Ikoyi School Demands Dollars For School Fees, Despite CBN Ban ( Article not written by me ),sent by a Trezzy Blog reader @Queeneth.Read what she sent below.....



The rich they say, also cry, has been reflected with parents of pupils in the Lagos Preparatory school in Glover Road , Ikoyi , popularly known as LPS, where United States dollars or its equivalent in the black market has been demanded from parents for school fees for the last three terms, despite the ban by CBN that no school operating within the ambit of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, should charge any tuition fees in foreign currency, especially as 90% of their operating cost are in the local currency.

A few parents who spoke in anonymity , found this demand from the school outrageous considering that hard times had fallen on most parents in Nigeria. They were of the opinion that school fees by virtue of the Forex crisis had almost doubled , compared to what was obtainable from early last year. Parents are now expected to pay One million Naira a term considering the current exchange rate of 318.


Some angry parent have also voiced out the illegality of this operations and some are in the process of bringing litigations against the school, while others have withdrawn their kids in protest. A concerned parent found this to be an act of economic sabotage especially with the new “Change Mantra” by the buhari’s administration , as certain institutions must understand that it cannot be business as usual, must conform with the laws of the country , that dollars must not collected for any local transaction.


On Investigation, we found out that 90% of the workforce of LPS were paid in Naira and as such there could be no tenable reason for this demand, which is rather unpatriotic, as no school in the UK or the United States would accept the Nigerian Naira from a Nigerian student.

Other Top schools like CSI Lekki (Children’s International School) and St Saviors Ikoyi took a cue after complaints from parents and identified with their plights last year and fixed their school fees in Naira, which parents found laudable.

These are the kind of people putting unnecessary pressure on the Naira and blaming PMB for not devaluing the Naira.
Genuine importers cant get dollars but some elite schools in Lagos that pays their teachers and staff in Naira demands school fees in dollars.

The foreign owners of these schools and companies quickly transfer the dollar school fees abroad and still claim in their media that Nigeria is one of the most difficult countries to do business Nonsense!

I feel like hitting my head on the wall. I dey vex like this lady here if CBN doesnt do something fast

Nice to know that current realities has opened our eyes that neither CBN nor FG is to blame for the fallen fortunes of our local currency but you and I.

The least this school should get is a closure and the owners prosecuted.

Take your kid to another school if you are not satisfied with their terms

The children don't even have two heads, this is the real vanity upon vanity wow in this same country where some people as heads of family still earn 50k there's is God oh.

After basterdization of WAEC and NECO.....THANK GOD SAT,ALEVELS exams is not headed by Nigerians

They don't want the former equivalent of that money so they want the parents to pay it in dollars so they can benefit from the fall in Naira

And I guess its for a term or year.

That amount paid my 5 siblings sch fess with accommodation
