18 foreign coaches who have managed the Eagles previously
Posted by timmynaijaon February 19, 2010 at 12:08pm

-Clemens Westerhof (Holland) 1989-1994
Till date he is the most successful coach that has managed the team, winning the 1994 Nations Cup and helping the country qualify for its first World Cup.

The team‘s success under his guidance led to its name
to be changed from the Green Eagles to the Super Eagles in the build-up to the 1992 Nations Cup where Nigeria won bronze. He failed to lead the team in qualifying for Italia‘90 World Cup but he showed his determination to be at the next edition by rebuilding the team.

His first remarkable success was reaching the Nations Cup final in 1990 in Algeria where Nigeria lost 1 – 0 to the host. Rating: 9/10.

-Johannes Bonfrere (Holland) 1995-1996
The Dutchman came tothe country to assist Westerhof but he got his chance to be in charge of a team when in 1991 he was appointed to coach the Super Falcons. His achievement with the women‘s team gave him the opportunity to be in charge of the Olympic football team in 1995 and the following year led the team to win gold at Atlanta‘96 Olympic
Games.

He left the country unceremoniously after he was hired to manage Qatar between 1996 and 1997. When Thijs Libregts was fired in 1999,
Bonfere was hired to manage the Eagles again and he led them to a
second place finish at the 2000 Nations Cup co-hosted by Nigeria and Ghana. Nigeria lost to Cameroun via penalty shootout.

He left the team to coach the national team of the United Arab Emirate in 2001 while his assistant, Shaibu Amodu, took over the team. Rating: 7/10.

-Philippe Troussier (France) 1997
His success with African clubs earned him the nickname ‘White Witch Doctor‘.

He was engaged by Nigeria in 1997 and guided the Super Eagles in qualifying for the 1998 World Cup. He left Nigeria the same year under controversial circ***tances, leaving the NFA to begin a search
for another foreign coach.

He managed three other national teams between 1997 and 2002. Rating: 5/10.

- Bora Milutinovic (Serbia) 1998
The Serbian, popularly referred to as the Miracle Worker, had taken three teams to the World Cup before joining Nigeria in 1998.

He later guided China to the Mundial in 2002. The coach was hired simply for his World Cup experience needed to guide the Eagles through France‘98.

He hardly made any change to the squad he inherited from Troussier and it was not a surprise that the Eagles failed to go beyond the second round of the competition. Rating: 4/10.

- Thijs Libregts (Holland) 1998-1999
He had managed nine other teams – including the Dutch national team – before taking charge of the Eagles in August 1998. He was dismissed by Olympiakos in 1995 and was jobless until he was hired by Nigeria.

Having been dismissed by Olympiakos, Libregts took charge of the Eagles in August 1998 after a disappointing World Cup campaign by Milutinovic.

He was relieved of his job after winning just two games in five matches in the build-up to the 2000 Nations Cup. Rating: 3/10.

- Berti Vogts (Germany) 2007-2008
The German had vowed never to return to football management after dumping the Scotland team but a lucrative deal with Nigeria made him change his mind.

His four-year contract abruptly came to an end 13
months later after he resigned following the poor performance of the Eagles at the 2008 Nations Cup in Ghana. Rating: 3/10.

The last man on the list was Lars Legaback who was engaged in 2010 to lead us in South Africa where we ended up disgracing Africa.

Forgiveness you can now see the long list of foreign Coaches who were engage to manage our football with little to show for it.

Nah bro, forget Wikipedia. I'm almost certain Troussier qualified the team for the World Cup in 98 BEFORE getting fired. I think Sinclair was part of his back room staff.

Coach Sinclair was part of his back room staff. When he took over, there was transformation in the team. It is a long time, 1997 is not today but Coach Sinclair took over. There is a big mix up there but I still remember moments like the Ohenhen substitution and the Oruma goal that he took off the shirt and ran to the crowd.

That was a World Cup qualifying Celebration.

My own is just to say Monday Who?

That is a Legend. You need to watch this man analyse a match. So entertaining. I hope the Football body of Nigeria remembers the man. He is always ready to serve the Nation.

