I like the nature of this forum. Who knows the forum software they're using? XenForo, vbulletin or what?

You won't find something exactly like this because this forum was heavily re-constructed from its original structure.

SMF-Simple Machine Forum. Now I got the meaning. I have read about several forum software and I saw that vBulletin and Xenforo seems to be the best.

Nairaplus: Who says you can't find exactly something like Nairaland? The problem is that most people who want something exactly like NairaLand don't have the mental or fiscal wherewithal to actualize this.

Pay 150K and watch and see if I won't give you something exactly like NairaLand.
150K? Haba, that's too much. By the way, I've seen better forums than Nairaland. Forums is not just about the design, it is about making it to be popular.

Nairaland works on SIMPLE MACHINE FORUM.But its most about the traffic not just the forum. You simply need to follow those that have been there so that U can get there as well. Its very easy talk with Seun so that he will tell the way forward.

Codedrock: i think seun and his programmers programmed this script but in a similar way with smf.
It's not terribly similar but things like bbcode and urls had to be designed to be compatible with the existing forum for a smooth transition.

What an old post. I'm back to announce that I finally achieved my dream. But like some people said, getting traffic is VERY tough. I salute the owner of nairaland (Seun) for achieving such a great site. My forum is at FarmersJoint.com . Still have great work to do.

Good day sir, I am one of the great admirers of the nairaland invention,it has been a blessing and a gateway to ideas, entertainment and opportunities for me.
I am interested in forum building . I have gotten a niche(business) and I am considering paying a programmer to coding from a scratch(he is charging 150k).But ran into this discussion on nairaland that nairaland forum started from SMF and operated on that until last two years or so.
So I am asking for your advice concerning the best way to start giving what you already know(and men I really need to cut down cost!)
Also if there are surprises that I am to expect at the teething stage in terms of technical issues, time commitment ,promotion, moderation etc,any of such advice is welcome.have a great day

teamg, please can you elaborate on the maintenance you mean, because apart from the coding, hosting cost,i cannot envisage any other cost.maybe when the forum grows, they may be need for scaling up,yet i will love it if you clarify the likely invisible cost.thanks

Though there are basically no other cost managing a small forum with membership less than 50,000 members, you need to engage the programmer on a better contract to avoid him asking for more money when you start requesting for modifications.

New web projects usually would go through a lot of modifications as they are used. Engaging your programmer to be ready to give technical assistance for at least 6months with no extra cost will save you a lot of stress. Alternatively, you could use already developed forum technologies which have evolved and are very stable to avoid the challenges of regular updates, upgrades and mods.

I can assist you advance an already built forum technology to suit your goal within 7 business days. You can contact me through this email prononso@gmail.com to see some of the forums I have recently built.

@ Seun, greetings Sir!. Please I need to know why you moved from SMF, I'm interested in building a forum as I have carved out a niche on what I want to focus on, what should I watch while using SMF? which one is better? do you mind sharing the name of the one you are currently using? As a starter, if I start with SMF, how easy is migrating to another software in future if the need be? how can I mail or contact you, can you be my mentor please? luciangel@ymail.com, is my mail incase. Thanks in anticipation.

Modified: Please what do you also think about phpBB. Explain please.
