It is unfortunate that you think the Yorubas can't survive without the Niger Delta oil. Unfortunately, the Niger Delta oil don't even belong to you too. You wanna steal it by trying to to pretend that the people of the Niger Delta belongs to your tribe when they don't and never will. The arable lands and the sea ports plus other rich mineral resources the Yorubas have will always make them survive. Without the oil in the 60s,Awolowo introduced free education while Zik couldn't. They all wait for Awolowo to start something so they can copy it. There are wonderful Igbo friends that I have made over years. For their sake, I will refrain from saying some things. The truth will always come out. You guys started Nigeria's problem with that first coup
...and yet at the mere mention of Biaf...you lots would whine, weep and wail as if your whole essence in life is being taken away from you.

Find some other c0ck and bull story to tell...

Meanwhile, remember the paper by Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, the current Emir of Kano, a Fulani, where he revealed some truths about your people: "YORUBAS ARE THE PROBLEM WITH NIGERIA"?
http://www.nigerianbulletin.com/threads/yorubas-are-the-problem-with-nigeria-by-sanusi-lamido-sanusi-elombah-com.111348/

In sum, the Yoruba political leadership, as mentioned by Balarabe Musa, has shown itself over the years to be incapable of rising above narrow tribal interests and reciprocating goodwill from other sections of the country by treating other groups with respect. Practically every crisis in Nigeria since independence has its roots in this attitude.

The Yoruba elite were the first, in 1962, to attempt a violent overthrow of an elected government in this country. In 1966, it was the violence in the West which provided an avenue for the putsch of 15th January. After Chief Awolowo lost to Shagari in 1983 elections, it was the discontent and bad publicity in the South-West which led to the Buhari intervention...

Not a single Igbo blood was shed? Col Unegbe killed by Wale Ademoyega and Ifeajuna was from Congo? I'm expecting you to come with the usual 'Unegbe's blood is lesser than Bello's" yorubas and damned lies!
You know history right? Can you kindly name all the January 1966 coup plotters? Igbos and murders!
If your people haven't killed all those people, Nigeria won't have experienced dt unfortunate civil war and Nigeria would have been much better today. Your cry of being marginalized everyday while your people are in all tiers of government. You have senators, federal judges, members of house of reps, governors and even presidential candidates that you don't support. You are your problems.

But, no Politicians of Igbo blood lost his life right?
There was jubilation after the death of Tafawa Balewa and Ahmadu Bello right?
Yoruba's lost about 2key political actors, Hausa lost 2 key Political actors, Midwest Lost 1 key political actor, tell me the key political actor SE lost?
Unless we are gonna be very mischievous with history are we gonna say after the first coup, the whole landscape didn't favor Igbo's in Nigeria. It was just too obvious then. My dad told me how Igbo's made mouth of them being the "head" in those days and how they veered sumptuously. They bragged and ridiculed Hausa's then.
But, I dare not say all their folly warranted the pogrom and the subsequent loss of the Civil War. Nay, it ain't warrant it a bit! Even though Kaduna Nzeogwu was probably in favor of eliminating other political gladiators for Awolowo( that's what many believed), yet the fact that no political gladiator of SE extraction was killed in the coup and the mere cruelty of Igbo's jubilating and denigrating the death of Ahmadu Bello is something shameful which we must all condemn. Even when your enemy is down, do not celebrate so that GOD will not cease HIS anger on him.
The folly notwithstanding, I totally condemn the cruelty of the Hausa/Fulani's in the pogrom and all the needless debacle that follows it.
#LetsSpeakTheTruthAboutTheCivilWar.
why do you think the coup was termed 'unsuccessly'?it was unsuccessful because it was quenched by aguiyi ironsi who was also targetted at,if not for his intervention lots of casualties would have been recorded from the coup.it was the yoruba general involved in the coup that said so.

FYI,an igbo soldier trying to defend tafawa. balewa was killed.

https://www.nairaland.com/1073512/names-1966-coup-plotters.judge-self

For those of us who have been
falsely claiming that the 1966
first military coup was led by
Igbos to exterminate non Igbo
leaders in order take over the
country and branded it as an "Igbo coup" should go back to
history and facts to help
themselves out. This was the
reason they claimed the whole
country rallied against Igbos to
wipe them out in a genocide. This is a malicious and cheap
propaganda contrived to make
their claims stick. But the more
you try to bury facts and truth,
themore the inconsistences of
your hypocrisy and lies continues to surface. You
cannever murder history. It's
not possible!
The truth is that, those who led
the military putsh were
motivated by the injustices, prejudice, nepotism and the
lopesided nature of federal and
military appointments the
behemoths in power then were
doing to subjugate and
dominate others by force, arrogantly promote one section
over another. It was never an
Igbo affair as is being peddled
to find relevance. Now take a look at the list of
the '66 coup plotters and render
your own judgement;

1. Major Chukwuma Kaduna
Nzeogwu(Delta Igbo)
2. Major Adewale Ademoyega
(Yoruba) author of "Why we
struck"
3. Capt. G. Adeleke(Yoruba)
4. Maj. Ifeajuna(Igbo)
5. Lt. Fola Oyewole(Yoruba)
author of "The reluctant rebel"
6. Lt. R. Egbiko(Esean)
7. Lt. Tijani Katsina(Hausa/
Fulani) 8. Lt. O. Olafemiyan(Yoruba)
9. Capt. Gibson Jalo(Bali)
10. Capt. Swanton(Middle Belt)
11. Lt. Hope Harris Eghagha
(Urhobo)
12. Lt. Dag Warribor(Ijaw) 13. 2nd Lt. Saleh Dambo(Hausa)
14. 2nd Lt. John Atom Kpera (Tiv).

