She went on to explain how workers in that government departments have sectionalize the workforce and how she fought tirelessly to create a balance.... You skipped this part of canker worm that is eating deep into the fabrics of national integration and development.

Onyeka Onwuenu is a PRO Nigerian. Her first marriage was to a yoruba man....You see why she isn't a tribalist?

Her songs has always been about ONE Nigeria, LOVE amongst tribes and all the media gingles she did for government promoting ONE nation.

Here's a woman who believes in one Nigeria, Promotes Nigeria crying out for equal right and privileges in the same nation she so much believe in and all you do was to find hate to justify a bad system.

Are you more Nigerian than she is or you're just a tribalist believing the Injustices she recounts will carry on forever?

If you need a GOOD and working NATION, do the right thing. She didn't complain she was sacked, she only recounts her challenges while discharging her duties

1. There is tribalism in every government agency - it is not exclusively targeted at Igbo people - but yes it is a huge problem.

2. I think Onyeka's problem with the guys she worked with stemmed more from their strong resistance to actually putting in work; trust me anyone who tried to bring about the transformation she described in her article would face very stiff opposition in any government agency. I'm aware that even in the Lagos Civil Service (which is seemingly the most urbane), the bosses at the top face a lot of spiritual attacks, especially where they are perceived to be "making life difficult" for their laggard subordinates.

3. Further to point 2, I've heard stories of how Onyeka was high-handed at this agency plus she also got her hands dirty with a couple of funny deals, so she can quit the "Jesus my saviour pretense.

3. Onyeka as a person can be quite nasty, and the truth is that the nastiness some of us in the private sector (especially financial services) get away with would get you into serious shit with these public servant types. I know top dogs in government agancies who are more careful with the very low cadre Staff than even senior staff. The nastiness of this brood is one of the reasons the labour union in this country is very effective (mostly at promoting bullshit) at many organizations.

4. The sack was not directed at any tribe, so Onyeka should quit trying to sneak the tribe card on us (even though some of the things she mentioned here are quite bewildering and need looking into).

5. Anywhere in this country where public sector behavour has taken root, fighting them is very difficult, bitter and very dangerous. When Funke Osibodu worked to push out these lot from union bank, she faced a lot of intimidation and even spiritual attacks (ask around from people in the know). Unon Bank had BOs and in some cases AMs who were drivers (i don suffer).

6. Tribalism is very real in Nigeria, and I dont know if its just my perception, but it seems to have become a more acute problem since after the election, with the SE and SS feeling left out of the equation, while the rest of the country views their protests as attacks (a bit simplistically), thus dismissing them.

You cant understand what she is saying until you work in Federal government agencies where mediocrity is promoted on the alter of tribe and nepotism. Like I said yesterday, many Northerners, (Few of my northerner friends are hard working) even in their states do not work yet collect salaries (Remember yesterday's story where 30 drivers collect salaries over one working car). Let us call a spade a spade, we cant grow as a country if our appointments are sentiment, religious and tribal based.
As an insider, our leaders need to wake up and stop pampering our brothers from disadvantaged states on mediocrity.

The topic of this thread is misleading @op. No where in the press release did Onye ka accuse the president of sacking her because she is Igbo.

I understand why she felt she was targeted because is Igbo. But what would have made her complaints credible is to tell us her achievement for the past 2 and half years that she was DG of NCWD.

she should have decorated the whole article with activities she headed to empower women despite all the challenges she faced.

Onyeka Owenu has always been an opportunist. She has no principles and stands for nothing except her pocket.
I remember in the days of NADECO protests after Moshood Abiolas election was annulled by General Babangida. Onyeka was a staunch supporter of Moshood Abiola and his NADECO group but immediately General Abacha overthrew Mr Shonekans government and became tje maximum ruler Onyeka Owenu quickly jumped ship,abandoned NADECO and became an Abacha apologist. Infact during the one million man march urging General Abacha to transmute into a civillian president,Onyeka Owenu was at the forefront with Abass Akande Obesere,stridently screaming for Abacha to rule for ever.
After the demise of Abacha,Ms Owenu reinvented herself and latched on the coat tails of Stella Obasanjo when Olusegun Obasanjo was president. She was a regular performer at Aso
Rock during that period.
Again during Goodluck and Patience Jonathan presidency Ms Owenu ingrained herself in the presidency and was compensated with her appointment as a DG.
During the last election Ms Owenu was very visible where she used her music to campaign for her principal and rained all kinds of abuse on the incumbent president calling him an illiterate without a school certificate.
And when Mr Jonathan lost the election and the incumbent was sworn in Ms Owenu was again photgraphed kneeling down before Mr Buhari whom she had severely insulted on the campaign trail.
Mr Buhari still left Ms Owenu in her position as a DG for over seven months and she on her part did not have the moral rectitude to tesign her appointment but rather shamelessly continued to serve under an illiterate without a certificate.
Now she plays the victim and flashes the ethnicity master card? The mind boggles.
