This woman is not based in Benin Republic, if she were, she wouldn't have been able to get a nomination let alone win a Grammy. Andelique music is African oriented but not prepared in Africa. She solely based in the United States . This is a woman that had a doctorate degree in music from Yale University. How many of our Nigerian based musicians have achieved that? So don't get jealous by saying, "what's she singing?" https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Angélique_Kidjo They may call her a Beninese but most of her lyrics are of Yoruba origin. This tells us we got whatever it takes here, only if we're committed and accommodating. Congratulations to her |

gcode123:Unfortunately for you, she's Yoruba. If you listened to songs well, you'll know this. she's not Nigerian though. I rocked this woman's "We are one" music so well. Very nice. |

safarigirl:I don't think you've heard "Ebolo" and "We are one", most especially "We are one". Listen to that song and you'll know why she is rated far ahead of all other african artistes. There is something that real music critics look out for in a song and that is what most african artistes lack. |

LordOdin:Be blunt and say you consider soul, rhythm and blues, classical and country music. Nigerian music is vast starting from our native juju, afro beat, high life to the fusion of borrowed music. Our musicians are doing a great job and the politicking is evident. Appreciate what you have, promote it and watch it takeover! |

safarigirl:Most of the so called Nigerian musicians are mostly copy-cats. Virtually no originality in what they release as songs. Except maybe Asa and a few others. And I believe Asa will win something very big (globally) in the nearest future. |

Don't give two rat azz about the Grammys, it's all politics - who know who thing. The fact that 2Face wasnt deemed well deserved to win one after the smash hit African Queen 'anthem' is well beyond me ![]() |

safarigirl:You spoke well save for the last paragraph. You should have just said you only like or that you are familiar with "wombolombo" have you listened to her version of "we are only one" (soundtrack to the lion king)? Naima, Angolo Babalawo, Malaika etc? have you ever listened to any of her albums on your headphones all alone then you feel the energy and the spirit if the music move you that people around you be wondering what's wrong with you? She plays music that is ALIVE even if I don't understand what she says except when she adds or sings in English or Yoruba. She has performed with more foreign acts our musicians dream about (don't get me wrong, we have really talented acts here too o) Angelique Kidjo is an enigma. I don't joke with her, YVONNE CHAKA CHAKA and our own CHRISTIE ESSIEN IGBOKWE. |

I don't know her and I represent over 1 billion Africans. So where did the Grammy get its back to back award? Guess. I mean where's ASA, where's COBHAMS ASUQUO and where are people like KSA & previously FELA Anikulapo Kuti while he was alive? Only posthumously when the Grammy was thoroughly defeated? Kora started on the same path until it had no choice..... Well all that not withstanding....RESPECT for a hardworking African lady in the francophone. |

safarigirl:shut up.. The fact that her music of not played in Nigeria doesn't mean she is not popular....bill Clinton is a fan of her music. He even called her,"the woven with thunderous voice '..alicia keys featured in one of her songs... More recognized than all Nigerian artiste combined. Her songs are purely African with African accent; not the Americanized rubbish we hear in Nigeria Have u asked yourself y femi kuti remains the only Nigerian to get Grammy nominee She is the greatest living African artiste. |

Sometimes,Someday,A Nigerian Arstiste will win it....if Nigerian stars like Sade Adu, Dr Alban, Femi Kuti etc can be nominated for grammy award in the past, it shows that we are gradually getting close....Just a matter of time, |
