TheSuperNerd:Where is Uchechi Sunday? The girl played and scored in the champions league, to me she is our best striker. |

Uchechi Sunday, Who I call our "cristiano ronaldo" coz of her build and athleticism. Starred alongside Oshoala at Canada 2014 Fifa U-20 world cup and scored about 4 goals or so in that tournament. I even forgot mentioning her in my list of notable absentees. Well, this is the new crew's first assignment. Hopefully, she and others like Dike and Umotong get to be called up in subsequent games. TheSuperNerd: Yes I will, its high time we begin to shop for younger and hungrier forwards since Oparanozie has continued without the needed Desire. Can you tell me one complete dribble she made during the last World Cup? She finds it difficult to cause serious damage to opposing defenders. |

olapluto: That's what we are saying. As far as I am concerned, Oparanozie has dully lost her starting slot in the national team, if we can for once go by merit. |
| Re: Super Falcons of Nigeria Thread: 2015 Women's World Cup by TheSuperNerd(m): 3:43pm On Mar 02, 2016 |
Hmm.... Ajibade is the youngest here and very exciting. Uchechi, Dike, and Ihezuo are all gifted forwards with boundless potentials. I didn't see Umotong on your list. Yet NLban says he will pick her ahead of Oparanozie. Oparanozie is already a veteran because she started so young with the Falcons. People seem to forget how old she is. #smiles olapluto: |

Hey uhmm.... If it's argument you want, I'm not giving it. But just one question, How old (or how young) is Oparanozie? (You make it sound like she's "old" ![]() **she was 18 at the Fifa U-20 Women World cup 2010 and 20 at the Fifa U-20 Women World cup 2012** Umotong over Oparanozie?? Maybe others in the house will answer that. #smiles NLban: |

Oparanozie is still in her mid-twenties (officially), so I'll still give her some playing time for the SF. Her poor form at the last World Cup and the Olympic qualifiers shouldn't be a reason to shut her out of the team. But if she's invited to the team for some other AWC matches, and she flops again, then I'll fear for her future with the national team. Furthermore, I don't agree that the SF need a non-Nigerian coach. The likes of Ann Chiejine and Perpetua Nkwocha have gone true the necessary training to be coaches and deserve to be given a long-term contract till the 2019 World Cup in France. These 2 ex-players and Florence Omagbemi will also command the respect of the players, having played for a combined 20+years for the national team. |

TheSuperNerd: I think the problem with me is that, I expect too much from her. Believe me she is not the player I knew during her days with the U20s. She didn't do much as I had expected in our last matches before the end of last year. No arguments intended though. |
| Re: Super Falcons of Nigeria Thread: 2015 Women's World Cup by Icon4s(m): 10:55am On Mar 03, 2016*. Modified: 4:58pm On Mar 05, 2016 |
NLban:This is a general problem affecting most of the Super Falcon players. Nigeria has persistently paraded killer squads at the last four U20 World cups. We have played in 3 semis and 2 finals. However, our Super Falcons have not benefitted from these U20 achievements. From the 2008 U20 I can recall outstanding players like Sarah Michael, Ebere Orji, Chiwendu Chikwelu among others. And I think Opranozie was in that team as a 16 yrs old. They lost 3-2 to France in the quarter final. The 2010 quad had the likes of Desire Opranozie, Ebere Orji, Uchechi Sunday, Rebecca Kalu, Helen Ukaonu, Esther Sunday, Osinachi Ohale. They lost in the final to host Germany. The 2012 squad had: Franscesca Ordega, Ebere Orji, Desire Oparanozie, Ngozi Okobi, Esther Sunday, Ugo Njoku, Josephine Chukwunonye, Asisat Oshoala and others. They finished 4th The 2014 squad had: Chiwendu Ihezue, Courtney Dike, Asisat Oshoala, Ugo Njoku, Uchechi Sunday, Loveth Ayila, Osarenoma Igbinovia, Sarah Nnodim among others. This set to me is the best crop of U20 the Nigerian female team has ever produced. They painted that tourney with goals. Asisat Oshola, Courtney Dike and Uchechi Sunday where ruthless. Observation: A good number of these players featured up to 2 or 3 times which I would say is good for their exposure and experience. Looking back from 2008 to 2014 it means all these players would be 28yrs or less now.I know one thing abt female football: The older and more experienced the better. Nigeria should be competing with likes of USA, Germany, Sweden and Japan at Senior women football level now. We have produced female players that have almost conquered the world on abt 3 occasions even with some of these girls featuring 2ce or 3ce. Now the question is what went wrong? Could it be the local league? Age cheating? Lack of quality Team handlers? Bad Team selection? I think it is all of the above. Until the NFF tackles each of the possible reasons for the set-back listed above we may not make progress in women football. |