Nigeria: Give Siasia Two Years to Operate, Says Sinclair
24 FEBRUARY 2011
Daily Trust (Abuja)

Former Sharks of Port-Harcourt Sweat Merchant, Mr. Monday Sinclair yesterday called on the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and football lovers in the country to give Super Eagles handler Samson Siasia uninterrupted two years period to do the job of putting together a credible squad for the country.

Sinclair, who made the call in a chat with sports reporters at the NFF Glass House secretariat in Abuja, explained that for any coach to package a winning team, he needs a period not below two years to work.

9 APRIL 2004

By Onochie Anibeze
We were in Tunisia watching the last Nations Cup when Mike Emenalo spoke eloquently about the impact Samson Siasia has made as a youth coach in the United States of America.

It may be necessary to note here that Mike Emenalo, Ben Iroha and Siasia have all had stints as youth coaches in USA where they are now based. But Emenalo was quick to add that while he ventured into management of players as a FIFA licensed agent, Siasia continued coaching youths and within three years was able to put together one of the best youth teams in the whole of America.

So sad a history, a sad racall indeed. I believe we have competent indginous coaches who can handle the National Team, but my problem is the politics they play in the Glass House. From the roll call of foreign coaches, it can be seen that the problem is not with coaching but with Board Room politics. Amodu has been sidelined after the nations cup in Angola, but the problem with Nigeria football is far from over. Unless and until the politicians in the glass house are discarded, Nigeria football will continue to nose-dive. Even an Angel cannot make any positive impact as coach with the present crop of football administrators in the country.

@bolded... Chaiii.... All because of an entropy-inspired body called the NFF/NFA.

The statement isn't so far from the truth because though it was uttered about 6years ago under another set of NFF officials, the same could still be said today.

Honestly, the coaches that have brought Nigeria glory at all levels in both male and female soccer REALLY DID SO AGAINST MIGHTY ODDS.

Siasia: We’ll Qualify For AFCON, Make Pinnick Forget Foreign Coach

By Richard Jideaka, Abuja:
Undaunted by the recent declaration by the President of Nigeria Football Federation Amaju Pinnick that the body will employ a foreign coach, the interim head coach of the Super Eagles Samson Siasia stated that he and his colleagues in the technical crew will make Pinnick change his mind after securing qualification for the Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon.

Siasia told Compl etesportnigeria.com exclusively that he is not perturbed by Pinnick’s loss of confidence in Nigerian coaches with the statement credited to him that he would get a foreign coach for the team, adding that he and his colleagues have taken it as a challenge and will like to show Pinnick that there are quality and good coaches in Nigeria who are better than these foreign coaches he is angling for.

“What he said about Sunday Oliseh being the last Nigerian coach for Super Eagles doesn’t bother us, in short we in the technical crew have taken it as a challenge and we are very hopeful that we shall beat Egypt to the group ticket,” Siasia told Comple tesportsnigeria.com. “It is a big task but we are capable of getting results that will convince him that we are equal to the task.

“If we beat Egypt home and away and go ahead to pick the ticket to AFCON in Gabon, why should we not lead the team to Gabon? All we wanted was to give us a chance and now that we have it, we must utilize it to restore the dignity of Nigerian coaches that has been battered in recent years by indigenous coaches.”

He said that he has coaches on his staff who have been able to prove themselves at both local and international levels and together they are working tirelessly to ensure that Nigeria qualify for AFCON by beating Egypt who are their major opponents in Group G.

Siasia who described himself as the new sheriff in town called for total support and prayers from Nigerians to be able to get the desired results and beat other teams in the group to the AFCON ticket.

By Johnny Edward:
SC Olhanense of Portugal defender, Stanley Amuzie, is delighted to have made Nigeria’s squad for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying double-header against the Pharaohs of Egypt later this month, Comple tesportsnigeria.com can report.‎

“My long-term vision was to get into the senior team with Nigeria and do myself proud at club level," Amuzie further told Comple tesportsnigeria.com.

Amuzie who was a regular player in the Olympic team until he suffered a anterior cruciate ligament last year during a qualifier against Zambia said he was fully fit and raring to go.

Ighalo Wary Of Egypt’s Threat; Picks Aguero, Zouma As His Strongest Opponents

By Johnny Edward:
Super Eagles striker Odion Ighalo is wary of Nigeria’s 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying double-take against the Pharaohs of Egypt later this month, Comple tesportsnigeria.com reports.

