The Abuja - Lokoja highway was conceptualized during the Abacha era and handled by half a dozen 'contractors. That road is 300 odd kilometres long or 300,000 metres. You can easily get an army of 300,000 idle youth in the shadow of that road to each deliver a section 1 metre wide by 20 metres across in 24 hours; grade, fill, compact and lay; if you provide the materials. That project has been on-going for 20 years without end. This is how infrastructure was started in China in the 70's. This is how some less well off provinces in South East Asia tiger on today. Governance is not hard.

Those promises were made at $100 dollar oil. Not realistic at $30 dollar oil. Leadership must evaluate its decisions at every moments.
Kudos PMB.

Yes it is a failed promise. But it is better to made d right decision even though it may lead to failed promises.

This post is not to defend PMB. This post is to support him for making the right decision. I never agree to the 5000 naira stipend to unemployed graduate. It would have be a waste. But 5000 naira for the most vunerable 1million nigerians (Mostly widows and physically challenge) is welcome if we can fund it. 5k to unemployed graduate is a no no no.

PMB did not deny the promise was made despite the fact that he never personally made d promise. He is only saying on his scale of preference, that is not among top priority.

PMB is a firm and sincere leader. He speak his mind straight up.

No president in the world including United State of America, have ever succeeded in fulfilling all campaign promises.

At every point in time, a leader must evaluate what he consider most important to d nation and make a bold decision. Leadership is dynamic

It is better to be criticise for not achieving a campaign promise than implementing a promise that is unrealistic just to save face.

Even if it means losing the next election,or losing popularity, a leader must put the country first.

The funny thing is dat those wailers who never supported the idea, who said it will promote laziness, will still be the one to condemn and criticise him for not prioritising it instead of commending him for doing d needful.

I am living in governance mode.
I dont care about what campaign promise were. I only care about good governance. Any campaign promise that is not realistic today can go to hell.

For those who cares so much about campaign promises, you can use ur PVC in 2019 and vote what u want.

Leadership is about optimising available resources for the best of the country. Not wasting it on project in order to look good and save face.
A promise is a promise, and coming from a so called honest person like Buhari, we expect him to fulfill it.

I'd known that someday, this would be the case. So it's not news to me. From antecedents, I can suggest what Buhari would do & even at that, this is just the beginning. More of disappointments are coming. No hatred oh... It's my opinion. #gbam.

what is really wrong with all these foolish zombies? no matter what this fool they call president do they will still hail him. its alright am just observing. all I know is that Nigeria can never ever get better. until every tribe go their seperate ways cus as a country together we can never trive because of ethnicity that is while people don't vote leaders because of their competence but because of tribe if not Buhari can never be a President of Nigeria.

This was an unrealistic promise from the get-go but GMB and crew chose to exploit hunger and illiteracy for which his region accounts the highest. On the basis of these and many more fork-tongued promises, he was voted into power by a supposed majority naturally from that same region.

He is touted as a man of integrity so he had better live up to it and give them their 5k!
Is it by force?...

Was it by force to make promises? Nigerians have been lied to one time too many by these set of people called politicians. He held himself out as different and saintly among all others. He should dare to live up to his promises and keep his word!

The Apc has introduced a dangerous precedence to electioneering campaign in Nigeria. Worse still the gullible voters are not holding them accountable to these dubious promises. Henceforth in future elections political parties would be competing on who will tell the most lies to hoodwink the voters because they now know the governed are 'foolish'. Things will never be the same again.

Is this even a topic to be discussed?

When APC promised "change", I knew they meant "surprises"

It's a daunting fact that when he made this promises, he said them all in the name of getting votes and having a better outlook from the general masses. I bet he as at then knew all were unrealistic, yet he knows Nigerians are easy to " deceive".

Don't blame him, like the other nairalander's said, all he wants to do is travel round the world before he retires.

As I person, I stopped believing him, and only read headlines now for his SURPRISES and not the supposed CHANGE

An advice to the house, "Let's just sit back and enjoy the ride"
