2 storey building in wetheral road b4 cherubim junction very close to d trade fair ground and gave all d tenants their 7 days quit noticed. He has tipped sands and chippings 4 work to start. The 600 million spent 4 xmas decoration is not a waste? He also bought a mansion in dubai in his recent visit to dubai. #fact

it's not we...blame the govt. Do you what it cost to set up a factory in Nigeria? Even the big multinationals are lamenting about their cost of operation. Say u want to set up a company xyz, u approached the banks and they are unwilling to lend u some loan and if they do it comes at a very exorbitant rate. Say u manage to get pass that and u start operation, epileptic power supply nko? cost of operation is hiked by powering ur machines thru alternative power source. so many limitation and what have the government done all these years to increase productivity? nothing...instead they steal from our reserve. They rub us to enrich themselves. Now they want us to be paying 50 naira per 1000naira transaction as CoT. How many sacrifice have they make? How many have the legislatures make? They are still ranked one of the highest paid anywhere in the world. It is only here in Nigeria we get pushed to the wall and we still keep our cool. Our forefathers gave them a future filled with hope after the independence; a future where a $ goes for less than a #. they took it, sucked it dry and gave us this. So hard to get a job in a country u call yours. If not for Nairaland and a good samaritan (God bless her real good) I would still be in the street of ph with a 2,500 naira shoes combing everywhere begging for work in a country I called mine oh..Am off the labour market but what about millions out there struggling. May God save us!

One thing good about Buhari era is Nigerians coming to terms with reality. Most States after the minimum wage saga were forced into carrying unrealistic wage bill and opposition States were more affected as they needed welfarism to withstand overbearing FG and stubborn Labour Unions.

Okorocha has been trying to concession parastatals so that they fend for themselves in order to reduce financial burden on Government but people are fighting him that he should run the State with allocation alone. What he simply said is the case with all the States that adopted the 18k minimum wage at the peak of oil boom. Now that oil has fallen below 35 Dollars 90% of States earn less than their wage bill.

The entire States have same problem but Okorocha is singled out.

Didn't get to see any of the last Nigerian presidential debates and while in Nigeria then, I subscribed to the philosophy of the then NCP under the late Chief Gani Leadership.

That party lost focus immediately Gani passed away, some of its past members are now political prostitutes.

erunz:
IMO State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, yesterday disclosed that the state is insolvent, as its monthly wage bill has outstripped its monthly statutory allocation from the Federal Government. The governor said monthly servicing of the bailout fund has further compounded the situation.

This was just as he reiterated that there was no going back on the state government’s decision to concession the management of parastatals.

Okorocha, who revealed this when he spoke to newsmen at the Government House in Owerri said the monthly wage of the state had always been higher than what the state receives from federal allocations and internally generated revenue.

“The monthly wage bill of the state is N4.2 billion which is far higher than what we receive from federal allocation including the internally generated revenue which means that the state government has always been operating on a deficit. As at December 31, 2015 the state received N1.9 billion from the Federal Government while the monthly wage bill of the state for the same period was N4.2 billion.”

“We cannot continue to patch a cracked wall as if all is well, we need to break it down in order to rebuild it, and the current wage bill of the state is beyond our capacity. Imo State now receives the least allocation among the South-East states because of the monthly repayment of the bailout fund which the state took from the Federal Government, a situation which has further compounded the financial situation of the state.” The governor insisted that in spite of the financial dilemma of the state, no worker is being owed any salary.