Ighalo who has failed to score in his last five games for the Hornets revealed that the three time African Nations Cup winners will be tackling the seven time winners of the competition who have missed the last three editions with total confidence.

"It's going to be a tough game, Egypt is a big side but we'll go there with a lot of confidence," Ighalo told Brila FM live showon Thursday.

In his response to questions from his followers on Twitter during the radio programme Ighalo wished he could play along with Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo and also picked David De De Gea as the best goalkeeper in the English Premier League.

Ighalo came up against the Spaniard on three occasions in his club, Watford's 1-0 loss to Manchester United and failed to beat the 24 year old shot-stopper.

"@D_DeGea must be the best goalie right now in the #EPL. On 3 occasions yesterday we came up 1-on-1," Ighalo remarked.‎

He also picked his Manchester City forward Sergio Aguero as the best forward in the EPL and the duo of Laurent Koscielny and Chelsea's Kurt Zouma as the best defenders whom he has faced since making his debut in the league.

"Aguero is the best player in the EPL his vision and instinct on the ball is great. Don't give him half-a-chance.'

"Koscielny is not physical, but very technical. Kurt Zouma is another one, both are the toughest I have played against.'

The 26 year old admitted Cameroonian legend Samuel Eto is his role model amongst other former Nigerian football stars.

"My role model in Africa is@setoo9. I follow and have adored ormer@NGSuperEaglesstars."

The former Udinese and Granada star believes the quartet of Leicester City, Tottenham Hotspurs, Manchester City and Arsenal stand equal chance of winning the keenly contested title in England.

"I think the four teams at the top stand equal chances of picking the EPL title."

Ighalo however urged the Federal government of Nigeria to refurbish the National Stadium in Lagos but reveals the Abuja national stadium is one he loves to play in.

'The national stadium in Abuja and I love the National Stadium in Lagos. It will be nice if they can refurbish it.'

Ighalo stated further during the radio show, "I think the four teams at the top stand equal chances of picking the EPL title."

'Best Wishes to my mother and all other mothers in Africa. May God bless their labour and its fruits?"

Siasia is right to drop Leon Balogun. He's in-form but in the German League with grade A pitches and cool weather. Do you think Leon can perform excellently on the Kaduna Pitch with that kind of weather?!
I think Leon Balogun grown up in Germany, hence he's not used to the African weather! He may flop if he's invited for the Matches!
As for Issac Success, is he gonna bench either of Moses, Musa or Simon?! Ighalo is definitely gonna top-strike and might be supported by either Aaron or Kelechi; then what's the essence of inviting him just to sit on the Bench?!
My thought though!

Logic, bro!

Let's use your train of thought for others invited for the matches.

Alex Iwobi grew up in England, hence he's not used to the African weather! He may flop if he's invited for the Matches! Do you think Iwobi can perform excellently on the Kaduna Pitch with that kind of weather?!
So if Iwobi was invited, your excuse for Leon holds no water. And for your informaation, Leon has played many times on Nigerian soil, including the Kaduna field, and he has not disappointed.

Ighalo is definitely gonna top-strike and might be supported by either Aaron or Kelechi; then what's the essence of inviting Fanendo Adi just to sit on the Bench?!
What does Adi have that Success does not have more. Adi has been resting for the past 2 months without playing games. Success plays every week. He even scored in the Spanish league yesterday.

We are talking about inviting our best legs across the world, and you are giving excuses for taking below par players above players playing against the best in the world. SMH

What's Chibuzor Okonkwo doing amongst the home based stars? Heard he is not even amongst the top 3 RB in the Nigerian league.

Mowiz mentioned on twitter that Siasia is the most corrupt coach in Nigeria based on his experience as a journalist. For me, I will still reserve my verdict but this selection does not impress me.

Kayode

Austria Wien striker Olanrewaju Kayode has said his target is to win the Austria Bundesliga title and finish as top scorer.

The former Maccabi Netanya of Israel striker scored his 10th goal of the season on Wednesday to help his team thrash hosts Admiral 3-0.

He scored in the 55th minute with a header to give Austria Wien a 2-0 lead.

"My set goal with the team is to win the league title, every team is striving hard to achieve that same goal. We have 11 games to go,” he declared.