I Love Female Football With Passion. But The Major Issue With The Nigerian Female Teams Is Lack Of Support From The Nigerian Football Body. See How Long The Team Stayed Without A Coach. Our Female League Is Too Dis Organised Despite The Abundance Of Talents. Another Thing Is That Age Cheat In Female Football Is rampant And Un-Checked. Sunday Uchechi x Older Dan Are She Claims And Desire oparanozie x a suspect Also. But A Better Support From Nff wil improve d teams' luck |

Nigeria: Oshoala Rues Missed Olympic, Visits Hs Media Group https://d19lga30codh7.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/OshoalaArsenal.jpg Former CAF and BBC Women's Player of the Year, Asisat Oshoala who paid a courtesy visit to HS Media Group on Thursday has expressed sadness over Super Falcons failure to qualify for the Rio2016 Olympic Games. "It's a very bad feeling. It could have been my first Olympics for Nigeria. It's unfortunate that I wasn't there when the qualifiers were played because I was injured. A lot of key players were absent in the qualifying game as well. Sometimes these things happen in football, we are not perfect and things don't go smoothly for everyone all the time," Oshoala said. https://ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/59DC/production/_87940032_asisatoshoala2.jpg Asisat Oshoala featured for Nigeria at last year's Women's World Cup Looking agile and smart as usual, Oshoala who was at the HS Media Group to build a mutual relationship with the media outfit before the kick off of the English Women's Soccer League season on Saturday where she is expected to make her debut for the Arsenal Ladies, blamed the low points of her career last season on her injury with the Liverpool Ladies. It was a lay off that cost the young Super Falcons striker a chance of playing in her first Olympics with the failure of the Falcons to qualify for the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics and also pushed her out of reckoning for the CAF Women's Player of the Year award for last season. Oshoala believes the new crop of coaches in the Falcons led by former captain, Florence Omagbemi and assisted by two former skippers, Ann Chiejine and Pepetual Nkwocha are capable of restoring the team's image in the continent and moving the senior female national team to greater heights. "We are not going to the Olympics, but we still have the Nations Cup to play this year and we can still go for the trophy and get something for 2016," the former Liverpool striker said. On the choice of switching from Liverpool to the female Gunners for the new season, Oshoala said: "Well you know sometimes in life you have to take a step further to make the difference in you, it's going to be a strong challenge, but I'm ready to make the difference." Oshoala is also confident that her new relationship with HS Media Group will yield good fruits. "I work with my spirit, I work with myself. Once I'm convinced that something will work out, I follow it through to the end. I know is going to be successful," Oshoala said. http://allafrica.com/stories/201603040919.html |

Asisat Oshoala: Nigerian granted permit to join Arsenal Ladies from Liverpool Ladies ...................................................................................... Nigeria international striker Asisat Oshoala has been granted a UK work permit, clearing the path for her to complete a switch to Arsenal Ladies from rivals Liverpool Ladies. Arsenal Ladies' bid was "reluctantly accepted" by their fellow Women's Super League One side in January. The Gunners activated a release clause in Oshoala's contract, subject to her gaining a work permit for 2016. Oshoala, 21, was named the BBC's Women's Footballer of the Year in 2015. She is presently in Zurich as a panellist at the Fifa Women's Football and Leadership Conference 2016 and is expected in London on Wednesday to finalise her switch to the two-time FA Women's Super League champions. Oshoala joined Liverpool ahead of the 2015 WSL campaign but injury blighted her time at the club and she only scored three goals in 12 league outings last season. The first player from Africa to compete in the Women's Super League, Oshoala burst into the limelight when she emerged as the leading scorer at the 2014 Under-20 World Cup in Canada and was voted the tournament's best player. Her performances led Nigeria to the final, where they were narrowly beaten by Germany, and she was also a major influence in the senior Nigeria team, who won a record seventh African Women's Championship in October 2014. That ensured their qualification for last summer's Women's World Cup in Canada, where Oshoala scored her only goal of the competition in a thrilling 3-3 opening match against Sweden. But the first player to win the BBC Women's Footballer of the Year award, voted for by football fans around the world, could not stop the African champions from exiting the tournament in the group stage. ................................................................................ m.bbc.com/sport/football/35745229 |

