A father Christmas approach isn't the best. Osun state towed a similar path and is struggling to keep it up. Why waste N500B on a scheme where 80%(N400B) of that money will end up in stomach or foreign land.
If, for example, that money is injected in construction of houses alone,
(1) it can bring a long lasting solution to a problem - housing,
(2) it will employ Nigerians and ultimately pass some N400B ( 80% ) to them as earnings,
(3) it will help check initial capital flight situation whereby the money paid directly to people will come to them as easy money and almost certainly be spent on foreign goods whereas workers earning it will most likely use it for locally produced goods like food and shelter. The Buhari team should avoid the temptation to appeal enmass to some section of the population and aim for project that is mutually appealing to the masses and our economic predicament.