"On a personal note, winning the top scorers’ award will be great, it's a target as well."

Austria Wien are third on the league table with 42 points in 25 games. They are seven points behind leaders Rapid Wien.

The former Nigerian youth international is the third leading scorer in the league with 10 goals, six goals behind leading scorer Jonatan Soriano of Salzburg.

Siasia wants to win home and away against Egypt

by Samm Audu

Nigeria caretaker coach Samson Siasia has said his target is to beat Egypt both home and away in crucial AFCON qualifiers later this month to guarantee the country’s qualification to the final tournament in Gabon.

“I have absolute faith in the players. Nigeria is blessed with so many talented footballers across the world and I know that those we are inviting for this match will give everything for the six points in both matches,” said Siasia after he released a 42-man squad for the AFCON qualifiers.

“Personally, I will give everything that I have to offer for us to win both matches.”

He added: “I want to passionately appeal to Nigerians, everybody, to show belief in the team and give us total support.

“It will not be easy, but if we stick together and present a united force to fight this battle, I believe we will triumph.”

The former Nigeria striker, who was in the same position between December 2010 and October 2011, assured that only the best players who “showed ability to run and decimate the opposition” will be given opportunity in both matches.

The 22 home-based players are expected to hit camp at the Bolton White Apartments, Abuja on Sunday, March 6, before the overseas-based pros arrive as from Sunday, March 20.

Nigeria league match - 3SC vs Lobi Stars

by Samm Audu

Coach Samson Siasia has said he wants Nigeria league midweek matches suspended for him to work fully with the home-based players from Monday.

Siasia has called up 22 players from the domestic league for a training camp in Abuja beginning on Monday ahead of AFCON qualifiers against Egypt later this month.

“I have spoken with the federation and I would want midweek league matches suspended, that will help with my preparation,” Siasia told reporters at a press briefing.

The selected players from this training camp will move to Kaduna on March 21 to be joined by the foreign pros.

Siasia also raised concerns over the sharply different weather conditions the country’s Europe-based stars will battle when they fly in the AFCON qualifiers.

“It’s cold in Europe and it will be hot in Kaduna, so I am very concerned about this,” he admitted.

Fanen Adi

by Samm Audu

New Eagles invitee Fanendo Adi has said Nigeria do not have any reason to be intimidated by seven-time African champions Egypt when they clash in AFCON 2017 qualifiers later this month.

Nigeria and Egypt will square up home and away from March 25 as the qualifying tournament for AFCON 2017 gathers steam.

Portland Timbers forward Adi has said despite the fluctuating fortunes of the Super Eagles, Nigeria have every reason to be confident of victory against the Pharaohs.

“The fact that Nigeria have been up and down does not mean we should be scared of Egypt,” he insisted.

“If we come together and play for the team, we will win.”

This is the first-ever Eagles call-up for the 25-year-old Adi, who has also played in Slovakia, Ukraine and Denmark.

He said he is excited with the chance and hopes to bring value to the three-time African champions.

“The opportunity has come and I’m very excited,” said Adi, who further said because of the time difference between Nigeria and the United States of America he was woken up from sleep by his brother-in-law in Nigeria to be informed he has been invited by the Eagles.

“I want to contribute to the team. I’m a team player, I can use my size (he is 6 feet 5 inches), I’m a target forward. I will do my best for the team.”

Chelsea Midfielder Mikel Obi

by Samm Audu

Chelsea star Mikel Obi has called up Nigeria caretaker coach Samson Siasia to pledge his total support ahead of all-important AFCON qualifiers against Egypt later this month.

A top source close to Siasia informed AfricanFootball.com that Mikel has already phoned the coach to vow his total support in the wake of the resignation of Sunday Oliseh.

“Mikel called Siasia and pledged his full support,” disclosed the source.

The 28-year-old Chelsea midfielder was sensationally dropped to the bench by Oliseh when Nigeria beat Swaziland 2-0 in a 2018 World Cup qualifier last year.

As Eagles vice-captain, he was widely expected to be named Eagles coach by Oliseh after Vincent Enyeama’s dramatic exit from the Super Eagles, but in the end Ahmed Musa was handed the captain’s armband.

Mikel’s relationship with Siasia has blown hot and cold.

