Nigeria open training camp for Egypt showdown Sunday https://africanfootball.com//bp_images/2016/03/B16AVRW0102w.jpg Ifeanyi Matthew of Kano Pillars (right) is expected to be one of the players from the domestic league to open Nigeria's training camp in Abuja on Sunday. by Samm Audu Nigeria will open their training camp for two crucial AFCON 2017 qualifiers against Egypt on Sunday with players from the domestic league, officials have informed. The camp will open in Abuja before it moves to Kaduna, where Nigeria will welcome seven-time champions Egypt on March 25, before they fly out to the reverse clash in Alexandria on March 29 night. This latest proposal for the camp to open earlier than a plan by former Super Eagles coach Sunday Oliseh to get going two weeks to the match in Kaduna is expected to be endorsed by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) technical committee, when they meet in Abuja on Thursday. However, it is left to be seen whether the home-based players called up for the Egypt matches will be excused to feature for their clubs in league matches thereafter. Nigeria are expected to announce a squad made up of players from the home league and foreign pros on Thursday after a deliberation by the technical committee. NFF technical director Shuaibu Amodu met with caretaker coaches Samson Siasia and Salisu Yusuf on Tuesday in Abuja to draw up a squad list. Emmanuel Amuneke, the third member in the Eagles consortium of coaches, was not present as he was back at his base in Spain. http://africanfootball.com/news/615973/Nigeria-open-training-camp-for-Egypt-showdown-Sunday |

Why Rasheed Olabiyi was released by Houston Dynamo https://africanfootball.com//bp_images/2016/03/Samm_23_August_1.jpg Olabiyi (right) during his time at Houston Dynamo The inability of Houston Dynamo to secure green cards for two other foreign players on their roster cost Nigeria midfielder Rasheed Olabiyi his place in the team, AfricanFootball.com can exclusively report. The club tried their best to see that the documents were secured to let them keep former Enyimba and Shooting Stars ace Rasheed Olabiyi, who did well in his first season with the club in 2015, but didn't work out. "The club were under immense pressure from the league office due to the number of foreigners in the team. When we signed Rasheed (Olabiyi), we were in the process and expecting two of our players to receive green cards in order to have space for him on our roster in 2016, which our attorney anticipated would be no issue,” disclosed a source close to the club. “For some reason the process has been delayed. At the end of last week the league said that we have to get roster compliant with foreigners right away. “Unfortunately, Rasheed was the one player on our roster who was effected by these circumstances because his contract was semi-guaranteed. I feel terrible about it because I'm close with him but we had to make this move and waive him. He is currently on MLS waivers and available for free to all MLS teams." Victor Moses returns to Eagles for Egypt showdown https://africanfootball.com//bp_images/2016/03/Victor_Moses_Manchester_Cit.jpg Victor Moses (right) is back to the Super Eagles by Samm Audu Chelsea forward Victor Moses has been recalled by Nigeria for two crunch AFCON 2017 qualifiers against Egypt this month, AfricanFootball.com has again scooped Victor Moses, who is on a season-long loan at West Ham, has not played for his country for more than a year including the eight-month reign of former coach Sunday Oliseh. Injuries have been a major reason behind his absence from the team. Former Eagles coach Oliseh had planned to visit the forward in London before his shock resignation, but even he raised concerns over the fitness of the gifted player. Moses was one of the stars when Nigeria won a third AFCON title in South Africa three years ago. Caretaker coach Siasia could not cap the player in his first spell as Eagles coach because his change of international allegiance did not come through. Siasia has also called up England-based youngsters Kelechi Iheanacho and Alex Iwobi for the AFCON qualifiers against Egypt. http://africanfootball.com/news/616231/Victor-Moses-returns-to-Eagles-for-Egypt-showdown |

