Weting concern me, I'm nt a fan of both nollywood and ghollywood. Nollywood is even better, as for gollywood,it's like watching porn, some of the movies sef will nt av head or tail, just sex scenes, tht was why I parked them aside, although they still make sense making movies too sometimes.

Both mostly partner together, so sometimes u might nt really be able to differentiate them cos they might feature Nigerian actors as well as Ghanians

Those Ghanaians sef you can't compare Nollywood with Ghollywood or whatever they call it
The irony is that there's nothing as ghollywood ,it doesn't exist.

Ghana has no movie industry. Nollywood extends and covers all of Ghana.

Personally, I don't see much wrong in what the lady said. It might hurt people in Nollywood, but that doesn't negate the facts.

FACT: Nollywood comes with more negative connotation than positive.
FACT: Her Hitler analogy is just that.. an analogy. It doesn't equate Nollywood with Hitler, it only draws a parralel on the effect of 'tainted' names.

This kind of "soup no sweet, but im mama like am" mentality is why production value/quality has not improved in Nollywood for decades. Nollywood now has full access to the same equipment used in making many Hollywood blockbusters, but look what they produce with it.

Compare Nollywood visual production to the Nigerian music video production and you'd realize Nollywood filmmakers have been left in the past by the newer music video industry in the SAME country.

The first and most important step in fixing a problem is fully admitting and owning that problem. Until then, denial and mediocrity will reign.
keep quiet; had you heard of feasibility study? Do you know that 85% of #Nollywood target are the average Nigerian rural inhabitant and semi literates? If nollywood is at par with Hollywood do you think my uncle and grandma In the village will still patronise them.. There are lot of classic movies being shown everyday in Africamagic urban.. Maybe you can go check....

Do you fully understand the term "production value"?

I doubt you do. Proper filmmaking has NOTHING to do with the target audience. A well made film is a well made film whether your target is an uneducated villager or a stockbroker on Wall street.

Nollywood does not need to emulate Hollywood content. What it needs is to produce films professionally.
This runs the gamut from proper writing, casting, pre-production, production and post-production.

One major misconception people have is that great looking films need massive budgets. They don't.

Only mediocre people condone mediocrity. If you as the consumer refuses to hold them to higher standards, what incentive do they have to improve?
Don't be part of the problem. Be part of the solution.

Sir/Ma, we have blockbusters in Hollywood, then we have those that do not even make it to the Cinema...they are all Hollywood. Same thing goes for Nollywood. We see all that there is in Nollywod because we are here in Nigeria and you see the blockbusters in Hollywood because that is the one you will be interested in watching.

Now I thought Nollywood was same as it was when we were kids until I saw a nollywood movie in a cinema for the first time (October 1) and I was impressed. The thing is we've improved and it's something we should appreciate. Maybe we aren't there yet but progress is being made and that's what Stella's trying to point out.

That's like asking why a teenager today knows how to operate a smartphone or computer better than his parents.

Hollywood had to start from the very rudiments of filmmaking. Nollywood did NOT. The entire blueprint and methodolgy has been laid out for them.
It's only an implementation problem.

Nollywood movies are terrible - agreed.
Nollywood movies should be criticized - fvcking agree and fvck patriotism!
But someone from Ghollywood also joining in criticizing Nollywood movies? It's like pot calling kettle black.
Ghollywood is beyond terrible. Ghollywood has redefined terrible. Ghollywood has taken terrible into a whole new level. Jeez!

Every once in a while I look online to see what progress Nollywood has made, and as much as I wish them well, it is hard to say there's been notable improvement.

I saw the trailer to October 1st, and that is the point I'm making. At this time, I feel all major Nollywood production should at least be somewhat similar to that. However, the majority of films featuring Nollywood's A-list actors are still no better produced than they were in 1999.

I haven't seen October 1st, other than the trailer and some behind the scenes, but if even 50% of Nollywood major productions were made at those standards, then that would be major progress.

Just like the Nigeria project, there is just no progress in Nollywood, 1 good movie and 200 bad movies. 1 step forward, 100 steps backward. We are still stuck in the medieval era, thinking like cavemen. All we do is attack, attack and less thinking.
This lady just said the truth, sure we not used to hearing the truth.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think it was a character in Chimamanda's novel that made that statement and not chimamanda.

I've been wondering though. Is there a distinction between what a person says and what a character in the person's book says?

What do you think?