He was one of the stars when Siasia led the country to reach the final of the 2005 FIFA U20 World Cup in the Netherlands.

However, the coach overlooked him for the 2008 Beijing Olympics after he stayed away from the qualifying tournament for the summer games.

Fanendo Adi goes for goal for Portland Timbers in the MLS

Super Eagles new invitee Fenando Adi has expressed his willingness to score more than the 19 goals he scored last season as the Major League Soccer (MLS) 2016 season kicks off this weekend.

“I don't have goal targets,” said the big striker of champions Portland Timbers.

“Hopefully, I can beat the [numbers] I had last year. I'm going to work hard...I'm just going to try and score and win for the team.”

“I'm preparing very hard for it and working really hard,” he said of what he hopes will be a very successful 2016 season. “Of course, I always try to use my body and try to win for the team. That's very important.

“I just need to focus on the things I can do and that's just to use my body well, play well, do what I have to do to help the team win.”

Adi, 25, was Thursday handed his first Eagles call-up by caretaker coach Samson Siasia for two AFCON qualifiers against Egypt later this month.

Nigeria: Why Enyeama Is Not On My List - Siasia

By Joshua Odeyemi

Super Eagles head coach, Samson Siasia has said he omitted former team captain Vincent Enyeama from his 42-man list to prosecute the double header Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Egypt because the Lille of France star was not ready to return to the fold.

Siasia disclosed this on Thursday in Abuja while responding to questions from journalists immediately he released the list of players invited to camp ahead of the two matches on 25th and 29th March, 2016.

"I called Enyeama a couple of days ago when they made us to take over these two games [against Egypt] and I told him that I wanted him to come back, that I need him to be a part of this team.

"He told me about what happened to him [during the reign of Sunday Oliseh as coach], how he was disgraced. He said he wanted to play but that he is not ready emotionally right now. I told him that he should let me know whenever he wants to play."

Siasia noted that he had to let shot stopper be for now because he doesn't need a player who is emotionally broken in the team, adding that: "but I still keep the doors wide open for him if he decides to come back because we need guys like him for this game."

Enyeama decided to retire from the national team after being stripped of the captaincy band last October by the then Head coach Sunday Oliseh.

The coach however, said he was not in contact with West ham United striker Emmanuel Emenike who also announced his retirement immediately Enyeama left the team.

"I have not spoken to him yet. I read in the papers where he said he is not playing. If he is not playing, why should I call him? We want guys that are ready to play; we don't want to beg anybody to play for this country."

Coach Samson Siasia has invited 22 home –based professionals and 20 overseas –based players for Nigeria’s 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying double-header against the Pharaohs of Egypt this month. Siasia, who was named last week as Super Eagles’ Caretaker Coach, passionately appealed to all Nigerians, including the sporting media, to rally round the team and show belief as the Eagles host the Egyptians in Kaduna on Friday, March 25 and play away in Alexandria on Tuesday, March 29.

The 22 home –boys are expected to hit camp at the Bolton White Apartments, Abuja on Sunday, March 6 before the overseas –based boys arrive as from Sunday, March 20. “I want to passionately appeal to Nigerians, everybody, to show belief in the team and give us total support. It will not be easy, but if we stick together and present a united force to fight this battle, I believe we will triumph.

“I have absolute faith in the players. Nigeria is blessed with so many talented footballers across the world and I know that those we are inviting for this match will give everything for the six points in both matches. Personally, I will give everything that I have to offer for us to win both matches.

” The former Nigeria captain, who was in the same position between December 2010 and October 2011, assured that only the best players who “showed ability to run and decimate the opposition” will be given opportunity in both matches.

Regulars Ikechukwu Ezenwa, Olufemi Thomas, Kalu Orji Okogbue, Austin Oboroakpo, Chima Akas, Ezekiel Bassey and Chisom Chikatara are in the home based mix, while Carl Ikeme, Efe Ambrose, Elderson Echiejile, Godfrey Oboabona, Kenneth Omeruo, John Mikel Obi, Ogenyi Onazi, Ahmed Musa, Victor Moses, Odion Ighalo, Moses Simon and Fanendo Adi are among the overseas –based legion.