Siasia names U23 stars for AFCON qualifiers https://mtnfootball.com/bp_images/2016/03/Samm_6_Dec_2.jpg Nigeria U23 skipper Azubuike Okechukwu Nigeria caretaker coach Samson Siasia has named the country’s U23 skipper Azubuike Okechukwu and Usman Mohammed for this month’s AFCON qualifiers against Egypt. Turkey-based Okechukwu led Nigeria to win the U23 AFCON in Senegal in December with Siasia in charge. He was named MVP of the tournament, which also doubled as a qualifier for the 2016 Rio Olympics. The defensive midfielder has been severally called up to the full international squad by Stephen Keshi. The other U23 star on the list for the Egypt games is midfielder Usman Mohammed, who only recently finalized his move to Portugal. Former FC Taraba skipper Usman featured at the recent CHAN under Sunday Oliseh. http://mtnfootball.com/news/616245/Siasia-names-U23-stars-for-AFCON-qualifiers |

5 Immediate Challenges Facing Siasia As Super Eagles Interim Coach https://i0.wp.com/www.completesportsnigeria.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/image-2.jpeg?w=1712 The melo-drama that saw the exit of Sunday Oliseh as Super Eagles coach is gradually calming down, and it's time to get on with business of mapping out a strategy to beat Egypt home and away later this month. Siasia's appointment on an interim basis comes at a vital moment, as NFF look to salvage Nigeria’s ticket in the 2017 AFCON qualification race and its unlikely he will ring massive changes immediately and risk rocking the boat. Completesportsnigeria.com’s JOHNNY EDWARD highlights five immediate challenges facing the incoming interim Super Eagles coach. 1. REPOSITIONING THE SUPER EAGLES It's time to make the Super Eagles popular again. So much hard work had been done by the former coach, Sunday Oliseh, according to him, wherein the team suffered two defeats in 14 games, scoring 19 goals and conceding just six and climbing up three spots on the FIFA Ranking in his eight months in charge of the team. Oliseh's vulnerability saw him endure a testy relationship with the media, while his authoritarian approach brought his side to the brink of Nations Cup qualification before the double header crucial tie against Egypt. Siasia is an exponent of attacking football and he is aalso a savvy media operator. These traits will be crucial to returning the Super Eagles to the heart's and minds of the public once more. 2. RESOLUTION OF INTERNAL CRISIS Siasia will step into his first training camp with open eyes ready to assess the situation and lay down a mantra to address what he sees as the flaws in the fold he is walking into. Siasia has to heal the alleged deep divisions within the dressing room and quickly. We must see these players play for themselves, as a unit in the subsequent games. 3. MAKING TOUGH DECISIONS Siasia has shown overtime with the various teams he has managed that he's not afraid of making the tough decisions and is more than prepared to usher in or flush out the old guards when necessary. Rash decisions won't be made, but the camp ahead of the visit of Egypt will be a crucial first step in re-shaping the newlook team. The likes of Isaac Success, Brown Ideye and Kingsley Madu, Sone Aluko, Raheem Lawal and John Ogu are in great form for their respective teams and have all been reported to be considered good for the squad against Egypt. 4. GOOD TEAM SELECTION Once Siasia runs the rule over the incumbents, his job, along with Emmanuel Amuneke, is to see who can do a better job than who we have. Will Ogu who has scored thrice in 21 games for Hapoel Beer Sheva good enough to strengthen the Eagles midfield. Can Kelechi Iheanacho sparklein the NO.10 role or will more seasoned defenders like Kenneth Omeruo, Godfrey Oboabona be considered for the game? Can Isaac Success make a fist of international football in Eagles attack or on the wings as he is played at Granada? 5. SUPER EAGLES CAPTAINCY ISSUE Siasia is the man charged with restoring this side, so who will captain the side if Enyeama does return to the fold? Will Musa carry on or handover? Will a new appointment be made or another voting process again like the one held in Belgium in September? Importantly, those decisions will be made with a couple of important objectives. This won't all happen over the next fortnight. But it's the first step. http://www.completesportsnigeria.com/5-immediate-challenges-facing-siasia-super-eagles-interim-coach/ |