So, to an unbiased observer,
what evidence can one provide
to show that Igbos actually
carried out the coup in order to
exterminate other tribes and
take over the country? It is very easy to sell falshood, but it is
very difficult to provide facts to
buttress your claims. It is now clear even to a
suckling, that the imperialist
genocidists crammed up this
murderous lies against the
Igbos to find reasons to
perpetually keep them under hate.
One even wonders why the
nigerian state and perpetrators
of the gruesome genocide have
been preventing the proper
documentation of that episode for the benefits of her posterity.

The coup wasn't even executed by 70% Igbos. It was executed by over 94% Igbos. cheesy It is referred to as the Igbo Coup. They didn't kill people from your tribe. It was like "ethnic cleansing". They kill to get power. Dey shed human blood. They encourage oda coup that followed. They caused the civil war and they are indirectly responsible for all the casualties of the war. The coupists are : Majors Nzeogwu, Ifeajuna, Ademoyega,
Okafor, Anuforo, Chukwuka, Obienu, Onwuatuegwu
and Chude-Sokei. Shortly before the coup, Chude-
Sokei was posted overseas. On the coup day itself,
Obienu failed to show, leaving seven Majors as
participants. When it came to execution, the
Majors designated five officers as regional
commanders for the coup’s execution. Of
Nzeogwu’s "five", there were "the two of us in the
North" (Nzeogwu and Major Tim Onwuatuegwu),
and three more in the South.

The Victims: The citizens were terribly shocked when top-
ranking government
functionaries including the Prime Minister, Alhaji
Abubakar Tafawa
Balewa, were killed in a selective elimination that
tended to give the
whole exercise an ethnic coloration. Others who
died were the premier
of Northern Region, Sir Ahmadu Bello; the premier
of Western Nigeria,
Chief Samuel Ladoke Akintola and the Finance
Minister, Chief Festus
Okotie-Eboh. Also, Brig. S.A. Ademulegun, Major S.A.
Adegoke, Lt. Col. J.Y. Pam, Brig. Zakari Maimalari
and Col. Kur Mohammed died. Others who lost their
lives included Lt. Col. Largema, S/Ltd.. James Odu,
Col. S.A.Shodeinde and Lt. Col. A.G. Unegbe.

Often times I wonder why IPOBs and so called Biafrans talk about the civil war and quickly link it with genocide. I wonder too why half of a yellow sun movie adopted from the book of same name will try to portray the Nigerian government in bad light without actually narrating the whole event as it occurs. It is a shame too that history is no longer taught in schools like in the old past and many supposedly educated youths are naive.

What actually happened before the civil war?

There was a Igbo Coup.. The first coup d'etat in Nigeria. Almost all of the coupists were of Igbo origin. Not a single Igbo blood was shed. Lots of Northerners and Yorubas lost their lives. Worst still, there was jubilation amongst the Igbos. Songs were made to mock the dead. Hilarious pictures mocking the dead was circulated by the Igbos. No Igbo leader or group came out to condemn the coup. An Igbo man by the name Aguyi Ironsi became the head of state. His government shielded and refused to punish the Igbo coupists which was all the majority of the northerners and the Yorubas wanted. Igbos in the north were publicly in support of the coup even though northerners were in mourning. The deaths of the northerners and the Yorubas were uncalled for and an unprovoked attack. These are what eventually led to the civil war. This is what the IPOB and Biafran agitators don't mention.

The first coup led to a counter coup where many Igbo and a few Yorubas lost their lives. The northerners took over and in retaliation of their support for the first coup, northerners started killing them. They fled to the east in droves. Ojukwu declared Biafra.
Then the Nigerian state declared war, fired the first shot and over 3 million were martyred.

the first coup was not an igbo coup. For the fact. Dat among the 4 main players, two were igbo, doesn't make it an igbo coup. Major wale ademoyega was not an igbo soldier, neither was col banjo.these were major players in d coup. Moreover there were igbo casualties in d putsh,...google col arthur unaegbe. Plus the whole country ,not just igbos jubilated that coup, dat sought to oust corruption and other vices, amd probably install awolowo,a yoruba man as president! Well, dat was before things began 2 be viewed by ur type thru ethnic prisms,...the rest they say is history,...!

It was a war fella. People die in wars. Both sides suffer casualties. Biafra invaded Ore, a Yoruba town. They unsuccessful tried to invade Lagos, another Yoruba town. If it was the other way, the federal forces would have suffered in the hands of Biafra. The war was caused by the January 1966 Igbo Coup. If that coup d'etat didn't occur, there won't have been any need for the war.