Eagles vow to beat Pharaohs in Kaduna

BRAZIL, Campinas : Nigeria’s team members jog during a training session in Campinas, Sao Paulo, on June 18, 2014, during the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

By Jude Opara SUPER Eagles interim coach, Samson Siasia, yesterday revealed that he has re ceived full assurance from the key players of the Super Eagles of their readiness to ensure that the Pharaoh’s of Egypt are beaten convincingly when they clash on March 25 at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna. Siasia, while unveiling the list of 42 players invited to camp ahead of the double header AFCON 2017 qualifying match, noted that the players assurances have spurred him to more action, insisting that nothing would stop the Super Eagles from defeating the Egyptians in Kaduna.

He noted that with such assurances from players like John Obi Mikel, Victor Moses, Odion Ighalo and Kelechi Iheanacho, the technical crew is full of confidence that the Egyptians will be beaten very well in Kaduna.

The former Super Eagles striker also disclosed that the NFF has helped him to acquire about six video tapes of the past games of the Pharaohs, which he is currently studying, adding that the tapes would guide him in mapping out his strategies to beat them in Kaduna.

One good thing here is that I have received the full backing of the players. I spoke with most of them and they have assured me of their readiness to die on the pitch to ensure that they beat Egypt in Kaduna. I and the technical director have agreed that these are the list of players we would use to prosecute the two games.”

I carefully selected them and I want to make sure that I know them very well. It is going to take me only three days to train the players before we play Egypt in Kaduna, so there is no much time.

“I have picked about six video tapes of the Egyptians, we have to watch them carefully and look at their pattern of play and we translate that on how will play them. That is the only way we can overcome them.

I have found out that about six of their players played with us in Senegal. We are playing at home and we must make sure that we win at home, no matter what it takes us. We have spoken to the likes of Mikel, Moses, Odion, Iheanacho and others; they are all ready to play.

They told me “coach we are coming to do it and play for you”, which is a good assurance, so we want to go out there with a positive mind to make sure that we put smiles on the faces of Nigerians. I am going to give over a 100% of my time to make sure that we win those two games. I am full of confidence, as long as the boys play to instruction, we do not have anything to worry about”, he assured.

Oliseh, NFF Humiliated me – Vincent Enyeama

https://www.thebreakingtimes.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/vincent-enyeama.jpg
Vincent Enyeama

Super Eagles interim coach, Samson Siasia has not hidden his strong wish to have former team captain, Vincent Enyeama, back in the national team, especially at this period that the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is looking to ensure that absolute peace returns to the ranks of the Super Eagles ahead of the back-to-back AFCON crackers against the Pharaohs of Egypt.

The NFF has barely recovered from the surprise resignation of former Eagles coach, Sunday Oliseh, with less than one month to the first game against Egypt, billed for March 25 in Kaduna.

Siasia yesterday explained steps he had taken to convince both Enyeama and Emmanuel Emenike, who were frustrated out of the team by former coach Oiliseh to return to the national team.

He said that the players’ wealth of experience is what the Super Eagles would need to win the Pharaohs.

However, Siasia explained that though Enyeama would want to return to the Super Eagles, he requested to be left out for now, stressing that he is still emotionally down over the treatment that was meted out to him by the NFF and former coach Oliseh while the team was in Belgium for some friendly matches.

“I called Enyeama a couple of days ago, when they asked us to come and handle these two games, I told him how I needed him for the games and I wanted him to come back and be a part of this team. He explained to me how he was treated by the NFF and Oliseh. He explained how he drove from Lille to Belgium to meet the coach after his mum’s burial and was totally embarrassed with harsh words and taking the captain’s band away from him.

“He told me he would have wanted to play for me, but emotionally he is still down and has not gotten over that treatment from the former coach.

“I thanked him for his time and noted that the door is still open for him to be part of the Super Eagles. Whenever he overcomes his feelings, he should let me know.

“These matches are too important for us and we do not want to use those whose emotions are already broken. More guys are ready to play. Though we know that what happened to him was not a good thing, we cannot force him since he has made it clear that he cannot play for Nigeria right now. But we still keep the doors open for him any time he would want to come back because we need people like him, especially at this period, but we cannot force him.

Chelsea’s Mikel Obi, Hapoel Be’er Sheva’s John Ogu and Granada’s Isaac Success have been nominated for the February Complete Sports Player of the Month.

