As at today Nigeria cannot afford to educates her population. The reason why we produce unemployable graduate is because we invest nothing to the training. A well trained graduates will not look for work. he will create one on made himself so saleable that work will be looking for him.

I Know a student studying M.Sc in Animal science that requires 100 cows for his work. An order was placed for this animals for the research work by the University through grant provided by his supervisor. This kind of student will never look for work. All we want in Nigeria is degree without the honors.

The current data base like Science direct and Wiley online that provides information on trends are not available in Nigerian Universities. The blind Nigerian teachers are leading the youth to analogue world. You cannot give what you do not have. We have a generation of teachers that were taught using analogue system teaching the digital world.

It is either we invest in education or made student pay for quality education. As at now the Universities are busy producing kindergarten trades men as Engineers. Not because the students are not willing to learn but because the teachers do not know the trends. It is common to see some universities teaching outdated protocols.

You are wrong bro. All federal unis received half their salary from fed. govt. Your uni is sincere otherwise they would have refused to pay waiting for when the full complement will come. Dont abuse your VC, an honest man who is finding an honest solution to a difficult situation.

I can vow that you didn't sponsor yourself through the Uni...How many parents in Nigeria earn up to 600k-1.2mil per annum??
Do you realize a lot of students in federal schools sponsor themselves?
I remember how I struggled to earn my 1st degree...
If you say they should increase fees because Times are hard, you are simply saying youths should device means of providing these funds through armed robbery or prostitution...
Why don't u consider options like cutting down on unnecessary allowances and expenditure of politicians since they understand the economy better instead of an option that will increase crime rate and illiteracy....

I am going to answer the points you raised this way

1.Yes....I didn't sponsor myself through university (I did apply for and get a scholarship from the government at one stage though! )

2.Not going to university does not mean you are an illiterate. The fact is...being a technical school graduate provides you with a higher chance of getting a job than being a university graduate.(I have known technical school grads who were just as knowledgeable as university grads....even more so.).And let's be honest....developed countries like Germany are countries that have an abundance of properly trained technicians....who keep the economy rolling forward.

3.Many foreign universities in Europe are cheap. But...in return for those low fees....Europeans pay hefty taxes.In Nigeria....we do not even pay high taxes. For instance...in the UK....you pay council tax as high as N50000 monthly.You want to start paying that in Nigeria.

The painful thing is that university education costs too much. You have to buy good facilities, you have to keep those facilities upgraded,and you have to buy and buy all sorts of things.And let's face it....government cannot fund the 50 unis that it has.

So...at the end of the day...we have poorly trained graduates....who cannot compete in the job market with rich kids who went out for their degrees.

I hate my original post. If I had a say....I would make unviersity education cheap. But...I know that that is not possible. If we want to be competitive....we have to have well funded universities....not the half funded contraptions we have.

4.We should catch all the corrupt politicians...and make them slash spending. But....it won't be enough....and the fact is...the universities arenot the only needy child government has.

5.If you want cheap educaiton.....let's face it....we have to stop relying on selling oil and sharing themoney. We must industrialize...so that we can have the massive tax base to build up our universities and everything else.No buts.And even if we succeed in getting the money....na only on university we go spend am? Roads,light,rail,etc dey.

6.Challenge:How much do you think a university's budget should be?

Because i can not understnd why hard working Nigerians who have worked for a whole month will have to be given half salary for that month and considering the economic situation in the country now, how do they expect people to survive?
If this half salary is paid then some people will actually have nothing to collect because they already have bank loan to settle, infact some will not be able to fully service their bank loan and of course banks will be happy since a delay will attract more interest
What of those that have miriads of family issues to attend to; this is a period for school fee of children to be paid, etc
Infact I think EFCC should investigate this particular University o

I tot buharis TSA has been collecting trillions. Now no money to pay salaries abi. Many centres are going on strike already

The unions are just being formed! This University, i.e., FULAFIA is about the least paid University among the nine "New" Universities established by Ex-President Jonathan. Most of the allowances paid in other universities are not paid in FULAFIA, and now the little that is being paid is to be slashed in half!

Are you sure it's one of the least paid? Learnt you guys have been receiving hazard allowances but was stopped recently. How much do contiss 7/2 receives there. In FUBK, everyone is lamenting here

Hazard allowance was paid to Lab Technologists and all other people except for the lecturers, at the end of the day office mesengers collects better than a GA The hazard was stopped in December without requiring anybody to sign any incriminating document and a memo appologising and giving reason was latter sent to the appropriate people such as the Lab Technologists. Responsibility allowance was also not paid in December!
