It might initially seem meaningless and a token but the N60B total will be spent and will boost (even if only marginally)the local economies across the country. However what we do not want to start in this country is a culture of dependence on state welfare. Then again if the rich are helping themselves to state resources why not some of the poor getting something too? |

A nation that is yet to provide constant electricity, clean water and good roads have no business engaging in a welfare scheme we must learn to walk before we fly! 500 naira each will not drag anyone out of poverty. this welfare scheme is a waste of resources and a drain. expecially considering this government is looking to borrow to fund some parts of its budgets. If anybody here will take a 10 million naira bank loan to fund a non-refundable project at the church or mosque when you don't even have a house of your own? then this policy is for you. If you do not see the economic sense in doing this then you can not support this welfare scheme |

onatisi:have u heard about social security before? The United states, world number one capitalist economy provide social security for a significant percentage of his people...not just the poor but the lazy ones too. Do we have the money? Well if over 500 billion was expended on campaign during the last election...i think we can expend same on poor people. Is it sustainable? When a government have its hands full with social responsibility there will be less to steal and such government will become proactive in its approch to revenue creation |

Nalikedis:Yes America can do that because the population is well documented, the citizens database is up to date and everyone has a number. That system took them years to master and perfect,Nigeria hasn't got such even more than three quarters of the population don't have national identity cards,so how do u manage the disbursemnet of money in such a system?before you know it ,the system will be hijacked by apc members which is ok anyway according to African stamdards |

breakeven:let us wait and see what can be done with creativity and BVN. Because if we wait till when we have social security number... We might have to wait forever. As per ending up in the pocket of the thieves...uhn.. GOD will surely Judge us all. There are over 50 million poor nigerians, but i think there are far less very very poor. If policies like this are well guided together with the school feeding. It will infuse more money into the economy and less money to be taken out by officials. Have u considered that the real money in our economy has been workers salaries...rest are shipped out to foreign contractors. |

This is incredible if implemented. It shows the commitment of the Buhari government to the the socioeconomic conditions of Nigerians. This is why elections matter. sometimes because we have been so battered we accept the status cuo.we say its all a game.we lose hope. we learn to believe that our lives can't be better whereas all that's required is to get the right leadership.Any government that keeps the promise made to the people will be well rewarded by the citizenry. |
