The Senate on Tuesday adjourned plenary till April 7 as part of measures to prevent further spread of COVID-19 in Nigeria.

The lawmakers took the decision after a closed-door session that lasted one hour.

President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, urged the Federal Government to assist the states with funds to combat the menace.

He also stressed the need to set up a special fund to assist victims of COVID-19.

The senators also observed a minute silence for the late Senator Rose Oko.

The House of Representatives, will, after a brief sitting today, adjourn plenary indefinitely as coronavirus spreads in Nigeria hitting 40 cases already.

The Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila, made this known in his opening remarks at the plenary on Tuesday.

Gbajabiamila said the lawmakers would only work on an economic stimulus bill to protect Nigerians and the economy against the impact of COVID-19, after which the House would shut down.

The House had on March 3, 2020, resolved that the National Assembly should suspend plenary for two weeks for fear of coronavirus, asking the management to install screening and sanitation devices at the National Assembly Complex, Abuja.

The Minority Leader, Ndudi Elumelu, had raised a point of order on legislative privilege, saying, “I think that this House should suspend plenary for a period of two weeks, for the management to sanitise everybody and allow it to put measures in place so that all of us can be tested.

“It may sound like a joking matter but it is a very serious matter. And I think this House should take this as a very serious matter, otherwise, you would not know who to shake (hands with).”

Buhari led APC government would never rule this country again .

Very useless political party .

Buhari is responsible for the outbreak of corona virus in Nigeria for refusing to shut down land borders and international wing of the airports on time .

Never again will APC rule this country .

The party's 5 years misrule has led to death of many Nigerians..
As if that's not enough, Buhari allowed coronaVirus to enter the country .

Buhari is a useless leader

The judgement day seems to be at hand. They thought coronavirus would only affect the vulnerable Nigerians, there were calls made several time to close the border or quarantine the arriving passengers but no.....they refused because they thought it would never get to them. Now, here we are.

When victims of this coronavirus start from high profile politicians, Nigerians would stay indoors, no need for radio awareness.

Nigeria is grounded !!!!! The state house is currently in total disarray with the positive testing of powerful chief of staff and defacto president called Abba Kyari which has thrown Nigeria into a needless power vacuum as there is no president no vice president because Buhari had since subtly deactivated the office of VP ..the framers of our constitution created the office of the VP for a time such as this when the president might be out of circulation but unfortunately Buhari nullified it
