Help!transmission Gurus In The House by genkins(m): 7:13pm On Feb 22, 2016 |
Goodday all..I've had my own fair share of transmission issues with 2 previous Honda cars I used In the past..each time I get a new car ie toks or fairly used..lol ie any,new to me..I develop fear as to what I will do if I experience tranny issues or which original atf to use if i have to service.I live in abuja..here all the mechanics I meet seem to be more interested in squeezing out all the money u can muster.I'm so scared about cars now cuz they gulp good money atimes half of what I used to buy the car.but with no solution in sight.often worse than wen i drove into thier shop.now..I own this madza xedos 6 car with automatic gear that suddenly developed tranmission issues..it refused to select gear 4 and 5 again |

I complained to my mechs..they said maybe it is an electrical issue..to cut d long story short..all d electrical guys cudnt fix it.I was advised to change the gear,I did..it resulted in me buying a new engine..but yet even with d new gear and engine..the car has refused to select gear 4 n 5..I'm frustrated.. I put d car up for sale and that's where ul get ridiculous offers.I like d car and if okay I wouldn't want to sell..it's a v6 sef..pls offer advise or a solution.. I know inside me that d issue is not even a big one.note there is a hold button by the gear lever that limits gear selection..I'm even suspecting that d issue cud be from d button..d mechs don't even understand why I mean..pls help |

I feel your pain. Have you done a car scan? A lot of Abuja mechanics are not sincere at all. |

genkins: This is serious that button is called your over drive button which allows your transmission go into the 4th 5th and probably 6th gear if your ride is a 6speed transmission. If you have the "over drive" (od) light illuminated on your cluster then your transmission wouldn't go into 5th and 6th gear. Make sure you press the button to deactivate it and make sure it doesn't come up on your instrument cluster. Your ride is obd2 compliant. In addition you might want to run a scan on your ride. This would tell you exactly what is going on. Or still have a personal scan tool that would allows you check faults on your cars. Days of trial by errors are over |

why can't I meet this kind of customer? what then did you pay for? How do you explain paying over 150k and getting NO result? The days of the 504 are over, all you needed was a scan tool to check all gear selections while driving, that rules out mechanical damage to the gear then you move on to find the culprit. Call Mike in abuja to help you diagnose the problem. 08111433883 |

Siena: Be ready to also change your clutch plates if a learner drive the car. I know it's not that expensive though. "No better road to Arochukwu" it's an adage. Lol 2 Likes |

Kashif: Sorry we are derailing, but no road to Arochukwu is good. You really need off roaders to go there. |

genkins: genkins: thanks for clearifying the Model of your vehicle. Before you go to a last resort (transmission change or sale of vehicle)I recommend a total oil drain. For starters 5speed Automatic gear transmission was not available to most passenger vehicles during the year of manufacture of your Mazda 6 xedos. That said, what your car is having difficulty in selecting is 3 and 4 gear ratio. My advice do not use the vehicle until you have done the 80 - 20 oil change. See link below of the recommended oil grade for available models of mazda 6 xedos. http://cararac.com/gear_oil/mazda/xedos-6.html Let me know if your vehicle is the 1.6l or 2.0l that would guide you on the number of liters required for your oil change. Hopefully if there is not sever mechanical damage to your transmission a change to the right recommended grade will be all you need do. Kindly look at the ATF test chart below and tell me which was the condition of the oil before the 1st change