Chikatara: My Ultimate Target Is European League After Wydad https://i2.wp.com/www.completesportsnigeria.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/image-5.jpeg?w=1024 By Izuchukwu Okosi: Super Eagles striker, Chisom Chikatara, has exclusively revealed to Completesportsnigeria.com that his move to Moroccan side, Wydad Casablanca, is a stopgap measure before he joins Nigeria's legion of Europe-based stars. Chikatara was unveiled by the Moroccan side this week after a protracted transfer speculation and the former Abia Warriors forward on Thursday bared his mind on the new chapter in his career after signing a three-year contract. "Wydad is a big club in Morocco. I'm humbled by the fact that such a club showed interest in my service," the player affectionately called 'The Kolanut Boy' told Completesportsnigeria.com. "Talks had been on for sometime. However, my target is to play for just one season then move to an European league from here. This is just the stepping stone although I am honoured to be here. If they didn't value me, they wouldn't have come for me. "There's no particular club or league in mind at the moment honestly, but all the same, I want to go to Europe sometime in the near future." Chikatara could make his debut appearance for Wydad Casablanca in the Morrocan Botola Pro League on Saturday against RSB Berkane. Chikatara's new club are currently topping the Morrocan league table with 35 points from 18 matches. Wydad Casablanca, founded in 1937, play its matches at the 67,000 capacity Stade Mohamed V. The club, known as the 'Rouges et Blancs' is coached by Welsh manager, John Toshack. http://www.completesportsnigeria.com/chikatara-ultimate-target-european-league-wydad/ |

Adeniji Vows To Deliver After Levski Sofia Debut https://i0.wp.com/www.completesportsnigeria.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/Adeniyi.jpg?w=544 By Adeboye Amosu: Nigeria international, Tunde Adeniji, is delighted to have finally made his debut for Bulgarian side, Levski Sofia, reports Completesportsnigeria.com. The forward linked up with the Blues from Nigeria Professional Football League side Sunshine Stars Football Club of Akure last month, but his debut was delayed due to the non issuance of his International Transfer Certificate. The former Rising Stars player played his first game for Levski on Wednesday against Montana, featuring in the last 15 minutes of the encounter played at the Georgi Asparuhov Stadium, Sofia which ended in a barren draw. He told Completesportsnigeria.com that he is relieved to have finally played his first official game for the club "I'm happy to be able to get on the pitch for the first time for my new club," he told Completesportsnigeria.com. "It was difficult to sit out our last two games due to the ITC issue, but I'm happy everything has been sorted out now. "I was keen to make it a memorable debut by getting a goal, but it's still okay that we didn't lose the game. "I hope to do better in our next game on Saturday." Second placed Levski who are 10 points behind leaders Ludogorets will play against Locomotiv Plovdiv in their next league fixture on Saturday. http://www.completesportsnigeria.com/adeniji-vows-deliver-levski-sofia-debut/ |

NLban:Well, my opinion is this, Oliseh was not fit to coach the Super Eagles in the first place but due to one reason or the other which i am not ready to disclose now, NFF appointed Oliseh. The thing about Nigerian coaches which i don't like is that they select players based on sentiment and nepotism only. Foreign coach is long over due but if only Siasia and Garba are considered then i will raise no eyewbrow against local coaches. |

