Falcons to face Senegal/Guinea in AWC

The reigning African queens will battle either of the two west African teams to reach the 12th edition of the Africa Women Cup of Nations


Nigeria women national team will face Senegal or Guinea in the second round of the qualifiers for the 2016 Africa Women Cup of Nations billed for Cameroon.


The Super Falcons drew bye alongside Ghana, Cote D’ivoire, South Africa and Equatorial Guinea in the first round and must get past either of the two west African sides to stand a chance of defending their trophy.


While first round matches hold in March 2016, second round first leg matches are fixed between April 8-10, 2016 with the second round holding between April 22 and April 24, 2015.


The seven teams to emerge from the qualifiers will join hosts Cameroon for the final tournament scheduled for Nov. 19 to Dec. 3, 2016.


Nigeria won a record seventh title after defeating Cameroon 2-0 in the final of the 2014 edition staged in Namibia with goals from Asisat Oshoala and Desire Oparanozie.

The tournament will be held in Cameroon between 19 November and 3 December 2016.[1] The initial dates were 8–22 October 2016, but were changed due to weather considerations.[2] A total of eight teams will play in the tournament.[3]


On 6 August 2015, the CAF Executive Committee decided to change the name of the tournament from the African Women's Championship to the Africa Women Cup of Nations, similar to the men's version, Africa Cup of Nations

The Super Falcons star and American football legend Abby Wambach will be addressing a forum at the home of Fifa in Switzerland on March 7


Nigeria international Asisat Oshoala joins a raft of footballing legends and big football names who will speak at the Fifa Women’s Football and Leadership Conference, Switzerland on March 7, 2016.


The gathering titled ‘Equality Through Reform’ accords with the International Women’s Day will bring together diverse voices from sport and wider society to channel a roadmap in which women in football can be further promoted.

Oshoala joins 2012 Fifa Women’s World Player of the Year, Abby Wambach, Samar Nassar (Chief Executive Director of the Local Organising Committee for the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup Jordan 2016) and Brigitte Henriques (General Secretary of the French Football Association) in the forum which is a proactive step for the world football governing body to drive progress for a new era of development and engagement in women’s football.


Billie Jean King, founder of Women’s Sport Foundation; Kristin Hetle, Director of Strategic Partnerships at UN Women, and the FIFA Executive Committee representatives, Lydia Nsekera, Sonia Bien-Aime and Moya Dodd, will kick off the panel discussions.

Current Nigerian U-17 Flamingoes Asst.coach and Super Falcons legend, Ann Agumanu Chiejine is to be named as part of the New Super Falcons technical/coaching crew.
And interestingly, we have The all-time record goals scorer of the CAF AWC and Super Falcons Legend, Perpetua Ijeoma Nkwocha as Head coach.

PERPETUA NKWOCHA NEW FALCONS COACH


Former international Perpetua Nkwocha will soon be named coach of Nigeria women’s team, the Super Falcons, to be assisted by another ex-international Ann Chiejine.
One of Nigeria's all-time greats, Nkwocha has bagged her coaching badges at her base of Sweden, while former international goalkeeper Chiejine has been assistant coach at Nigeria’s U17 women’s team, the Flamingoes.
The immediate task of Nkwocha and Chiejine is
qualifying the Falcons to the African Women’s
Championship later this year in Cameroon.

Nigeria are the defending champions after they beat Cameroon in the final in Namibia two years ago.
The Falcons have been without a coach since the
team failed to qualify for the Rio Olympics last year.
The broke Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) were
mulling hiring a foreign coach, but they shelved this
idea when they could not raise the cash to do so.

Super Falcons caretaker coach, Florence Omagbemi
has called to camp 40 players ahead of the 2016 Africa Women Cup of Nations qualifying fixture against either of Senegal or Guinea.

The seven-time African champions, Falcons were
drawn bye into the second round of the qualifying
series with the final competition to hold in Cameroon in November.

The senior women teams of Senegal and Guinea will contend over two legs in March with the winner to battle the Super Falcons in home-and-away contests between April 4 - 12.

Top on the list include goalkeepers, Ibubeleye
Whyte and Sandra Chichi, defenders, Onome Ebi,
Josephine Chukwunonye, Ngozi Ebere and Joy
Jegede, midfielders, Halimatu Ayinde, Ngozi Okobi,

I didn't see Ini Umotong Portsmouth Ladies striker. Am tired of Oparanozie that lacks the strong Desire to score goals especially against non African oppositions.