To vote, please write your favourite player’s name in the Leave A Reply field below the players’ s profiles. Voting is open until 4pm on Monday.

Profiles written by James Agberebi:

MIKEL OBI (CHELSEA, ENGLAND)

Since the appointment of Guus Hiddink, Mikel Obi has emerged as a reborn player for Chelsea.

Formerly a frequent bench warmer during the reign of former Blues boss Jose Mourinho, who prefered Nemanja Matic instead, things look to have changed for the better for Mikel since the change of managers.

Mikel has become the mainstay of the Chelsea midfield and he was surely one of their best players in February.

On Wednesday, 3 February, Chelsea were guests to Watford City in a Premier League clash at Vicarage Road. The Blues held their hosts to a 0-0 draw, with Mikel posting a solid display while featuring throughout the encounter.

Four days later, Chelsea welcomed Manchester United to Stamford Bridge with Mikel playing 90 minutes. The game eventually ended 1-1, with Jesse Lingard and Diego Costa getting on the score sheet.

Then in the UEFA Champions League tie against PSG, which took place on Tuesday, 16 February, Mikel scored a vital away goal as Chelsea lost 2-1, their first loss since Guus Hiddink took over. It was Mikel’s second Champions League goal ever.

In an FA Cup game against a youthful Manchester City side which was held on Sunday, 21 February, Mikel was in action for the Blues who won 5-1. He later made way for Nemanja Matic with eight minutes remaining.

And on Saturday 27 February, Mikel was also in action for Chelsea, who came back from a goal down to beat Southampton 2-1 at St. Mary’s in the league.

SUCCESS ISAAC (GRANADA, SPAIN)

Although Granada are not sitting pretty in the La Liga table (19th), Success Isaac is one player who has been one of the bright spots for the relegation threatened side.

A tireless, hard working forward and a regular, Isaac, who has four goals in 24 appearances, has a big part to play if Granada are to escape the drop to the Segunda division.

Isaac was in action for Granada in their home league game against Real Madrid on Sunday, 2 February. Granada went on to lose 2-1 but Isaac featured for 90 minutes in the encounter.

On Sunday 14 February in a La Liga game, Granada went away to face Real Sociedad but lost 3-0. Isaac maintained his place in the team, as he played for 90 minutes.

In a home clash against struggling Valencia on 21 February, Isaac was in action for 90 minutes but couldn’t prevent his side from losing 2-1. He also got yellow-carded in the game.

Against Deportivo La Coruna, Isaac was on from the beginning as he helped his side to a 1-0 away win. He later went off in the 92nd minute for Lomban.

The young Nigerian often gets Granada fans off their seats whenever he is on the ball running at opponents and creating scoring chances. He was one of Granada’s top players in February.

JOHN OGU (HAPOEL BE’ER SHEVA, ISRAEL)

John Ogu has been instrumental in Hapoel Be’er Sheva’s rise to the top of the Israeli league table.

The big central midfielder has contributed in no small measure in the club’s brilliant run of form, which has taken them five points clear ahead of Maccabi Tel Aviv.

Not known for his goal-scoring prowess (three goals in 23 games this season), the former Academica player’s influence in his current side can never be underestimated. And it will be hoped that he maintains his good form as they continue the quest to clinch the league title.

Ogu was on target in Hapoel Beer Sheva’s 2-0 home win against Maccabi Netanya on Saturday, 6 February. He scored on 67 minutes to secure the win for his side.

On Saturday 13 February, Ogu helped his side beat Hapoel Haifa 2-1 away from home. He was on throughout the game.

Against Bnei Yehuda at home on Monday, 22 February, Be’er Sheva won 2-0, with Ogu featuring for 90 minutes against the visitors.

Ogu scored his second goal in February in a 2-1 away win against Hapoel Kfar Saba. Ogu who played for 90 minutes, netted the winner to hand his team all the three points.

Flores: How Ighalo Can End Goal Drought

https://d1bez7r3o7wd77.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/IMG_20160303_093013.jpg
Watford manager Quique Sanchez Flores has advised Odion Ighalo not to put himself under pressure as the Nigeria striker seeks to end his goal drought.

Ighalo failed to add to his 14 Premier League goals as Watford lost 1-0 to Manchester United at Old Trafford on Wednesday night.