^^ Alex Morgan is also the highest earning female footballer in the world. She earns around $3 million annually, most of which is from endorsements worth $2.8 million. The US Soccer Federation pays her a salary of about $200,000 per year. The top French players (and English players) on that list earn not less than $60,000 per year. It will take decades before the average earnings of top female footballers rival those of their male counterparts. |

I sure hope to see Nigerian Falcons' Stars make this World XI in the coming years. MEANWHILE, BEHOLD, WOMEN FOOTBALL'S FIRST WORLD XI CALLED THE FIFPRO WOMEN'S WORLD XI .......................................................................... Note: The same FIFPRO partners with FIFA for the Annual FIFA/FIFPRO World XI for Men's Football @ every Ballon D'or ceremony. Been on since 2005. ................................................ FIRST WOMEN'S WORLD XI REVEALED FIFPro is proud to unveil the first Women’s World XI. The player-driven award, which is selected by female footballers worldwide, includes four members from the World Cup-winning US national team. “It’s an honor to be selected by the players,” said World Player of the Year, Carli Lloyd. “This is a great step forward in terms of equality, respect and recognition for women’s football." “I’d like to thank FIFPro for making this possible. It’s an initiative that will be appreciated by female players all over the world.” All four US stars: Lloyd, Hope Solo, Meghan Klingenberg and Julie Johnston are based at home in the NWSL (National Women’s Soccer League). With the addition of Kedeisha Buchanan, North America has five players on the world’s best team. Twenty-year-old Canadian international defender Buchanan is the youngest player in the team. A student at the University of West Virginia, she made quite an impression at last year’s World Cup where she was voted Best Young Player. The French top-flight is well represented with four players. Notably, Olympique Lyonnais has three of their own making the cut: Eugenie Le Sommer, Amandine Henry and Wendie Renard, the most from any one club. “I am very proud to be voted in the FIFPro World XI. It is an honor for me to be a part of this team with all these great players,” said Le Sommer. Paris Saint Germain’s Anja Mittag is one of two Germans in attack, lining up alongside Celia Sasic who only recently announced her retirement from the game. "I'm very happy to be in the team, especially knowing that it's the players who voted,” said Mittag. “It's really great to know that from this moment on we’ll have our own World XI.” This World XI breaks new ground, the first award of its kind, for men or women, to contain players from the United States, Canada and Japan, with Aya Miyama being the sole representatitve from Asia. The concept of a Women’s World XI developed over the course of 2015 after FIFPro, the global players’ union, listened to numerous requests from female players seeking the same recognition as their male counterparts. FIFPro created the first World XI for men in 2005. “This is a landmark for the women’s game,” said FIFPro General-Secretary Theo van Seggelen. Female players of 33 different nationalities spread out over 20 countries participated in the test vote, the process for which is still being refined as part of a pilot phase to ensure as many players as possible have a chance to participate in future years. Players are required to pick one goalkeeper, four defenders, three midfielders and three forwards, using the same format employed in deciding the men’s award. For the first time, players were invited to make their submissions using an electronic voting system. This was combined with the traditional method of club and national team visits where players fill in ballot forms by hand. ..................................................................... WOMEN'S WORLD XI Goalkeeper: • Hope Solo (USA, Seattle Reign FC) Defenders (4): • Wendie Renard (France, Lyon) • Meghan Klingenberg (USA, Houston Dash) • Kadeisha Buchanan (Canada, West Virginia Mountaineers) • Julie Johnston (USA, Chicago Red Stars) Midfielders (3): • Carli Lloyd (USA, Houston Dash) • Amandine Henry (France, Lyon) • Aya Miyama (Japan, Okoyama Yunogo Belle) Forwards (3): • Celia Sasic (Germany, 1.FFC Frankfurt) * • Eugenie Le Sommer (France, Lyon) • Anja Mittag (Germany, PSG) *Retired ............................................................................ https://www.fifpro.org/en/news/first-ever-women-s-world-xi-revealed |