forgiveness: I do not think Coach Keshi was as sentimental as people think. People especially the media were short sighted of the brilliant work of Coach Keshi. For instance, look at the reviews coming from CSKA about Aaron Samuel or Raja about Michael Babatunde. It was clear Coach Keshi worked towards a goal but the bullies in the media and NFF kept on painting the man as sentimental and tactically inept. Not every selection pays off immediately but patience will go a long way. Since Coach Keshi's revival of the Super Eagles, we only had Coach Oliseh heading the Super Eagles. I do not think that is enough to write off indigenous coaches. |
| Re: Super Eagles Of Nigeria Thread: 2017 AFCON Qualifiers. by TheGoodJoe(m): 3:55pm On Mar 03, 2016 |
The funny thing about this talk of foreign coaches is that a lot of them failed us. There are times local coaches qualified us for the World Cup and Nations Cup, only for the so called Foreign Coaches to mess it up. My mind goes to Philippe Trousierre getting sacked, Coach Monday Sinclair Changing the losing team into a performing team and qualified us for the World Cup. Bora took over and Denmark lashed us home. |
| Re: Super Eagles Of Nigeria Thread: 2017 AFCON Qualifiers. by forgiveness: 4:04pm On Mar 03, 2016 |
TheGoodJoe:Those two players you mentioned were brought in after Keshi perceived that his defender and protector was already a gunner before the election hence the need to start bringing other players from other part he conspicuouly ignored for a very long long time. However, selection should be based on current form and and sentiment. As at time, can you boldly say those players were the most informed on ground? |
| Re: Super Eagles Of Nigeria Thread: 2017 AFCON Qualifiers. by TheGoodJoe(m): 4:10pm On Mar 03, 2016 |
forgiveness: Coach Keshi received criticism for selecting some home based boys to fight for the AFCON title. Some of them became Heroes of the competition like Oboabona and Mba. He was tagged sentimental for these players. Mba played at the World Cup and did well, so I wonder how Coach Keshi called him because of perceived loss of Presidential backing. Coach Keshi did an impossible job but people were too myopic to see the magnificent work he did. What Coach Oliseh could not bear in five months, Coach Keshi achieved results with it for years. |
| Re: Super Eagles Of Nigeria Thread: 2017 AFCON Qualifiers. by TheGoodJoe(m): 4:15pm On Mar 03, 2016 |
forgiveness: That is why Coach Keshi is a genious. I did not even know the name Aaron Samuel, he saw a star and the boy delivered. I did not know Mba was good, Coach Keshi saw an AFCON hero. I thought Omeruo was too young for the Super Eagles, Coach Keshi saw an AFCON defending hero. So when Coach Keshi is working, people missed his genius work and called it sentiments. |

TheGoodJoe:Stephen Keshi became a victim of his own apparent myth after winning the 2013 AFCON. How dare he take only 4 (FOUR!!!!) 'real' midfielders to a world cup, out of which only 3 were fit?! Gabriel Ruben was still recuperating after several months of being inactive and he got in the squad. He also left out several players who would have been key in giving the team the depth required to compete at the highest level. As a result when Onazi went off injured against France we all saw what happened, it was one way traffic through our midfield, 2 qoals and we were out. Thanks Keshi! http://www.goal.com/en-ng/news/4093/nigerian-football/2014/06/02/4855587/nigeria-announce-23-man-world-cup-squad Along with all the good things he achieved, he would always be remembered as the coach who never really got a grasp of what he was doing. For example, he stumbled upon the idea to play Omeruo as a Centre Back beside Oboabona, only due to Yobo's injury. Then he had the audacity to name the non league player Gabriel Okechukwu as no. 10 for the game against Chad?! wtf and then was too scared to play him, leaving him on the bench for the entire game! Madness I'll stop there not to waste my time listing everything but Keshi had the ruggedity to take on Nigerian football politics and was a decent coach. But he was a poor tactician (as the vast majority of local coaches have shown up to be) and a gambler who eventually hit a long losing run. finish |

wayodude: A lot of people point what they perceived as wrong but fail to see things Coach Keshi did right. How many midfielders did we have to fill the void of the World Cup. We had a decent run and it took France to injure Key players to stop us. He won the Bronze in CHAN. He had only six weeks to prepare for that tourney, lost Iheanacho who was suppose to be the 10 two weeks to the competition. He built that CHAN team around Nacho and we can only imagine what that tourney would have been with Nacho. Even Mourinho and Guardiola makes mistake. Pellegrini overestimated Sterling. Coach Keshi did a lot right despite the NFF bullying. For instance, the sacking of his tactician Coach Sylvanus Okpala. Yet he still marched on delivering results. |

forgiveness: How can the best achieving coach of the Super Eagles since Coach Westerhoff kill Nigerian football? We reached a stage France had to injure key players to win us. We beat the Ivorians and put four past Mali. We played a draw game with Catalonia and played 2-2 with Italy, two days after we qualified for the World Cup. Coach Keshi rekindled the dead flame of the Super Eagles. He was a blessing. |