He has only managed to score two goals in his last 12 matches in all competitions.

Flores assured that the club will do everything possible to support Ighalo.

"He's not scoring so we need to support him a lot," Flores told the Watford Observer. "Of course, the moment he scores it becomes easier for the team.

"My work with Ighalo now is to try and take away pressure. He has put pressure on himself. It's like he feels he has to score. That isn't the best way to recreate a good feeling.

"It's a mistake to put pressure on himself. He needs to work separate from the feelings of scoring with the feelings of playing with freedom in the team."

Flores added: "Ighalo is a little bit frustrated. Strikers need goals to feel good. You can feel he is trying but sometimes he makes bad decisions. I support him more than ever."

Okonkwo, Obaroakpo Keen To Face Egypt After Eagles Call-Ups

https://i0.wp.com/www.completesportsnigeria.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/obaroakpo.jpeg?w=655
By Izuchukwu Okosi:

Chibuzor Okonkwo and Austin Obaroakpo have expressed their appreciation to interim Super Eagles coach Samson Siasia over their invitations to camp ahead of Nigeria's 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Egypt, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

FC IfeanyiUbah defender Okonkwo was one of the players who was in Nigeria's U-23 side that won silver in the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, a team coached by Siasia.

Okonkwo had always wished to be a key figure in the Super Eagles but has seen successive coaches shun him.

The invitation to the Eagles camp was one that apparently excited the right-back and he hopes to impress in camp.

"The matches against Egypt will be massive," he said. "I was not so lucky to play previously although injuries a couple of times didn't help.

"This time, I'll do my best in camp and hope to be involved. Siasia is a coach that believes in my ability and I want to say a big thank you to him."

Abia Warriors defender Obaroakpo is also thankful that despite a disappointing showing by the home-based Eagles at the 2016 Africa Nations Championship in Rwanda, a chance to stake his claim in the Eagles backline has presented itself.

"The invitation was indeed good news. I don't know if I will play or not. Surely it will be hard, but not impossible, to compete with the likes of Godfrey Obobabona and Kenneth Omeruo.

"I'm keen to play for the national team again after the disappointment of CHAN. If I get to play in any of the games, I'll be grateful," Obaroakpo stated.

The home-based Eagles players will be in camp before the overseas-based players join them later.
The first leg of the double header holds on Friday, March 25 at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna.

CSKA Moscow Willing To Sell Ahmed Musa To English Teams For 24 Million Euros In

https://www.allnigeriasoccer.com/football_pics/16811Musa1.jpg
Director General of CSKA Moscow Roman Babayev has reiterated that the club will listen to offers for Ahmed Musa when the transfer market reopens, amid interest for the striker from teams in the English Premier League.

The Muscovites turned down at least two bids from Premiership leading Leicester City in the winter transfer market because they were not prepared to sell the Super Eagles skipper when they are challenging for the title in the ongoing season.

“It is not right to keep the player when he has offers from the Premier League for the right price,” said Babayev to championat.com.

“Several English clubs are actively interested in Musa. And not just English. Footballer faithfully served CSKA and do not let him go to the best league of the world from our side would be incorrect.”

Ahmed Musa and his intermediary, Tony Harris, did not feel over resentful over the decision of CSKA Moscow in the January transfer window and will be hoping to continue discussions with interested teams in three months time.

The capital team will accept bids in the region of 24 million euros for the Nigeria national-teamer.

Injured Victor Moses Will Be Fit For Egypt Crackers, West Ham Reveal

https://www.allnigeriasoccer.com/football_pics/8232Moses.jpg
Chelsea loanee Victor Moses is not in danger of missing the eagerly anticipated African Cup of Nations qualifiers against Egypt in three weeks time.

The Nigeria international picked up a training ground injury just before West Ham’s Premier League clash against Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday and there had been fears that the winger suffered a relapse of a hamstring injury.

But West Ham boss Slaven Bilic has allayed those fears at a press conference on Friday, revealing that Moses will be in tip-top condition in seven days time.

“Victor Moses and Enner Valencia should be back for the cup game against United and Winston Reid and Joey O’Brien could make it too,” said Bilic.

The 25-year-old Victor Moses has not played for the Super Eagles since June 30,2014, when he lasted 89 minutes on the pitch in the World Cup second round clash with France.
