That's cruel man. Why raise someone's hopes only to dash them in the end. Not good at all. If an individual is informed that he aced the ac and is let off the hook for reasons which I'm certain nlng will not reveal to him how on earth will that boost his morale?

That's not cruel. That's why they didn't use the word 'successful'. Recruitment is still in process, anything can happen.

Why do graduates of public uni believe they are academically superior to private uni grads?

Why is the rate of "Michael Jackson effect" amongst ladies very high these days?

Perhaps cos Public Universities have 200 times the population of Privates', another issue could be the number of consultancy services; professors, courses, failures, passes, attendee certificates, dilapidated structures, faculties n departments, over streched laboratories, outdated cataloguing, unionism, landmass etc. in public unis are way wider than any known private.

All these aside, I quite agree Public Unis are academically superior to thier 'secondary school' setting private universities, (no offence to those who attended private unions)

Does quantity dictate quality? Nigeria probably has 10times the population of Japan yet Japan is "superior" to Nigeria. Heck China has a population 100 times more than Japan and only in the last 30years have they managed to catch up.

Most public uni grads have the misconception that cos they've studied in tough conditions they are superior believing that in" softer" conditions they will do better. But is this really true?

It is to me. Which criteria will they now use to screen out somebody that has aced all the written test, ac, even the background tests that wouldn't be downright prejudiced and outrightly wicked!

Guy, you are one of the persons, if not the only person on this thread whose info I take seriously. This is because all the infos you give here are quasi-perfect. As such, if you tell us that what you just wrote is from your source, I would believe you. But if it's based on what you think, I really beg to differ. However, if it's really true that this info is authentic, it just does not make sense one bit. A better way to have written the mail is ' with reference to your participation at the AC, we wish to inform you that you met the required cut-off. However, this does not automatically qualify you for the next stage of the campaign, as there are other factors which we are still deliberating on.........' something of this sort. For them to just keep us in the dark for God knows how long it's going to be, and then send regret mails again would just horn their degree of incompetence. We deserve to know where we are on the continuum. Just as they sent regret mails to those whom 'did not make the AC cut-off', I think those that got the 'ongoing mail' also deserve to know if they may not be considered later on. Judging from their previous recruitments, I do not think that those they usually call for medicals are the only ones that passed the AC or interview as the case may be (as evident in the 2007 thread). If they have more than what they wanted they can use the method they have been using or any other one they want to use to trim the number to the one they need. I repeat: It just would not make sense and would belie their 'caring' core value if they send regret mails again. It's against this backdrop that I strongly feel that they sent that mail just because they are unsure of the future and do not want to show any commitment. However it is, # I still believe in Jah's undeserved kindness.
artmedia:
Not to sound like a spoilsport though, but definitely those of us that got the 'in due course' email are just those that passed the AC cut-off. Forget all the talk about them not wanting to make a commitment. The people that passed this AC are more than the amount that they had initially wanted to pick (about 120 before they then wanted to reduce the no), and yes some of us sadly will still be let go. If it's any consolation, at least we know we were successful at the AC. Some sorta morale booster that is.

Anyway, let's just keep our minds open. Good thing is that we knw our odds have largely increased and our chances of joining @Forkadict are better, bad thing is that we dont know how long this carefully-crafted 'in due course' will be. All is well IJN. Amen.

Well, that's how life is I guess. If a company wants to recruit 2 people and out of 15 interviewed, 10 ace the process. Will u call dropping 8 people out of the 10 wicked? They have a certain no they want, more than that no passed the preset cutoff, then they have to have their ways and criteria to make their final selection.

Outrightly, Quality outwieghts Quantity in any respect, except when it comes to food for a hungry man!

Yes Private schools in general are expected to have better and equipped facilities in place, especially in Nigeria as a case study, but on the other hand, the state of the art facilities you find in some public universities, the qualified consultants and professors, the quantum of all important books, documents, journals, needs assessments you find lying down in libraries of these public universities, the commitment of some very serious students and some factors would keep one thinking if public school are not better than private. But for our non-PPM strategy, these factors do not necessarily result into any KPIs in the end.

So I rest my case.

I sincerely appreciate your vote of confidence. Thanks. And yes, it's from my 'sauce'. She made it clear that some of us that received the ongoing emails will still be dropped. Lets not forget that they are making decisions as to how many they will employ considering the market and other factors. So they were left with 3 options. One was to just keep mute till whenever they eventually agree on the final no. Second was to send a blanket mail to everyone that the process is still ongoing and they apologise for any inconvenience. And third was to do what they did - get in touch with those they are not considering at all, and let the rest know it is ongoing. The first 2 options leave everyone in limbo, whilst the last one lets some people get the closure we were all clamoring for. Hence they went with that option.