The event gave a platform to the sallow but rising hope of women and female players around the world. The successful event, titled ‘Equality Through Reform’, was geared towards planning how to take women’s football to the next level. Goal reached out to some African players involved to collate their demands from the Confederation of African Football (Caf) in bid to improve the women's game in Africa. Liverpool Ladies striker Asisat Oshoala, the only African featured as a panellist in Zurich, Equatorial Guinea defender Tobiloba Windapo, and Cameroon midfielder Carine Ndum all agreed to speak to us about the vision of the conference and any progress made. The trio appealed to Africa’s footballing body to provide improved competitions and increased recognition for the women's game. Here are their testimonies: https://static.goal.com/di/F1EFB549FB579C97805E4E7E5B6F3A72.jpg Asisat Oshoala: "There is a lot to ask from Caf because we lack a lot too as women footballers. Caf needs to engage more women in football administration. We want a good league organization structure like that of the men. We should have our own Africa U-17, U-20 cup competitions, and not only the World Cup that we see for our youth age groups. We can also have a women’s Champions League in Africa, where the champions of every country will battle for trophy. We want more investment in the league and domestic competition so as to make it attractive and rewarding, like the men. Caf can always get sponsors for the female leagues just as they get sponsors for the African Women Cup of Nations (Awcon). These are little things that can improve women's football in Africa.” https://static.goal.com/di/8D43229AFE5718AA5FE35397C88FBA65.jpg Tobiloba Windapo, Equatorial Guinea and Confluence Queens defender : "Africa is one of the continents that has produced the most talented female footballers, and is among top continents playing a great role in the development of the football in the men's category. But it is still behind in women's football. Africa needs more women’s competitions to help develop the ladies’ football and bring greater awareness to the continent. Caf should use their powerful office to attract women's football development in Africa, as such an event will help plant and promote grassroots programmes for talented female footballers. Africa has a great population of talents should not be neglected. Caf should invest more in women’s football at the age-grade levels, because Africa has more bright prospects with the female than the male at the international level. Caf needs not focus their attention only on male football, but also on the females, by organizing competitive youth competitions for the under 13s, 17s and 20s. The organizing of only the African Women’s Championship with no age-grade competition, is a major reason why the continent has not done well at the World Cup, even as the age-grade World Cups. With all these steps, I think women football in Africa will take a new shape and attract huge benefits.” https://static.goal.com/di/029238D400B229174A8DDAC2F8D34993.jpg Carine Ndum, Cameroon and Atasehir Belediyespor midfielder: "Women’s football in Africa is in an ugly state. It's not encouraging at all and it is neglected by Caf. There are no sponsors and no recognition, and countries in Africa lack quality and solid women’s leagues. Africa has talented female footballers, and Caf should support and help develop the game, but I'm confident, considering the increasing rate of stars from the continent dominating big clubs in Europe, that better days are here. Africa will be the best place to enjoy your football career. It is a shame we don't even have age-grade competitions on the continent except for World Cup qualifying series and Africa Women Championship. Caf should increase the number of teams in Awcon and also add more competitions to women just like men too not only Nations Cup and World Cup. If this is done, Caf will keep the women as busy as the men. https://static.goal.com/di/9937DBFEFB8C87A989E6F22E850D566B.jpg No African country has hosted a Women's World Cup at any level, and to date, Africa is the only continent without any age-grade championships for women, with these having been replaced with qualifying series for the U17, U20 Women's World Cups. The continent’s rich seam of female talent will be hoping that these players’ clarion call will prompt a change in approach for Caf. http://www.goal.com/en-ng/news/4079/features/2016/03/12/21217092/iwd-2016-what-african-women-footballers-want?ICID=HP_HN_1 |

^^ I'm happy for Oshoala, more power to her. I agree with the idea of having an African women's club competition even if most of the teams are amateur teams. And also back the calls for CAF to increase the number of final AWC teams to 12. More teams = more tournament experience for African teams. |
