Rubbish!! So you collect the DNA samples, scrapings and all the forensics and do what with it? Compare against what database? Do we even have DNA labs here? I recall when the thieves took robbed us and took a car. We recovery the vehicle abandoned somewhere in jabi. Police cordoned off the area and didn't let us take the vehicle; said crime lab had to come and dust for prints. 1 hour later some chap comes with a big box and starts messing up everywhere with his brush and black powder. I decide to ask one of the police officers what database they want to run the prints against. He looks at me and tells me " no be so e dey work. We will put the prints in a machine and it will just build up the image of the owner of the prints" . For fear of being shot, I said that's wonderful!!! And walked away... now Lagos State are procuring rape kits...issorai...

It's called a rape kit. It's used to collect evidence of rape, eg spe.rm, saliva, etc from the scene of the incident and the victim's body . This is used when, for example, a person is accused of rape and he says that he didn't have intercourse with the victim. The authorities can then collect DNA sample from the accused and see if it matches the DNA sample they got from the scene of the incident/the victim's body.

They are also building a DNA lab (http://www.lagosstate.gov.ng/news2.php?k=2364)

Prevention is better than cure.

In recent cases, the victims know the perpetrators without any kits. What happened to those cases?

Nigeria officials like unnecessary gragra. Where is the fingerprint or DNA database they will use to identify the rapists? Will this kit help to identify armed robbers that rape their victims?

In as much as I appreciate the remedy kits to help determine the extent of damage caused to the victim, I think there is need to stem up the laws and rules that will deter such horrible men from such evil acts (I mean the rules that will be severing and deadly to the culprit), may be we can settle less on crying on split milk.

I hope they educate Nigerians on how to use it. A rape kit becomes useless as time elapses. It is recommended you go to a hospital within 24 hrs to get one done. But truth be told, i think it's a way to steal from Nigerians. Does Nigeria have a functional forensic department?

Preventing people from getting raped is not its primary purpose (although it does that indirectly). Its primary purpose is to provide evidence that will help to ensure that guilty people are convicted and innocent people are freed.

This is all they need.women to wear these kits when they are not sure.

I hope Ambooooo also introduce the Rape Kit for Men because men are also vulnerable. They get raped by women but nobody go complain about that one o. We know older women who rape young boys of 12 - 16 years of age.

Rape kit uncle. The raape has already occurred, the kit is to collect samples that would be used as evidence against the rapist.
