Please, can somebody help me out. What is the right or normal weight for a 21 months old baby? At birth, she weighed about 3.4kg, there after in the course of her growing up over the months, she was fat and weighing between 16kg to 18kg, but just of recent, she has not only reduced drastically, but her body weight is about 12kg now. But the nurse has advised that there is nothing to be worried about, that the present 12kg is very normal and ok for her age. The Nurse further said that the 18kg she weighed earlier in her developmental process, was not too good for her age. The baby is okay, but for the current hot weather, which causes a lot of heat that causes discomfort to her, particularly at nights and this makes her temperature high. Please advise on the true position, whether it's normal or not and if not, what is the remedy? Thanks

At 21months your baby should weigh between 14-15kg. However the 12kg is pardonable given genetics and other environmental factors. The nurse is right in telling you the child was overweight previously which can be detrimental to her health. As long as she is feeding fine and playing the way she normally plays and you have also dewormed her, I don't think you have anything to worry about.

Mothers intuition is almost always right and if you are worried please take her to a paediatrician who will he able to examine the baby and take a history from you and advise accordingly.

My daughter is older than yours but she occasionally goes through noticeable growth spurts when she will suddenly grow taller and skinny and then she will fill out again.

It could be that your baby has suddenly become more active, and when my baby started walking she became skinnier. But do see a specialist if you are worried.