Again, if there wernt any issues with oil prices and all, and they had a firm number they wanted to take, the process would have been concluded a long time ago and we would have resumed. But this case is peculiar, and they did what they had to do.

We also have to know that they never in the past mentioned that once we get the next mail after the AC exercise, then we are automatically in. Hence, even if they want to send series of emails, as long as they have not said that 'proceed to medicals', and pick offer letter, then we cant question their degree of competence or their 'caring' ethos.

It is well IJN.

Yes, keep an open mind. That's the spirit. However, I am sure those that got the 'ongoing mail' are the successful ones. Afterall, what prevents them from saying that one is unsuccessful when he really is. Those guys are at a cross road. Yes, those that got mail are qualified to work with us, but how many of them do we absorb, considering the situation of things? Ok, why don't we wait till so and so time till things will improve? Alright, until then, let's inform them that the process is ongoing without any form of commiitment. That is the situation I think. Remember, the mail says: 'with reference to your participation in AC'.

@ItsTime4me....I should say, your view is spot on, and it is a valid point. Infact, it will be best practice that no excuse for any further delay should be allowed to precipitate once the Company is able to overcome this perilous time looking at the global oil and gas industry market dynamics.

Congratz to those that made it this far, and for those on the other side of the balance, heartily wish you all the best too in your other pursuits.

Spot on!

Infact, it is even specified in most invites for medicals that the invite should not be mistaken to be an offer of employment.
We were the ones clamoring for some form of communication from NLNG. They have finally done that. So all we can do is wait.

The wait has just started...

Well, I do not agree with the 'more population, more quality' logic though. But in the general sense of it, it's quite a major factor in the Nigeria case.

A situation where you have a 750 sitting capacity lecture theatre for 2,000 students to attend lectures is not so rosy. the people with sitting spaces in front are the people who slept overnight in that hall or have arrived as early as 5a.m. Anything short of 6a.m, you'll have to stand like an aide-de-camp for 5-6hrs, where the best alternative to a desk to place your notes to write is your left palm, for a righty and the right one for a lefty. All you can write/copy is the note of the person who copied from the person who copied from the person.. (-and so the chain goes on and on-) who sat in the front. Other 'competitive' makeshift spots to occupy are the floor of the podium, the upper and lower window spaces (the burglary is your best bet for balance, you gotta hold on to it with your life if don't wanna fall), or you just find a sweet best friend who gets space in front to lap you or rather you lap her during lecture period. Your priority is not to see the lecturer's face or his writings on the board, it is at least, to hear what he's saying to correlate with what you're 'dubbing' so as not to dub nonsense. No PAS, No Projector. How students managed to ace some tough courses under these conditions still baffle me though.

Relatively, a student with performing averagely with Bs or Cs under these conditions might do better with an A under suitable conditions; less than 40people in a class, all sitted, good ventilation, visual aids, no struggle for spaces in the library, etc.... Book go enter your head na. cheesy

Some of us are just being emotional. Until you get the appointment letter anything is possible in any recruitment. In my opinion, that is the only binding agreement that is admissible in court. I believe some of us will be MD's and GM's in the future, and when that time comes we will understand why some decisions have to be made no matter how painful it may be. In the end it better to be optimistic than be a pessimist.

The emphasis in most Nigerian Schools (public and private) seems to be verbatim copying of whatever the instructor dictates in class which IMHO is wrong. I had several running battles with different lecturers in school because I failed to regurgitate what was given in class. I had a Mathematics Professor that insisted that I write word for word what he had integrated! The emphasis for me is learning. The school is only shows you the road, the real process of learning can only occur IF you walk down that road by yourself. In my first year in school I had a conversation with final year students and was stunned to hear computer science students saying "I don't like programming". In my head I was like is't that like a doc saying "I dont like blood"? I learnt programming in secondary school when I was barred from entering the computer lap cos i didn't know how to use a computer. That day I went to the Library and (God forgive me) stole a computer book in the hopes that it will teach me how to use the computer. Turned out that it was a book about programming a text-based gaming. I got hooked.

Bottom line is whether public or private WHEN YOU ARE GOOD YOU ARE GOOD. A lizard cannot leave Nigeria and become an alligator in the UK

Airsay, I feel you. You're referring to the giant within. Not all giants can manifest irrespective of conditions. Some need enabling environments and the eventual capacity will shock onlookers once they manifest.

Regarding the argument of public or private schools being better, it's not a given that either is better. They empower you with different skills, relevant to survival. Just appreciate whichever system you passed through, and be grateful you're one of the success stories from such systems.
