Why divide into two horizontally? Okay what if I say we divide it vertically? Nigeria with be in the West of Africa. What happened to cardinal points in map interpretation? In every maps, if you must decide, divide into 4 because dividing into two would be biased neglecting different results that can arise from either vertical or horizontal division.

There is nothing irrelevant there.
Can you say Benue state is in Southern Nigeria because it's south of River Benue, or can you say Cross River state is in the South East, and your head won't go for it?
Why not also say that Ethiopia and Central African Republic are in North Africa, since they are north of the Equator?
You don't attempt to distort the geopolitical structure of a region and say it's no big deal.
Google is free to access, so CNN should always verify their news before giving them out. They have a reputation to protect.

Ah ah. Just to justify the mistake of CNN abi. I grow up in the early sixties to know Nigeria to be a West African country. Africa has always been divided geographically into North, South, East, West and Central Africa.
