Dallol ( Amharic : ዳሎል) was a settlement in the Dallol woreda of northern Ethiopia. Located in Administrative Zone 2 of the Afar Region in the Afar Depression, it has a latitude and longitude of 14°14′19″N 40°17′38″E / 14.23861°N 40.29389°E with an elevation of about 130 metres (430 ft) below sea level. The Central Statistical Agency has not published an estimate for this settlement's 2005 population; it has been described as a ghost town. Dallol currently holds the official record for record high average temperature for an inhabited location on Earth, where an average annual temperature of 35°C (96°F) was recorded between the years 1960 and 1966. Dallol is also one of the most remote places on Earth, although paved roads to the village of Hamedela, which is close, are being built. Still, the most important mode of transport besides jeeps are the camel caravans which travel to the area to collect salt. Nearby is the Dallol volcano, which last erupted in 1926.

Smooyis:
The reason for the unusual heat is because we are very close to the equator. Exactly from today, it's a month's time before the spring equinox which is 21st of March. At this time, the sun will be overhead at the equator, and as such the sun is most close to the earth at this period as the sun's rays are vertically and intensely above those areas that are within the tropics.

This takes place every year., but this year heat seems to be hotter really.

I'm not surprised that Nigerians don't know that articles on Google and Wikipedia are written by people and anyone can log into Wikipedia and edit it at anytime

Give me your name and i will write about you on Wikipedia and Google.

I have presented my own facts, present yours and let's argue constructively, and also, so what if I'm Nigerian, so what if you happened to be given birth to as an American citizen, do you actually think that something as happenstance as citizenship makes you automatically smarter, clever or knowledgeable than me?, f you dude and don't mention me again unless to present hard veritable facts to me,

Now these are my facts
Africa has the largest, hottest desert in the world.
Death valley once had a very high surface temperature reading, but Dallol, Ethiopia, has the average hottest temperature in the whole world, after having been measured for six frigging years.

Could this be the global warming I always hear in all these James bond movies?

I don't know if it's only me that have been experiencing this unprecedented excessive increase in general temperature. Heat just too much abeg!
I end up bathing up to 8 times in just a day even at midnights. There's currently scarcity of normal cold water for bathing in my area; all the taps, pumps and tanks around produce HOT water without anybody boiling them angry sad

Please nairalanders how are your areas let me know if I will have to relocate; and who do we blame for this grin ??

Just last night I was about to suffocate, even the fan was producing very hot air and I couldn't take it no more. As I tried to lay outside at the balcony I nearly melted; the damn floor has not gotten rid of the afternoon's sun yet. The floor was smoking, I had to improvise then. I filled a bucket with the usual hot water and then brought out 3 sachet water that I had earlier left in the freezer to block. I tore out the sachets entirely and put the bare blocks in my bucket of water (drastic times call for drastic measures) shocked undecided . After some minutes I carried the bucket to the bathroom, took off my already sweat-soaked boxers and as I splashed the water on my body, Lo and behold I just heard the exact sound akara balls make when it's being thrown into hot oil grin ; I got all fresh again and decided not use the towel so that the refreshing feeling can last a while longer. To my dismay, I got to my wardrobe, searched a few seconds for another boxers, put it on. Then as I raised my head up, I got the feeling of something rushing down my bare back.. (God save me from karashika)

Nwanne I had to improvise again. I changed the position of mattress in a way it's adjacent to the refrigerator. I opened the refrigerator wide open and slept with my head stuck in it.

This morning, it was the sound of the boiling egusi soup I had in the freezer that woke me up. The ice in the freezer had melted and the egusi was having great fun inside the bowl even trying to throw the cover over. As I opened the bowl and interrupted it's little party, it was very unforgiven and threw back at me the most horrible stench I've ever perceived in lifetime. My rich soup has soured!! cry cry

Please nairalanders how are your areas let me know if I will have to relocate; and who do we blame for this grin ??

Ah! even if this topic has gotten to the sixth page, i must still comment o. I thought i was the only one experiencing this extremity. I almost wondered if the position of our house was the reason. Even the water from shower is very hot. Sleeping on tiles used to be a succour, now it's hell. The floor holds on to the afternoon heat like forever. My birthday is around the corner, i wouldn't mind a Split Unit (2horse-power)as a gift. **Tongue in cheek**
